Be that as it may, as Shane Warne pointed out it's still 0-0. It doesn't matter how well England are playing or how poorly Australia are going, if they don't get 10 Aussie wickets in time they won't win the game. They cannot bowl properly on the evidence we've seen so far, but Ponting, Clark, North, Haddin and Hussey are all perfectly capable of getting 150 on that pitch. Rain could also cost England if they don't declare early enough.

We should just declare and get stuck into them.

With the runs we already have on the board the Aussies will need to see out 5 sessions just to secure a draw, with the forecast as it is it makes no sense to bat on, though I expect we will for an hour or so as Strauss can be quite a cautious captain.

Strauss can be a bit conservative, kp to cane it from the off, declare as soon as he's out or after an hour, quick burst before lunch from the quickies, another after lunch, the get Swanny landing it in champagne's footmarks.

i wonder if in some kind of way it might be better if the aussies rip through us this morning. it would get rid of all doubt regarding a declaration and the english bowlers would get some confidence if the pitch misbehaves a bit, especially swann.

Sure I've read that there is meant to be a 90% chance of rain over the next couple of days. Worth lumping on the draw. Why we aren't declaring I don't know.

That was a massive wicket in the last over, but whether we'll have the weather to take 6 wickets tomorrow is the big question now.

I don't think the decision to bat on will harm us. We scored those extra runs so quickly, and had we declared on the overnight score the Aussies would already be close to making us bat again. As it is they need another 130 or so and we still have a chance to win by an innings.

I assume there will be another early start tomorrow to make up for lost time?
