| I'll say one thing that city deserve a huge amount of credit for - at least they took the damn thing seriously. The likes of Spurs, Portsmouth and Villa have been an absolute disgrace in the UEFA cup this season, essentially deciding they couldn't be bothered to play in it after a certain point.
It baffles me how clubs (players and managers) bang on and on about how Europe is a target and how much it would mean to them only to throw the towel in when they decide they can't be d. city played 18 games in that competition and gave it all to try and win it, which is more than can be send for the rest of the English teams.

Aye, I'm made up Villa and their fidgety imp manager won't make 4th this season. Feel a bit sorry for the fans though and it's about time clubs realised that most fans would relish a UEFA Cup final more than qualifying for the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
It's all right them saying it's about the money in the Champions League because they aint gonna get any of that anyway.

| I have the spare two minutes in my preparations to rip Ranieri a new butthole tomorrow night. I have questions for the experts on here....
Do you fancy the Fachtman to win the Premier League now the Potato knock him out of Europe?
Can the Potato still win the league?
Can Mr Alex win all 5?
Any chance the Voyeur will be champion of Europe?
Do it.

Spot on is that. For me, teams like Spurs, Portsmouth & Villa have no ambition. None at all. If they did they'd have taken the UEFA cup seriously. Like LFC said. They get knocked out of the UEFA cup and don't seem bothered because they want to consentrate on qualifiying for next seasons! Haha. Crazy.

| Very proud of City's performance last night. Great effort. Several members of the team were carrying knocks and we were missing a number of players. Vincent Kompany was a moster last night. He is playing with a leg injury and a toe problem. He has apparently had no feeling in his left foot during games (because of an injection) for nearly three months and he hasn't trained since March. I still think he is a defender rather than a midfielder but on some occasions he is a big, big player for us in the middle of the park. A real warrior.
Shame that amount of effort by the team has rarely been seen this season, in particular, away from home.

Twice in a season now.
IIRC tickets were a £5er last night, I seem to remember getting given a load of flyers at Uni just before Easter.

There's only three English teams (off the top of my head) that have made any effort in the UEFA Cup in recent seasons.
City, 'Boro and Liverpool. I can't remember how Millwall did after they qualified a few years ago. It's quite embarrassing really, because like you say Villa, Spurs and Everton [iet al[/i haven't got a chance of getting into the CL in the forseeable future.

Guaranteed if you have an automated scheme charging all season ticket holders. But then it appears that a lot of United fans like to bend over and take it dry

Glazer would still find a reason to increase ticket prices.

| Do now
In the 2004/05 UEFA Cup, Millwall lost 4–2 on aggregate in the first round proper, to Hungarian Champions Ferencváros, with Wise scoring both Millwall goals.
Millwall put up a brave fight in both games, but the Hungarian champions were too strong. Surprisingly, whilst Millwall were seeded, Ferencvaros were not. Millwall could have had an easier draw, against Chechnyan minnows Terek Grozny. If Millwall had beaten them, then they would have made it into the group stage of the competition, where they would have faced some of Europe's elite, including teams such as Lazio and Schalke.

I think the target of gaining a spot in the EUFA Cup is just used by managers as a motivational tool. Managers want their teams to finish as high in the league as possible, partly because it increases their job security but also because they want their team to make progress year on year. The idea of actually having to compete in the UEFA cup probably terrifies them.
The clubs that finish in the UEFA cup spots generally have some good players but not sufficient strength in depth to sustain a challenge for a CL place. Hence they dont have the resources to sustain a decent Premiership campaign and play the additional 15-19 games required to win the UEFA Cup.
I'm hoping, without any great expectation, that City finish the season with a decent run. But I'm also hoping that they finish one place short of a Europa Cup place.

| I find it funny that clubs who have won **** all for 30 years turn their noses up at competitions. IMO they deserve to go another 30 years without winning anything until they get a clue. It's the same with clubs like Coppell's Reading. He turned his nose up at the FA Cup and League Cup because he wanted to focus on PL survival and got relegated anyway - good!
I think if Citeh do aspire to be among the top PL teams they need to pay their dues in the UEFA Cup first. If they did miss out on the UEFA and happened to qualify for the CL I think they'd suffer when they were in the CL.

Exactly right on that you have got to try and win every competition you can whilst your in them because trophies are far more important than money IMO

Everton can beat United on Sunday.
But not on the stupid playground game of we beat you, you beat them, so we can beat them.
