What was the score?
People never said the same about Aston Villa when we outplayed them but lost to a penalty and an own goal.
I hope everybody calms the phuck down with Arsenal, every year they show that they are a world class side and suddenly nobody compares to the genius that is Wenger. But usually, after a bad result, everybody begins to see a bit of sense and realize they still need a couple of players.

You know a penalty is right when even Alan "Kopite" Green says the rooney penalty was stone wall.
TBF, the tackle by fletcher on arshavin was a clear pen.

Arsenal are a Fantastic Footballing Side, Losing to Manchester United at Old Trafford is no means the end of the world, To outplay Manchester United away from home despite losing will give Arsenal plenty of positives and if it wasn't for Ben Fosters outstreched leg it could have quite easily been 2-0 Arsenal...
You lost at Home against a team outside the Top 4 completly different, The fact you outplayed Aston Villa at Home and still lost 3-1 is why you are not serious Title Challengers...

So let me get this, we lose a game and aren't serious title contenders after what, four games? Yet Arsenal, a side who were sh*t last year suddenly are?
It's far too early to be making predictions like that. It just makes me laugh how every year, every neutral gets giddy over Arsenal, "they are the most entertaining", "they don't pass it long", "they've finally matured" bla bla bla. It's the same old same old with Arsenal, what use is outplaying a side if you're not gonna win?
Today's game proved relatively little for Arsenal's title credentials, in fact, it shown United are more credible champions as they won despite being second best. I mean, playing well and losing is what Arsenal do every year, and every year they don't win the title.

| Think Liverpool stopped being serious title contenders in many people's eyes when they sold Alonso. Gerrard doesn't look to be at his best and there's a striking lack of quality depth in the squad.

To be honest, I think when Aquilani returns, Alonso will be forgotten. If we're still in it at Christmas and Aquilani settles well, then I feel we'll definitely be there or thereabouts come May.
Problem with Gerrard is he isn't getting enough ball, something Alonso always made sure happened, it was basically Alonso's role. I believe when Aquilani comes in, he'll strike up a great partnership with Gerrard, just like Alonso did, but I believe Aquilani will certainly add more offensively than Alonso, but we may lack Xabi's battling qualities defensively more.

A Lack in depth in general Starting 11 is worthy of Top 4, In Depth they are behind Manchester City & Tottenham Hotspur IMO...

I'd say the bigger problem is that when Gerrard doesn't get enough ball two players suffer and they are your best two.
Torres needs Gerrard to take the ball up and draw the defender.
As for Aquilani, he's in the Gerrard mould. Where as Alonso complimented Gerrard I think you could end up with a Lampard/Gerrard England situation.

Arsenal weren't Sh*t last year they were struck down with numerous injuries and the fact the still made the Top 4 shows the depth in the squad they have. Losing two out of your first 4 games isn't a great start and the fact if Gerrard & Torres were to get injured you really would struggle IMO your squad isn't capable of a Title Challenge.

No it isn't you have what 4 Days until the End of the Transfer Window and for the sake of there Title Challenge you better hope that Liverpool make some signings.

So let me get this one. Arsenal weren't crap last year because they had injuries, but we spend basically half a season without a fully fit Torres and still managed to challenge, yet we're the sh*t ones and Arsenal are the ones getting everyone wet? ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif) Always knew you were a closet gooner.
Arsenal have always been up there with the best, but people get carried away every season when they put in a spell of a few good games, claiming them champions in August, same with our fans, too.
Today proved little. If you to OT, dominate and don't win, you've got to ask yourselves serious question as to WTF has gone wrong.
Arsenal went to OT last year and held their own in the league, they beat them at the Emirates but it still proves relatively little. Give it a few months before anybody is wrote off. The fact is, Arsenal lost today, considering most say United are severely weakened, what does that say about Arsenal? The result is all that matters.
As for Aquilani and Gerrard. I don't think they're that alike, Aquilani has often been played in 'the hole' quite simply because Spalletti preferred Pizzaro and de Rossi in the middle over him. When Aquilani played in the middle he was probably better there, as that's his natural position, whereas with Gerrard, I believe he's naturally a second striker/attacking midfielder, despite him not playing there that long.
I believe Aquilani could fill Alonso's role but actually add more to the team against the smaller sides, as he's much better at getting forward than Alonso, and his creative passing is vastly superior. My only worry is in the big games, but Lucas shown last year at OT he can hold his own against a top side.

That's a big statement.

Surely him going forward is irrelevant if as you say Gerrard will be charged with that role. You need a good centre midfielder who can link up the play etc. Something Alonso did well week in week out.

Alonso wasn't an amazingly creative player. Gerrard creates everything for us, Alonso just got it to Gerrard. In terms of opening up a defence and creating a goalscoring opportunity, then I'd say Aquilani has more in his locker in that department. I also believe he has more dribbling and shooting ability than Alonso.
Alonso was a good player, he kept the ball well and he was brilliant and picking the right pass almost every time, he had the ability to execute this every week, but what he done wasn't something of the God's. If Aquilani settles well and gets up to speed with things quickly, then I believe he could fill Xabi's hole very well.
Against small sides at home, I'd probably say Aquilani's ability to get forward will be needed. Our problem last year was our lack of go-to players, if we couldn't get Gerrard in the game, we were pretty much screwed at times. I believe having a player as dangerous as Aquilani is around the box will certainly give us more options in terms of creating chances against small sides. Alonso rarely ventured forward and created things, against small sides at home (the ones we drawn with), we needed something more.
Away from home and in the bigger games, I believe is where we'll miss Xabi more. But if Aquilani settles well, then playing away from home won't be so bad, but Alonso's underrated defensive game will be missed in the bigger games.

So Arsenal where the Sh*t ones despite going 21 matches unbeaten?, You had One player missing whereas Arsenal had the likes of Fabregas, Clichy, Adebayor, Van Persie, Eduardo all missing for long spells, Yorkshireman a closest Gunner erm no thanks, Who do you believe has the Stronger squad out of the two Liverpool or Arsenal?...

Why would the need to ask serious questions?, They outplayed the Champions at the Champions home ground and if it wasn't for a Freakish Own-Goal and a Penalty it would have been a different result, If it was a case of Manchester United scoring two superb goals highlighting Arsenals weaknesses then it would be a different keetle of fish, No questions need to be asked it was extremely unfourtunate for Arsenal... ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif)

I do believe Xabi Alonso is a massive loss and i can't comment on Alberto Aquilani as i haven't seen enough of him but why would Real Madrid pay £30m for a player when they can have a supposed better player for £19m [i(Or what ever the figure was)[/i, It doesn't make much sense replacing on of your most influential players with somebody who won't be fit until October...
