Mate you gotta search some old WCW footage from about '98, he really is good on the mic, if he seems annoying/irritating when talking these days I would say it's more down to the role WWE wants him to play.

In WCW and WWF/E he really has done some quality stuff (also search his p*$$taking of Stephanie during the Invasion days

). Always makes the best of a bad situation, performer of the year IMO.

i was just wacthing a match before on youtube and what a match it was the brood against the ministry it was actually believable and the storyline were good and intense not like the crap you get these days ;(

they should stop scripting promos. everyone sounds the same.

they should go back to giving the wrestlers points they have to get across and let them develop their own speaking style. might help people actually care about them if their not all spouting weak hack lines

Watched some great matches from the Rise and Fall.... DVD last night:

Rey Mysterio Jr v Dean Malenko (Cruiserweight title match)
Syxx v Eddie Guerrero (Ladder match for the US title)
Eddie Guerrero v Dean Malenko (US title match)

Superb high-flying and technical wrestling, easy to see why WCW was rated far superior for in-ring action from 96-98, the only negative was the lack of clean finishes (but I think this was the case generally during the Monday Night Wars).

Hate to say it but Mysterio is a fraction of the performer now that he was back then. Was so fast and agile. Will never understand why he decided to pack on so much muscle - it's slowed him down a lot IMO (thus making him a much less exciting/unpredicatable) wrestler, + personally I still can't take him seriously when he's a heavyweight title contender (and clearly a lot of other fans didn't when he was champ), so don't really see what he's gained.


Seriously, any fan of him check out his WCW matches from 96-99, and ECW from 95, it's almost like watching a different wrestler to the 'WWE Universe' version (bloody size-obsessed WWE

Agree 100% mate. I think it was Road Dogg who said in a shoot interview that many wrestlers had a lot of creative control during the boom years. He said about literally walking down the aisle not knowing what he was going to say, but the spontiniety (sp) would bring out something personal/real and it worked - the fans could see it was genuine and believed in it.

I know Russo has his critics, but I do agree with his philosophy that often the key to getting a wrestler over is to pick out something real about them and blow it up, e.g. Steve Austin was a real redneck growing up, so playing the role would have felt a hell of a lot more natural (and thus came across that way) rather then the awful Ringmaster gimmick.

It wasn't Russo's philosophy. I've heard Micheal Hayes say it an awful lot of times that the best gimmicks are the guys themselves with part of their personality turned up to 11. Mick Foley, Steve Austin, The Rock, Ric Flair, Shawn Micheals, they're all proof of this.

Traci Brooks' edition is now a tribute to Farrah Fawcett and Brooks will appear on the e-mailing list edition.

After having read both of these guys auto bio's that becomes very obvious and as you say it works.
It also means they dont have to go far to get new source material as any thing they can think they can say


An example of scripting not working was the other year when Hulk Hogan was on the mic v's Vinny Mac and the Hulk got a line wrong.
It fell apart becuase The Hulkster[size=50tm[/size had nowhere to go for help as it wasn't him writing/thinking it.

I remember that, it was truly embarassing.
