JOHN Hopoate retained his Australian heavyweight title without breaking into a sweat - then was told by his rival he had more power than former world champion Mike Tyson.

Hopoate won a unanimous points decision (99-90, 99-91, 97-94) against a sloppy and ragged Bob Mirovic last night in Canberra to get his professional career back on track.

And the words from Mirovic, who at 43 is now almost certain to finally walk away from the sport, would have been comforting.

"Hoppa is as strong as a bloody ox. I spent six weeks sparring Mike Tyson in America and I deadset believe John is stronger than Tyson," a bruised and battered Mirovic told One HD. "Tyson in his day may have been different, but John is very powerful and strong.

"The first time we fought I wasn't prepared like I should have been. But tonight there were no excuses."
