Surely the NZRU can manage to put a competitive side together with their own players.

Add RL players into there though and you've got a side capable of doing anything they fancied.

It's the chance for RL players to win an Olympic Gold too, something that is only possible if they do another sport, of which Sevens is the closest to RL.

Just to add to that, picking a Sevens side for England with players from both codes, who would you pick? (My Sevens knowledge isn't great though, so I'm only picking players I know!)

Sevens is an awful game. I was invited to a tournament in Barcelona earlier this year and like an idiot I accepted. Thank gawd the bar was open.

Looks a little lightweight to me that team

I watch a bit of the Union 7’s circuit on TV and you can see that the game is evolving. Whereas you would have seen a couple of playmakers in the past and 3 or 4 fast men, the successful teams now are all a very similar size and shape... usually about 6’1”, 16 stone and mobile. If I were to pick a hybrid 7’s team from League and Union, I would go for big outside backs (in the Briscoe, Hall, Jones-Bishop etc mould) and mobile back rowers... Tomkins and Lawes would be a good shout but so would the likes of Ellis who is mobile and has good hands – the best teams these days look at ways of going through the line whereas the old tactics of lateral passing to the flying wing men are less effective as the defences have become better organised

I've played a bit of sevens before, and as a front rower (in union), it's horrible!

I'd probably pick a bigger centre instead of Tait, Chris Bridge probably, as Yeaman's passing isn't good enough and have Ellis in the squad instead of Wilkin.

I wouldn't be surprised if the RFU asked a few RL players to play in the Olympic Sevens to be honest.

And miss a whole month of the season?

If they did the RFL should tell them to get stuffed,as Catalancs says they would probably miss a whole month of the season to play some daft novelty game called sevens which is dire IMO.

RFU has already picked a sevens side who are in training for the olympics.

Easter says it is 'possible' he made infamous remark. Says report of comment was 'very disappointing'.

If they played then they would, but for some players it would be worth it. I doubt our clubs would allow this to happen, but as I say, it wouldn't surprise me if the RFU made a few enquiries.

For the money? Has union really become so base?

That it even crossed his mind, let alone that he thought to say it out loud in the dressing room after such a defeat says a lot about his motivations behind playing for his country.

Too right GF, until our game gets the same media treatment and coverage I am not ashamed to say I am envious.

You claim to be a fan of both codes of Rugby,if we got the same coverage which would be the bigger game,I think I know the answer.

Rugby League overtaking Union in the UK? do you also post under the name dally messenger? 2 Games in the last month.......both Wales at Home, both v Australia.........the respective attendances has nothing to do with the Media.........supply and demand is what it's all about....one game got 69k, the other 5,300.....

I was highlighting Australia cj as it's a country where union and rugby league have had equal media coverage on the whole and league has come out on top, certainly at club level.

More for the opportunity to win an Olympic Gold to be honest, players play for the same 2 trophies every year in Rugby League, someone like Sean Long who won them both a number of times and had nothing left to achieve in RL but still loves the game might have fancied it.

I come onto this thread to discuss all matters Rugby Union, please stop banging on about Rugby League all the time... you do realise that there are dozens of message boards and hundreds (if not thousands) of threads about Rugby League on RLFANS.COM (there is a bit of a clue in the name) – can’t you pick one of those to talk about RL all the time?

On the not understanding link, from my experience the game is like that at every level, players play in structures and are told where to run, but not when or why (if that makes sense).

My first year in our 6th form team, we were struggling until a coach with a strong RL past got more involved and taught us firstly how to defend, and then to play what's in front of you, not what it says in the playbook and turned our season around.
