| In terms of props coming through the ranks Wigan have two very promising prop prospects in Tom Spencer & Greg Burke.

I'm amazed Dave Parker's got the nerve to show his face after his last classic.
Does any newspaper sub ever vet the 'exclusives' he supplies them with?

Agreed, the sort of quality I'd like to see us bring in, although he wouldn't be cheap I don't think. Surely if he leaves Wire he'll be going back to Oz?

| Practically said he's off back to Aus in a recent interview. However, if he did sign, you can understand why both King and Wire would keep it quiet till the end of the season.
Regardles, whether it be King or someone else, if Carmont is to go, we need at once new centre signing. Joel, despite being a great player is showing how difficult it is to become a great centre.

I'm unsure about Joel as a centre, he seems to be settling into the role, but whether he could be successful in the long term i'm not sure. But replacing Carrmont will be the big issue, how do you replace a player of his quality, a real class act?

| I spoke about Matt King with my mate who's a rugby league journalist at the end of the game tonight and he said he thinks he'll go back to Australia. I said that I wouldn't be hugely shocked if he wasn't loyal to Wire though and went to another superleague side though as he got a really rough time from the Wire fans in his first 12 months at the club and those memories may stick in his mind. When I mentioned that he said it jogged his memory of an interview he did with him not that long back when he said he wasn't overly complimentary of the Wire fans and said he seemed to hold back from praising them.
We'll see I suppose and being honest I think he will go back to Australia but theres nothing wrong with admitting he'd be a really good signing for us. We've always had this banter with the Wire fans that he's not as good as Carmont and in value for money terms he's not been but he's a cracking player and there wouldn't be many better replacements for Carmont then him.

Hang about. On this basis, he certainly wouldn't want to come to Wigan. Wire fans weren't the only ones slagging him off.

| I'm not in favor of signing King for a whole host of reasons. First of all being I'm still not convinced he's ever proved to be that good in SL. Also whilst he may come cheaper now, than when he originally came to these shore's, he's still going to demand a large salary. Plus he's soon to be 31. Not a good signing in my eye's.
I'd much rather see if Hull FC were willing to part with Tom Briscoe for a large cash sum. That would be money far better spent. They probably wouldn't let him go. But it's only going to a matter of time IMO, before another club, such as Wire put the feelers out for him, perhaps unsettle him some what and force FC's hand in the matter. The lads not from Hull, and as long as they continue to under achieve, he'll be a potential signing for any club who pursue his signature enough. We paid a large sum for Gleeson, paying one for Briscoe considering his age in comparison's to Gleeson's would provide tremendous value for money.

He'd expect better of his own clubs supporters though surely. He'd get dogs abuse off opposition fans regardless of form but he seemed to take the abuse off the Wire fans pretty bad with it reaching it's low point when he gave them the fingers iirc at Quins.
A rocky start if ever there was one. I know we've had plenty of players who've had rocky starts but it's never reached a low like that.

| Kings miles better on the wing than he is centre IMO. Allthough him and pat on one wing, imagine that up against Shaun Ainscough

Briscoe has hardly played centre for Hull and may be a much better winger than centre. I know a couple of Hull fans who say he has never been impressive when he has played centre. It is hardly like we need anymore wingers either if he didnt come good at centre, Richards is far better and Charnley is looking as good as Briscoe in that position.

With Crosby and Davies to cover injuries and Hock to play there if we are desperately unlucky with injuries. Not to mention players like Greg Burke etc in the reserves. I would rather give Eamon O'Carroll an extra year than sign Griffin. I know Eamons not had the best luck with injuries but if we can get it sorted and get him on a cheap contract next year he will be very useful.'"
Agree entirely. Front row is one place where we don't need reinforcements. I'm interested to see who drops out when Fielden is fit, if anyone actually does

Very difficult situation to be in. Carmont is excellent, he's classy, experienced and knows the role like the back of his hand, over the years has formed an excellent partnership with Pat.
Probably an overseas signing as there seems to be a lack of available centres who are worth the cap space.
Then you need to look at who's available and for what price, personally I liked the idea of Matt Cooper, he seemed to tick all the boxes but he's basically ruled out coming to SL outlining his intention to be a one club man-fair play to him.
Hopefully IL has something interesting in process, a shock we all don't see coming, I'm surprised Senior's names not been mentioned, his off contract next year. (Not that I'm suggesting we should look at him!)

| Don't go bonkers at me for this, but - what about Pat going to left centre with Ryan King to the 5 shirt.
I know full well that it didn't work at centre for Pat when he first arrived but he was shifted to right centre not left. He is also used to SL and the Wigan way of playing now and I think he would do a very good job there.
Ryan King has to be given his chance soon and that might be a possibility.
The potential is there for the partnership of Richards and King to be a try and points machine!

Just out of curiosity what makes you think he'd make a good centre?
IMO he is not fast enough and not clever enough to play centre.
He is a battering ram, get him either at SR or prop running onto Finches short passes and he will be immense.
