Also Conlon has been shipped off to Grimsby after his bust up with Clarke. He wasn't the best player but always seemed to give his all.'"
...and signed Paul Mullin in his place. We could do a lot worse to be honest. Good riddance to Conlon IMO. He's been given a big chance by this club and he's doing his best to throw it away.
Makes a bit of a mockery of the season ticket campaign though

| Good riddance to Conlon, only put any effort in when his contract was up for renewal, and his recent behaviour has, by all accounts, been appalling.
The oaf has showed a complete lack of respect for the club (and in particular the manager) who backed him 100% after he was booed earlier in the season.
He'll now fade into the obscurity his talent and attitude warrants.

| Another shambolic display.
The understanding between Lee and Clarke at centre half has totally disappeared for some reason.

Given Clarke's 'incident' last week I think it might be time to bring Bower back. Either that or put Rehman in there.

Fully agree, Rehman is clearly playing out of position at full back, and it isn't as if we've been strong enough in defence to justify keeping Lee and Clarke together.
The rumour mill came up with two different stories regarding Clarke yesterday, one is that he has been spared to the same fate as Conlon as he grovelled in front of the squad, the other is that City are waiting for Pawel Abbott to get fit at Darlington then we'll swap them for the rest of the season, and recall Bower.
I'd be more than happy with the latter but can't see it somehow.

I heard the Abbott rumour myself, and with Darlington's financial problems I guess it's possible. But I tend to think the problems at the club are more deep rooted than just the players on the pitch, and no amount of chopping and changing (which, incidentally, is part of the problem, we had 2 players with a squad number from 1-11 and only 4 players who played in the first game of the season yesterday) can sort it out.
I've got tickets to Chester next week, but I must admit I'm not expecting much.
On another note, whatever Daley's weaknesses were, we sure as hell struggle without him now.

Definitely, I think McCall's tendency to over-react when things go wrong is his big weakness as a manager - maybe it is because he is managing City and tries too hard to rectify things? A few weeks ago (before Daley's injury) it seemed he had settled on his best 11, but as soon as we had our first setback he started chopping and changing again.
Yesterday we had 5 loanee's in the team - that just isn't the way to succeed IMO.
Quote ="GCM1980"On another note, whatever Daley's weaknesses were, we sure as hell struggle without him now.'"
Indeed, I think his detractors might be feeling a little sheepish now - for us to play the way we are best suited to Daley was integral.

| With 5 loans in the team there is no real spine. Mccall can not expect to succeed when he changes it around so much. Fair enough i can understand he wanted to change it around a bit because of dissapointing results, but as people have pointed out on this thread it's one change too many. Looks like Daley is missed, how is Colbeck playing at the moment?, and KG?.

Colbeck has been awful since his return, playing without any confidence and his touch has totally deserted him, also rumoured to be part of Barry and Matt's little extra-curricular club, along with Kyle Nix.
Gillespie put some decent balls in yesterday but clearly lacked match fitness, he'll probably be ready just as the season finishes.

| So was Thorne's equaliser a turning point for us?
No, I don't think so either, I don't like this false hope we are being given because ourselves and Shrewsbury are unable to win, I'd rather be able to write the whole thing off now.

The strange thing is that we only have a couple of points more than we did this time last season, however the season was already over at this stage. It's also worth notiing that without the points deductions to other clubs we would be 10th which is where we finished last season and we have a much better squad than we had last season so our current situation is a huge disappointment.

I think between us (in 7th and 8th) we have 2 wins in our last 18 games, top form from the two pre-season promotion favourites eh? Without a major turnaround Chesterfield will overhaul us both, I'd say their run-in is more favourable than either of ours.

Indeed, the poor quality of the league makes the situation even more frustrating.
I did the BBC predictor thing earlier and had us ending up below Rotherham and Darlington, even with their points deductions.

| I'm annoyed we couldn't hold out at Bradford but satisfied we're still top. Our injury list is mounting though, Charlie McDonald won't play again this season. Its making me very nervous!

You're not kidding! Brentford are the current leaders and they looked awful!
They seemed happy with a point and were time-wasting before they even scored. I particularly enjoyed the 50 yard throw-in tactic! I haven't seen a team use it so often since Stockport had Kevin Francis up front and a bloke who could launch it 70 yards! It's the entertainment business boys.
The gulf between League 1 and 2 is growing and I can't see anyone from our league finishing in the top half of League 1 next season. Wycombe were about the best but they've imploded. Awful standard of football and refereeing to match. Roll on May!

I really hope Chesterfield win tomorrow, I'm sick of poor result after poor result but still having a genuine shout at a play-off spot.
If they do that puts us 4 behind them with 4 left, which we wouldn't overhaul, I just want this season over ASAP, it has been a massive failure.
