In a recent interview, writers and producers Matthew Graham & Tony Jordan expressed their disappointment at having 'looked over' Leigh as a suitable setting for their hugely successful BBC TV drama 'Life on Mars' starring John Simm and Phillip Glennister set in 1973.

Although successful, the drama overspent considerably and Jordan claimed 'Looking back we could have saved millions setting the show in Leigh, savings would have been made within the props and costume departments'.

"We spent needlessly when the authenticity that we were looking for was already available and on show in Leigh" Jordan added with regret.

Some of the comments from the leythers (01942, WN7) on here are comedy gold. Next time you get paid, if you work, no doubt it's at the British heart foundation or a butchers stall (because that's all there is in Leigh) just remember, all that HARD EARNED TAX is going towards our lovely new shopping centre to replace the galleries. But don't ever say we don't give you anything, last year, we donated wigans Christmas lights from 1976 to you and even let you have your very own nandos!!!
