Fahey advises Armstrong to re-test '99 samples JOHN Fahey, chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has reminded cycling legend Lance Armstrong that he can still dispel rumours of past doping offences by accepting the re-testing of his 1999 Tour de France samples.
"If there is a question mark hanging over him there is one way in which he could resolve that,'' said Fahey. "The samples that were taken and that were the subject of many rumours can still be analysed.
"But that requires his permission, and he refuses to give that permission,'' the former NSW Premier added.
In 2005, shortly after the US cyclist retired - in what was to be a temporary move, - the French sports daily L'Equipe reported that a retroactive test of urine samples taken from Armstrong during the 1999 edition of the Tour had found traces of the banned substance EPO.

Was that because Cavendish was not there to leave Aussie slackers like McEwen and Davies in his slipstream

Tour de France starts tomorrow. Time to dig out the bike and the figure hugging cycling shorts. And the drugs. Allegedly.

Very much looking forward to it...it COULD be a very open race if teams have a go at Astana early on, if not it could well be a Contador-led procession...Sastre should be aggressive as defending champ, the Schleck brothers could form a deadly duo, Armstrong/Leipheimer/Kloden could become Astana team-leader if Alberto struggles, Cadel Evans will be his usual gritty self, Menchov (if he's recovered from winning the Giro) could be a factor and there's a couple of up-and-coming contenders in Kreuziger, Nibali and Gesink who could shake it up a little...and all this with Cav looking to win the Green jersey as well...bring it on!!
I will go for a podium of...
1 - Contador
2 - Sastre
3 - Kloden

| Going for:
1. Andy Schleck
2. Alberto Contador
3. Cadel Evans
Cav will need major help from his team mates in the mountains to avoid elimination and get to Paris - he's a hopeless climber.

Bit harsh on Cav...I don't think he's a more hopeless climber than his rivals for the green jersey...he just needs to get in a group that'll get hom in time a la O'Grady...he could even be in yellow in the first week with plenty of sprinters' stages and a team time trial as well.

Don't tell me, tell changa/fredie.
It's never. Cadel Evans couldn't quite hack it last year.
I'm claiming Stephen Roche for us.
Cavendish must be in with a chance of the green, although he could have done without Boonen being let back in.

| Starts today at 15.00 with a short time trial of about 20 mins. It's live on ITV4 from 16.30 with highlights at 20.00.
Not Cavendish's cup of tea, but hopefully Bradley Wiggins and David Millar might get a look in.

| Cancellara wins, Contador second, Wiggins an excellent third. Armstrong tenth.
An unusual first stage, leading to some quite big time differences.

| Mark 'The Manx Missile' Cavendish (GB) prevails in the first sprint finish of this year's Tour.
The next interesting stage should be the Team Time Trial on Tuesday.

| He's the best sprinter around by miles - nobody gets close as we saw today.
Is Farrar the new McEwan? He doesn't seem to have a structured lead out as such but gets the right wheel at the right time.
Tony Martin looked strong early today - been slashed in the KOM betting
