How can you roll your eyes at a top signing like that, but then not say anything about Lucketti who has passed it and clearly looked it the other day.
Should be a good season for Town next season though. ST is building a squad, which is something Huddersfield have been missing for many years. Always seemed to have a nice 11 lately but nothing more.
What starting team and formation would you go with?

| Huddersfield Town sign midfielder/ winger Gary Roberts from Ipswich.Uncle Ken's piggy bank has taken a bit of a bashing this summer.2 more signings to come apparently.
and are giving a trial to 102 year old David Unsworth who will bring us plenty of experience.

I think that was definitely a problem at the begining of his tenure and he said the squad was too big.
Since the end of last season Freedman, Da Costa, Constantine, Elding, Ameobi, Thompson have gone and Robinson, Enoch, Snodgrass, Becchio and probably Telfer have signed. Sheehan's move has been made permanent. Net result the squad is only one smaller.
That said I reckon the writing is clearly on the wall for Sorsa, Carole, Westlake, Kandol, Weston and probably (IMO) Hughes and Sweeney.
That would make a squad of only about 17 plus the kids - who he seems happy to use.

| The long-running guessing game surrounding Nicky Maynard finally ended today as Nicky completed a £2.25m move to Bristol City.
Good luck to the lad.

No disagreement from me on that but I wish him all the best.
Was a very popular figure at Crewe both at the academy and when he progressed into the senior squad.

Decent enough player but I feel slightly annoyed that we let Garner go for £1.1m, he's twice the player Maynard is IMO.

I guess its 4 from Douglas, Kilkenny, Prutton, Howson, Robinson, Johnson, Hughes, Delph or even Snodgrass. Even if you ignore the last 3 (and Sweeney and Sorsa) thats still 4 from 6 and whilst Johnson, for example, is left sided he's far from an out and out winger, so yeah you're right, though I think Robinson helps with goals and flair from midfield so teres more balance though still not much genuine width.
You going Saturday?

Depends on how other clubs view it I guess. Maynard scored 35 in 57 matches and Garner notched 14 in 34 matches I believe. I don't know whether those stats are relevant but it shows a better strike rate for Maynard.
However, I agree that Garner is a decent player and was surprised that he went so cheaply. I believe there was a release clause in his contract and also that a wedge of that money went to Rovers, so it is understandable that Carlisle may feel a little short-changed.
If the Alex website is to be believed, the club held firm on their asking price. The main advantage for Crewe of course is that Maynard came through the ranks at Gresty Road so there is no sell-on fee to be paid.

Definitely agree about Johnson. I think he has the makings of a very decent player.
Hopefully Gary will sort a ruby out soon.

You watch it on LUTV then Tad Rhino?
Managed to get down to Elland Road yesterday. Good game I thought. Robinson seems to have that thing we just didn't have last season. It may be in the past, but, if I feel if we had Robbo at Leeds last season, we'd have beaten Donny in the Play Off final.
Douglas did okay yesterday, yet it seems he's out of the door. Can't really complain at that. Don't rate him at all. Would have Delph, Prutton, Howson and Kilkenny in front of him. Rumours have it he's off to Burnley, or perhaps even Blackwell's Sheffield United. If we receive a bid of £300,000+ I'd snap their hands off.
Impressed by Showmuni yesterday, did fairly well in the first half, just needs to hit the back of the net for the first time; hopefully Shorpe on Saturday could be the start of an illustrious partnership between him and Beckford.
Hopefully Becchio manages to get a run out vs Scunny. Seems promising, sad that we didn't sign Haber, seemed decent from the games I saw of him in Ireland.
In Belgium, many expected to wipe Dender to wipe the floor with United, so to beat them so emphatically shows that Mac/Stan have got the team playing. We also played some sexy fast football yesterday. Very happy, role on the new season.

| First half was excellent.
Also look to have a midfield now that has more variety, creativity and goals in it.
Oh, and Tres pulled out of the friendly tonight - looks like he's off to Peterborough or Millwall.

Our midfield:
Howson (Just like a certain Mr McAllister), Prutton (Similar to Batty, run all day and has ability too), Johnson (Similar in many ways to Gary Speed), Robinson (small, great feet, desire to get stuck in, a bit like Strachan).. See a pattern here?
Is McAllister trying to model our midfield on our 1992 title winning season midfield?
As far as I'm concerned, promotion is a must. Whether via the Play Offs or the top two. Anything else would be a failure. This has the makings of a superb season. Roll on Scunny...

Should put a fairly strong side out to help the side gel and take shape.

| Might as well jump on this might I.
Oldham 4 – 3 Millwall.
Entertaining if not heart attack inducing game. Oldham played well throughout but dropped some absolute howlers in defence. Crossley proved yet again that despite his experience he can still make errors a 12 year old keeper would. At one point we were 1-3 down with Millwall only registering 2 shots on target.
Some good well worked goals scored to win us the game.
Kept a clean sheet last night in the League cup against Dale despite playing with 10 men for 75 minutes so things are looking up on the defensive front.
Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday for the title decider. £27 disgusting.

| The Crewe rollercoaster has departed from the station. We look forward to the ups and downs, the thrills and spills, and the constant need for reality checks. To quote Bill Hicks, 'life is just a ride' - well strap in because here we go.
Saturday saw Crewe hosting Brighton and ended up losing 2-1. The Railwaymen were absolutely shocking from the kick-off and it only got slightly better towards the end. Brighton, in all fairness, could and should have won that match by eight clear goals so there must be some positives in there for Crewe, surely. The positive points were that Collis was an inspired signing as a keeper, Joel Grant (MoM) was a breath of fresh air and Elding lifted the team as soon as he came on.
The league points were lost but did the coaching staff learn from the experience? Yes they did and you won't believe how surprised I am at admitting that!
Yesterday's cup match against Barnsley saw Elding in the starting line-up and Crewe actually looked like a team who could compete. Grant, Moore, Pope and Elding ran their socks off and kept the crowd royally entertained.
To run out 2-0 winners was easily enough to satisfy the increasingly bad-tempered Gresty Road End mob and earn a second round tie against Bristol City at Gresty Road.
I for one will welcome Nicky Maynard back to Gresty Road as he served us well, both on the field and in providing (through his transfer) the much needed funds to keep Crewe in the black.
Enough said. If Crewe run true to form we will have a disastrous day away at Carlisle on Saturday, although I really hope not.

| well we rinsed Bradford in the cup on tuesday. As it goes Grandpa Stan was far from impressed with our performance against Stockport labelling us "rubbish".he spent the whole first half looking mighty cross with his arms folded, come the 2nd half they decided to waken up & banged 4 in so he must have given them the bad news at halftime.Colchester away on saturday & if we scrape a draw i'll be happy.
PS The midfielder Roberts we signed from Ipswich looks a very good player.
