As always I will explain my comment.
We have often spoke about lacking experience in the halves, often looking over to Aus for a half to add experience (Orford Lockyer) When perhaps the experienced half we need is actually a Wiganer.
Lets look at Long.
Still in my opinion the best 7 in SL.
Has the experience and knows how to win a game.
Can control the team great organisation skills.
Great kicking game.
Still had a quick step
Great passer of the ball.
Half backs can play on into their 30s and do the job as they don't suffer a lot of impact in their game (like the forwards), and don't always have to be quick (like the other backs). A good 7 plays with his brain, not his braun, like Long does.
His influence on the camp would be that of experience and add a leadership quality which we would benefit from, especially a constantly improving Sam Tomkins.
For me Long and a good prop could well be the missing pieces.

Take all the hatred of the guy away and ask the question would he be an improvment on what we have and to me the answear is yes but it's a risk pairing him up with Gleeson again at a club where he's detested by the fans.
He'd have to be about 4/5th choice at best at the moment.

It does not matter if he is an improvement on what we currently have, wht does matter is, is he the best half available at the moment, the answer is categorically NO. |

Agree though.
Going away from Long though i've said my order of priority would be-
1-Myler
2-Dobson
3Long/Fien
The first 2 would be looking long term to form a hlafback partnership with Tomkins whereas Fien/Long would be a stop gap signing but both are classy players. |

We maybe do not but i sure would hope that IL does. What we do know is Orford and Fein appear to be availble both of who i would have ahead of Long.
I guess time will tell, if/when a new half is announced but if we do not have a 6 or 7 to partner Tomkins who is superior to Long i would be very disspointed. |

| I was wondering when the old 'Long to Wigan' would finally come back
A big NO for me. We must be out of our minds to sign a 32year old scrum-half - and if this signing ever did come off (God forbid), it'd prove once and for all Wigan Warriors have never gotten out of the habit of buying 'over the hill' players.
Long will probably end up at Celtic/Salford who would be happy to offer him a 2year deal - those clubs need his experience and expertise (especially Celtic) a hell of alot more than Wigan do.

No to all 3, if we cannot lure a top class 7 under the age of 28 then i would not bother and simply go with Sam and Lulu, no more stop gap players and no more players over 30 unless they are British. |
