Gillingham drew 1-1 with Bournemouth

Fairly pleasing start today, there's no better finisher in this league than Peter Thorne and if he stays fit and gets some service we'll go well.

I was very pleased with the way that we went up the pitch and got the second while Notts were having their best spell of the game, though at 2-0 we did go to sleep a little but, apart from Paul Arnison, we were pretty much in control at the back.

I'll be happier when Brandon and Colbeck come back as I do think Nix on the left is a weakness, and Daley just isn't a 90 minute man.

Bring on the dog-botherers on Tuesday, it will be interesting to pit ourselves against one of the fancied teams from a league above.

Think Grant Holt or Richard Walker might have something to say about that.

They could say what they want, he's in a different class to either of them.

That could be the easiest tenner Asim will ever make. He looked deadly today, as he did at the back end of last season.

That second goal was different class, and it was right infront of me! Loved it!

Echo the thoughts about Arnison, Moncur looked slightly more comfortable when he came on and I'd give him a go against Hudders, although their winger was quality (Weston). We looked in control throughout I thought, Evans did very well. It's nice to see a keeper instill confidence in his back 4 by collecting the ball and coming out to claim it.

My MOTM however, McLaren. Everything went through him today, he totally runs the show. An invaluable asset for this, and any League One/League Two side.

While he showed some obvious signs of class, I think McLaren was a little off the pace at times, might need to pick it up and not expect quite so much time on the ball.

Arnison got done quite a few times and I was glad to see Moncur come on, I was in Midland Rd and Moncur is a real shouter, encourages the rest of the team.

Really pleasing to see Omar do so well, he really attacked them. While you'll always get the odd brain explosion from him, when he runs at people like that he really scares them.

Not to get on McCall's back though, why was Peter Thorne left on the bench in such an important game? Bemusing.

Because it isn't that important really. Keeping Thorne fresh and fit for the league is important.

Billy Topp is unhappy according to McCall. Not sure whether it's homesickness or something else, but not good news.

Im guessing Thorne was on the bench so he will be fresh for the league game on saturday,McCall obviously didnt give a rats ass about this cup but what im peed off it is our performance in the 2nd half,even Danny Cadamatri made us look ordinary.
We conceded 4 goals in one half of football which worries me and it really has knocked my confidence.

Must have been at a different game to me, first half we were OK but you could tell Town were a class above us, second half we were diabolical from 1 to 11, couldn't hold the ball up front, non-existent midfield and defence dragged all over the place. 3 of Town's goals were gifts and that's annoying.

A couple of McCall's decisions baffled me tonight, no Thorne for starters (Conlon was abysmal) and then the substitutions - if he wanted to protect Thorne then why bring him on at 2 down? and TJ Moncur on at right midfield? Bizarre to say the least.

I don't get into these ing contests about fans, but I have to say our following was superb tonight. The away end was practically full (they had to remove the covering on the end blocks as more and more came in) so that was 4k out of an attendance of 8900 - and we deserved better than that performance.

Bad news about Topp too, though not entirely surprising, when the deal was done last season McCall seemed to not know too much about it or the player, and he's clearly regarded as 4th choice striker at best, to be fair I wouldn't be happy if Barry Conlon was rated above me.

That's the optimism well and truly gone anyway!
