It takes a while to get in to it. At first I didn't get the ground game, but the more I watched it I grew to understand it.
At some point I want to get in to training for fitness and more understanding.

| tbh my interest was first piqued after seeing a bootleg vhs tape that was doing the rounds of some mates from the early/mid 90's which was pretty much royce gracie choking the crap out of everyone, but that was when ut was like bloodsport and wrestler v kickboxer V BJJ rather than everyone being multi skilled(to a point) like it is now, and not being someone in a Gi versus someone in shorts and a t shirt with trainers.

| I think a lot of it comes from not knowing much about any of the fighters except Bob Sapp and Brock Lesnar. I also think the fact Lesnar is a credible champ takes away from UFCs credability. I find all the "ground game" boring too.

as someone has said getting to know the ground game can be hard but when you understand it the sport is far better, it’s like a game of chess really in a strategic sense, seeing what people are doing and looking to exploit.
As someone who has progressed with my own martial arts for about 15 years seeing the likes of pride, ufc and so on show what works best really, coz in the old days in Asian and so on when people fought it was to the death or for the closer of the school, so it was avoided.
i don’t think people like brock lesnar take anything away from the sport because you have to remember the was a world class wrestler and i dont just mean WWE i mean 2 time all American wrestler with some good boxing skills from his younger days, and with his power and speed (and i think it was two years training) he is tailor made to fight

The guy's a beast!
He is a multiple time all american wrestler, and an all round genetic freak. He needs to have his gloves specially made due to his hands being that big.
He's scary!

Do you see Mir doing anything against him?
In the first fight Brock was destroying him until he made a rookie mistake I'm not sure he'd make again. That being said Mir's striking was amazing against Nog.
Which way do you see it going?

Mir is massively improved since they first fought, however so is Lesner. If Mir can stay out of the clinch and get in range i can see him frustrating Lesner into shooting and getting caught. Mir IMO is the best submission heavyweight in the world (better than Noguiera).
Lesner has those big blocks for hands and as he showed against Randy, it only takes a couple to send a bloke to sleep.
Very hard to call but i'll go for Mir in the 2nd.
GSP vs Alves is the fight of the card for me! Alves is bigger and stronger than anything GSP has been in against. Those leg kicks are awesome too.....would lmagine GSP will be taking this to the ground!

Interesting fight!
What a lot of people don't realise is that Alves has half decent BJJ himself (apart from getting tapped by Spencer Fisher). A big question is whether or not GSP can take Alves down, Hughes and Koscheck have both failed to do so. If that happens we could see Alves causing an upset KO win, we've seen that GSP has a glassjaw in the Serra fight.
Can you see Bisping doing the business against Hendo?

I think Bisping can do Henderson and hopefully he will do.

I hope he can although i don't think boxing at range like he did against Leben wil work. Henderson will come forward all fight, for me its whether Bisping can match him in the clinch.... Technically Bisping is the better striker but i don't think he has as much power as Hendo. Heart is ruling my head so i reckon Bisping on a split decision
UFC 105 is in Manchester is it not? Any ideas of the line up?

There's some confusion about that. They're apparently doing a fight night show in the UK on October 10th (which of course me and you won't be going to ) and UFC 105 on November 14th. Nobody seems to know which will be in Newcastle and which will be in Manchester, although apparently these are the venues chosen.
If UFC 105 is in Manchester I hope to attend my first UFC event. The card is set to feature Anderson Silva v Bisping/Hendo. Also, Dan Hardy is bound to be on the card, I'd like to see him tested again against the likes of Kampmann or Condit.

| I think GSP is far too fast and dominant to lose to Thiago. I don't think GSP will knock him out, it will go all 5, but I reckon GSP will just wear him down and dominate throughout. GSP just doesn't get dominated so if Thiago is to win, he's gonna have to try and catch GSP by surprise in the stand up, something I don't think GSP will allow.

Alves' is one of the best fighters in the world when it comes to takedown defence, he does have the ability to make GSP stand and slug it out, and Alves has the advantage with his leg kicks and unorthadox striking.
GSP will wear him down eventually by using his size to lean on him and wear him out (ala BJ Penn) and take a decision IMO.

| A top show last night again.
I didn't think I'd see a better fight than Franklin/Silva from last week for quite a while, but Sanchez v Guida was amazing. The judges got the result right on this one, and Sanchez may trouble Penn with his wrestling and much improved striking.
The judges got the decision in the Pearson v Winner fight badly wrong. Winner controlled the entire fight in the clinch up against the cage, and I had him winning 30-27. There is no way anyone could have thought Pearson won the fight. I reckon after the show Winner will go further in the UFC than Pearson does.
James Wilkes was the sleeper of the season this year. We got this with Nate Diaz in season 5, he didn't get much TV time and just kind of appeared from nowhere and won it. He showed some great Jiu Jitsu skills and I was shocked that he beat Demarques who was my favourite from when I first saw the list of fighters before I'd seen an episode.
The judging lately is really winding me up, especially in something as big as the TUF final you would hope they could get it correct. It's been said constantly on MMA forums, but they NEED to look at other methods rather than the 10 point must system, it simply does not work for MMA.

your right it was a great show! Sanchez v Guida fight was great, Guida has a chin of stone, i think with most over fighters that fight would have been over in the first round a few times.
Wilkes just out classed on the night, really looked like a seasoned fighter, he was cool and calm.
the judging has always been something of a hit or miss to me. i see it as a bit or a daft system because in the end who ever seems to have throw the most punches and made it look a bit exiting gets the win even if someone has been working the ground really well all fight.

They have regular fight nights near me in Workington quite often and apparently they're pretty good. One of the fighters, Martin Thompson, is surely only one win away from getting a UFC contract after knocking out Tengiz Tedoraze and Colin Robinson in quick times in his last two big fights.

I’ve noticed that Tony Weeks is a regular judge at UFC events. Weeks is also one of the States’ top boxing referees. Does this suggest he favours stand-up, come-forward dominance? Or is he as impartial as the next judge?

A friend of mine, well 2 of them (brothers) are both training in MMA. The older brother had a fight on saturday night in Middlesborough although I wasn't there. He won the fight by decision. He also had another fight in Rotheram about a month ago and I'm sure some here will of read the trouble that went down that night. Unfortunately all the trouble accured about 2 fights before he was ready to start which a shame. He has a record of 2 wins 1 loss.
I just watched the TUF finale as I Sky +'d it. Again I was really shocked at Wilks and how cam he kept. I never expected him to beat Darmaques, but he controlled him on the floor brilliantly. It was great to see his BBJ in use. Heel hooks, legs locks, omaplatas, Kimauras. The lot it was great to watch and fully deserved his win.
As for the Nightmare - Guida fight. WOW Sanchez came out with a message. Brilliant standing game and a flury of punches, as already said Guida has one hell of a chin. Seeing as he put up with that kick from Diego, the elbows to the head from Diego were also brutal as you could tell from all the blood everywhere.
I really can't wait for UFC 100 on the 11th. I'm going for a Mir win by submission.
GSP stoppage in the 3rd
and Bisping to smash fook out of Hendo!

| The friend who I mentioned has his first two fights on youtube. Type in Louis Chapman. I think it comes up as Louis Chapman 1st fight and then his second which he lost is against Micky Lockey of Rotheram.
