TBH mate, the way the club have supported Shields through the whole saga - some of which was blatently wrong - has brought it to the fore. A football club getting involved in a legal case is going to stir some emotions from opposing fans.

The main reason that Jack Straw has released Shields is that Shields' family told him that Sankey confessed to them right when the trial started in Bulgaria. The Bulgarians wouldn't accept such a bull5hit confession, that's the "new evidence" whish Straw is acting upon.

It's just a good job that accused criminals don't have families willing to back them up, otherwise there'd never be any convictions in this country.

Whether Shields is innocent or not I don't know. I do know that Jack Straw's explnation of his decision is pathetically weak though.

No idea, but according to Jack Straw the police uncovered more evidence but wont say. Of course, Jack Straw could be lying, which im sure LGJM will claim is correct.

I don't see the resoning behind Straw not coming out with this new evidence. On the face of it, it seems that public pressure has got Shields released. Straw should now come out and prove that is not the case. The evidence from Bulgaria (which we we know about) points to a guilty verdict being the correct one.

The new evidence is what straw had 'been coming out with' all day, if you bothered to look. He said since July it has been brought to his attention that two members of the Shields family and others went to Sankey's house and he confessed to the offence. In light of this Straw has granted a pardon.

Whether Shields is guilty or not, him being pardoned because of the reason being given is absolutely laughable.

My brother is in jail, if I liked him and didn't want him to stay there I guess I could pop round to someone's house, secure a confession and get him released?
