| Quote ="thepriestman85"Jerome Ropati at 24 has to be one of our top targets imo. Already a very good player who should go well in SL.
I'd still take Lynch over all the other available props still. His work rate mixed with good hard yards is exactly what we need. Fielden works hard but doesn't cover the yards Lynch does and it's defo something we are missing. I honestly can’t see the point in signing Petro at the age he’s at. Can’t see him getting more than a two year deal meaning we would lose Fielden next year and then Petro the year after that. Not a good situation at all at least Lynch could give us three/four years of service.'"
Next year if we brought in Petro/Fitzgibbon on 2 year deals we would have a front line of.
Petro/Fitz
Fielden
Feka
Prescott/O'Carroll
The year after that we would be in poll position to sign LMS with the wages we are paying Fielden, which would give us
Petro/Fitz
LMS
Feka
Prescott/O'Carroll
The year after that hopefully we could go with
Prescott
LMS
Feka
O'Carroll
Davis as cover
2 years is all we need out of a top class Prop, Lynch to me although an excellent player does not complete the ballance of the front row, we would still lack a leader/enforcer upfront which i feel is a major issue. Fitzgibbon or Petro would bring everything Lynch does to the party and that extra attribute. In an ideal world we would replace Fielden with Lynch but that is not going to happen due to having Fielden contracted till the end of next season.

| was reading an interesting article about coley the other day. they interviewed one of his former coaches, might even have been the bloke who first spotted him, who was saying that coley would be better at second row.
he said that coley had great ball skills and had a great offload but that he was being used as a battering ram at wigan (like most modern day props according to the coach) and was therefore largely ineffective.
he also said that coley probably stayed at salford too long.
any thoughts?

| Taylor from the Bronco's would be an awesome buy if we could, he's a young prop and had a big game against the Storm last week.
Commentator's said somethin along the lines of:
Jeez, if he's a good young kid now how good is he going to be when he's a man?

Don't get me wrong Petro has been, and still is, one of my favourite props ever and although he had a good world cup and a great SOO I still think he’s a ‘fading force in the game’ and not someone we should be looking at. He’ll defiantly bring leadership to the front row but I still don’t he’s the guy for us. Is there no one who has just come into their prime now Webb would have been perfect last season and we missed out big time there.
What do you think about Ropati btw?

I get confused to be honest with the Ropati clan, is he the centre, looks a little chubby?
If so from what i have seen he is a very good player, strikes me as a bit unorthadox and prone to the odd brain fart but his style keeps the opposition guessing, he was a stand out performer for the Warriors last year. He would be my second target behind Soliola but i have a feeling Soliola is nailed on for Leeds for 2010.

Coley will not be on peenuts, no less than around the 80k mark and by all accounts TL earns a good wage as well.

Agree but do not think he is off contract till 2011.
Trevor Thurling of the Raiders would be perfect but again not off contract this year.

Trevor Thurling would be a brilliant signing.
I would go as far as signing up now for the 2011 season. Could you imagine him and Hock starting at Second row thats some serious impact

Id play him as a Prop but him being comfortable in either position gives us options. The lad would run through a brick wall to fight a grizzly bear if his coach told him to.
Enforcer, workhorse and a very good player. Perfect.

| I love the idea of many of the names mentioned playing at Wigan, but I do still have this leaning towards UK players. And firstly UK Wigan players.
Please please if we are going to sign an aussie, let it be a truly good player, someone who will fulfill his contract, play for the club and help out the younger players. A true professional who is good enough in all areas.

| Luke Bailey, Andy Lynch would be my first 2 prop options. Petero would be fantastic on the field and as a leader but we would get 2 years at most out of him and he would also take up a big chunk of the cap.
Soliola, Ropati and Reddy stand out as possible centres. Soliola being the ideal, he would be good for Amos especially having already played with him at the Roosters. Ropati is good but when you have Manu Vatuvei as your winger its hard not to look good. Not seen that much of Reddy to really comment. Would he be worth a pop? Played on the wing so far this season for the Eels but he can play centre can't he?
I can see Tommy staying at 7 for at least one more season. Very unlikely we'll get Dobson this season and nobody else stands out and I agree that we need a stable half back partnership. I wouldn't be complaining if we got Lockyer or Orford to allow Tommy to move to 9 and wait for Dobson
There only Aussie options apart from Lynch though

Why would getting 2 years out of him be a problem? I cannot understand why signing a Prop for 2 years would really be an issue.

Wouldn't say its a problem just something you would rather be without
If we get him for 2 years we will possibly lose 3 props in 2 seasons (Feka, Fielden, Petero)
When he goes in 2 years we would also have a handful to replace him and all he adds to the squad as well as replacing other props and other positions
His salary would be another issue for me as well
BUT with our recent recruitment record I wouldn't be upset if we signed him

There are certain positions where i would not look to sign players for less than 3 years Prop is not one of them. Feka still has a good few years in him, not sure how old he is but expect him to have 4 years after this maybe 5. We also have Prescott and O'Carroll for continuity purposes, not that i think it is too crucial to have continuity up front.
If a player like Petro who has everything we need and is still a world class forward with plenty left in the tank in the NRL never mind SL i would be very concerned if he was not a top target, wages may be an issue I agree but you have to pay for quality and that is what you will get with Petro. A world class fearsome opponent who the minute he walks on the field commands respect, we have not had a player like that at Wigan in god knows how long upfront it was Pongia and Smith then Faz. Its something we have dearly missed and something i do not think Lynch brings to the table regardless of his other qualities.

Your slowly bringing me round to the idea
Would still take Luke Bailey over him due to age and less wage
Tough one between him and Andy Lynch for me
Would be happy with any of the 3 though
We are desperately lacking up front
