To be honest, Manning didn't choke in that, it was Brees and the Saints who were unquestionably brilliant. Both QBs were superb but what the difference for me was that kickoff, genius.
'"
I agree. Both QBs were superb. Saints won the game because they took chances. They are certainly most deserving winners. I've got my black n gold Fleur De Lis beads on today in honour of their achievement. I feel very lucky that my first NFL game was at the Superdome the season the Saints went all the way. Makes it even more special.

| Whilst not being an absolute classic Superbowl it always remained engaging and interesting and I think it clearly showed the best 2 teams in the NFL this season. After a slow start I thought Brees was absolutely outstanding and for someone in their first SB, very very composed.
Manning definitely didnt choke for me...he was the Colts' best player and if a couple of passes had stuck then who knows? I was slightly disappointed that Dallas Clark didnt get in the game after the first 5 minutes but was that more due to the Saints re-organising or Manning spreading it out more??
As for next season its hard to predict who will/wont be challenging without the draft or FA deals known yet, but I'd be quite upset/annoyed if my Jets arent winning/challenging for the AFC East title and/or wildcard place.
If Dallas go for broke and spend massively in order to get to their own Superbowl next year then I can see them being big-time contenders in the NFC.

| The Jets have all the pieces in place, just remains to be seen whether they "Open" the playbook for Mark Sanchez. They have 2 good running backs in Greene and Jones and wideouts in Cotchery and Edwards and a cruel defence.

The Jets are good.
Cotchery is a nice 3rd guy. Edwards has all the talent but hands of stone. If they can get a reciever (Brandon Marshall?) they will win the East.

| What coverage did you all opt for? I went for BBC and it was okay to be fair. I think Alex Smith came across really well. In my opinion anything is better than watching halling trying to act American and be cool.

| =#8040FFCan't see past the Patriots in the East next year, rumours about of Boldin or Marshall for a 2nd round pick (Pats have 3) as well as looking into Peppers & Karlos Dansby will leave them being able to draft BPA not for need and could end up with CJ Spiller & a couple of O lineman (Neal needs replacing) hopefully Maukice Pouncey C/G from Florida will be one of the players, even Revis couldn't stop the Patriots passing attack with Moss/Marshall/Edelman/Spiller
2 wildcard spots will go to the Jets & Ravens again, Steelers & Chargers are shoe-ins again, and I fancy the titans in the South especially if all the Colts coaching staff does retire this year.

=#8000FFI went for the BBC too, Alex Smith came across really well and added a different insight and Carlson is about x10000000 better then that smug, arrogant idiot Halling, and no adverts made it an easy choice tbh.

I went for the BBC as I always do. The absence of adverts is the major reason but also I prefer the studio guests, especially Carlson. I think Humphries is a decent presenter other than a one or two silly comments (like when Manning threw the pick six and he seemed to think the Colts could realistically come back) but he works well because he, like half of the audience who are watching, isn't a die hard fan of the game.

I think it was a reasonable Superbowl but pretty average overall. Neither team really had anything on defense to make it truly exciting. All the greatest Superbowl contests and teams have been involved in games with high drama and this lacked it. Okay, so there was the pick six and the onside kick but that was it. There weren't many "Big Time" plays and because of the efficiencies of both offences we didn't see those really great pressure moments where somebody comes up big.
Overall I think that's a reflection of the two teams, neither of which resembles anything like a great team. When I think of the great teams I think of Hall Of Famers littering the field and that was lacking a bit last night. In many ways it's similar to Superbowl XVI with Brees putting in a Montana-esque performance of tidy, efficient short passing. If the Saints can hold on to their squad and add some improvement in their defense they could be around for a few years with Brees. Sadly I understand that some of the squad are out of contract and may be going elsewhere e.g. Bush.
Brees' performance though was excellent. In fact, the Saints offensive game plan, particularly the ball control reminded me of Phil Simms when he controlled the game in those terrific Giants teams.

Can't stand Humphries but Alex Smith was great. Straight talking, simple and easy to understand. He was dissecting plays and situations without any flannel.

Good for you
But Im afraid you would be very dissapointed come play-off time with a 9-9 record and only 1 SB ring to show for "the best QB ever" and that was against Rex Grossman . Hes no doubt one of the best in the stat department and has consistently got his team to the play-offs but when it comes to the play-offs themselves theres just something missing for me, the Saints were awesome last night after a slow start and deserved everything they got, Brees will be getting an even bigger contract extension than he was going to anyway.
Like I say he can have his MVPs and Brady can have his rings to look back on in the future I know which I would rather have

| Some people seem to be neglecting that football consists of offense and defense and the fact that the Patriots had one of the best defenses in football when they won those Super Bowls. Manning has rarely had the benefit of a truly dominant defense. Even when they did win the Super Bowl and their defense was suddenly on fire, their personnel was still nothing special.
Manning and Brady will go down as two of the best QB's in the NFL in the last decade and a half but despite Brady's rings, if I was picking a QB for my team it would have to be Manning every time.

Brady showed just how "good" he is against the Ravens.
Down by 3 scores, he panics and starts chucking picks.
Manning on the other hand, down by 17 a few times, he engineers a comeback, and is by far the most dangerous QB after the two minute warning.
Super Bowls are one-off games that can be won by a big defensive play, as well as the offence getting it right. To be leading the stats after 12 years shows consistancy, thats why Favre is one of the all-time greats, he leads everything, and yet he's only got one ring...

| ST CONROY In the middle of one of your rants about McDaniels Denver was your pick before the season as the #1 pick for the 2010 draft so i think the Chiefs will settle for an 8-8 season like the Broncos finished.

Hey i got it wrong. Denver were decent but collapsed down the stretch. Whatever spin you put on it McDaniels is an absolutely inept coach. He's run out his best player (Cutler), is on the verge of losing his best reciever (Marshall) and has used the second best reciever (Royal) so badly that he has regressed, replaced Cutler with a QB who isn't able to throw deep balls and traded away their first round pick (or a first round pick since they had 2) to draft a poor CB in the mid second round called Alphonso Smith.
The Chiefs are really bad. They traded for Cassell who is in the bottom 5 in terms of starting QB's and actually worse than what they had in Thigpen. The only bright spot is the RB, he could pull out a win or two.
Also disturbingly i'm with LFC. I despise both but i'd take Brady for the play-offs. Peyton didn't choke (it was a bad throw for the pick though) but his record in the play-offs is far from great. Up against QB's of a comparable nature he has lost. Somebody as good as he is should be winning more than he is losing. He also has the benefit of an underated defence and generally leading games (case in point them being up by 10 on Sunday).
