I don't think so. It is a horror challenge and from the gif it looks like the player broke his leg, but it was the contribution of both of them going in like idiots which caused this. It wasn't like one player had deliberately gone out and done another player, it was one player diving in like a fool swinging into the studs of a player whose gone into a challenge studs first.

Keane's on AIH was much worse than this. There will be many tackles much worse than this.

The player is Marcin Wasilewski and the tackle was from Axel Witsel apparently Hull City were interested in Wasilewski and were going to sign him in a £2m deal...

The bloke in red has gone in in a horrible way, but if the other player hadn't swung in like he has then there would've been no real problems.

If the guy in red had sped up a touch and nicked it down the touchline then he'd have been kicked in the air by the stupid challenge from the injured guy.

The guy in red has made a lousy challenge, but IMO it was more of a cowards tackle to protect himself than a deliberate attempt to do someone.

not having that at all, the attempted tackle from the player sliding in, is legitimate, I can't for the life of me work out what the other player is trying to do, having watched it about 20 times, other than 'do him'.

I agree. There's no way you go in with your studs raised, with such force that it destroys his leg, to 'protect' yourself.

Nick the ball, jump the challenge, heck, even dive, but to go in with your stoods like that bang on the bullseye isn't protecting yourself, it's pretty savage.

The injured player has gone in like a train to boot the ball downfield. If he'd have been second to the ball it'd be the player in red who would've been kicked in the air. There was no need for him to go in like that. It was a nothing position where he could've just played the ball into touch without anyone blinking an eye. It was because he went in so hard in a ball-and-all challenge that made the player in red's over-the-top challenge so serious.

FIFA have clamped down hard on tackles like these, from both of the players. Going in over the top will often result in a red. But so will a wild swing like the injured player did.

It's not just his force which has caused the injury, it is caused by both of them going in as they did.

If the injured player hasn't swung in like that then his leg isn't there to be shattered, is it?



I'm not saying it's not a bad challenge. It is. There's no way on earth that he should have done that. But neither was it a pre-meditated lunge done to do the player. It's just a horrible injury caused by both players going into a challenge in a manner which has been outlawed.
