We should remember it isn't all about Wigan, other clubs are in the same boat. You can please all the people all the time.
I don't see the prob with Sunday afternoon games, I wish we had more of them. Convenient for families, finishes fairly early, what's not to like?'"
Apart from the fact that it takes almost an entire day from your weekend (at least productively)?
You have time to get up, get something to eat and maybe do a little bit of something before heading out between 12-1:00 and you're not back until tea-time.
I'd rather have every game on a Friday night - Fine for the kids (no school in the morning) and frees up the entire weekend to either go for a day out with the family or get jobs done.

| Quote ="NickyKiss"No need to risk Leuluai and Clubb should certainly be given a game off regardless of his fitness. It’s an ideal opportunity to give Smith a start and get Flower back in to the first team. I’d like to see Bourouh given a chance also. Looking ahead to next season there’s a bench spot open for a halfback/hooker and he’s a chance of grabbing it, if we get to have a look at him this year.
I’d go-
French
Manfredi Hardaker Hankinson Marshall
Smith Hastings
Byrne Powell Partington
Isa Farrell Smithies
Subs
G Burgess Flower Bullock Bourouh'"
Very young starting pack that one though. We've had that backfire on us in the past. The young guns are all good enough to be starters individually but I'd be loathe to start them all at the same time. Burgess was good coming off the bench on Sunday and I'd like to keep him in that role for the time being but maybe Flower could do the first 15 mins and then a spell at the end? Failing that, I think I'd prefer Bullock to start.

I thought Byrne was superb on Sunday and it’s probably just reward for him to start the game. I get what you’re saying but if felt the issues in the early rounds were more down to having kids starting alongside ten minute Tony and then kids coming off the bench. I’d probably ease Flower and Burgess back in, so it would be Bullock or Byrne for that last starting spot. I thought Bullock made a couple of errors on Sunday, with a knock on which lead to a penalty and him sleeping for their try. He’s a cracking player Bullock and we need him in the side but I’d like to see them give Byrne that reward of starting.

| I was surprised Clark missed out and he would be the easy replacement for Clubb but I think they see him in the impact mould so it would mean Bullock starting.

| At this time of year I think the Sunday games are positive. Not a lot to do with the family in this current weather, so to be able to go in the daytime, when it’s a bit warmer than the colder evenings is better for many. It’s all personal taste but I’m happy with Sunday’s early in the year and Friday evenings as it warms up and stays lighter longer. I was always a fan of the Sky Saturday evening kick offs and wouldn’t mind a few of those.

Agree. If I want to take my five year old grandson then Sunday games are better at this time of year. Also if I'm driving to away games then Sunday is much better for traffic and not having to drive home in the dark. Certainly the likes of Hull and Hull KR are easier for us and them on a Sunday and of course the infamous M60 - M602 road closures at night!!!!!!!

I think the slow starts are still an issue despite the good win on Sunday. Clubb being out, if that's the case, could help with this but I do think it's noticeable how much better we are when the likes of Burgess, Bullock and Clark come on. I guess you could argue that, as a tactic, it's working fine but I wouldn't necessarily relish going into Good Friday with that as a game plan. I feel we need to offer a bit more go forward in the early stages of games and I'm not sure a Byrne/Partington combination is the best one to achieve this. Partington's 'dancing feet' try at the weekend still points to him being more than just a battering ram. I also thought he passed at the line a la Lockers a bit more too which was good to see.
I'm not saying it wouldn't work for the Hull KR game but I'm not so sure we wouldn't be better utilising the, on paper, easier games to prepare for the sterner tests to come.

Horses for courses for me. I fully agree that going in to Good Friday I wouldn’t be starting with Partington and Byrne but circumstances dictate that selection at the minute IMO. I don’t think Flower will be right to start, George Burgess is probably better served playing from the bench for a couple more weeks and that would leave me with a choice of who warrants a starting shirt more out of Bullock and Byrne from Sunday and Byrne was comfortably the better performer on the day.
Going forward I’d want us to hopefully work towards getting George Burgess ready to start on Good Friday. We can’t afford to start that game back peddling against Thompson and Walmsley and I fear that is what we’ll be doing unless we throw something back at them from the off. It’s nice to have some options regardless and to be able to think about how we can build in to that game.

| Very true. Nice to have options as you say. I think Lam would prefer to start with at least one senior prop but I'm sure the young lads will do a job if selected.

| If we lose the forward battle v Saints on Good Friday we’ll be looking at a 16 point plus loss. We must start with our strongest, most experienced props which means Burgess and Flower/Clarke with Bullock, Bryne and Oli off the bench. Clubb hasn’t been anywhere near good enough and will be a hinderance v Saints. He alone could be the difference between a narrow win or a huge loss.

Friday Nights game are alright for those who do not work but if supporters want to have a proper match experience, Sunday Afternoons with a standard 3.00pm kick off are far better as supporters who do work can travel more, go for a meal or just go to pubs which all help to create a better atmosphere before, during and even after a game. For many, Friday Nights means rushing about for a home game, and having to have a day off off work or swap shifts to travel for a away game.
In all the years I have watched the game, going to a game on a Sunday Afternoon was far more important and a better experience than than Friday Night and many of the excuses we now see from some supporters especially about kids going to school. If you want to do jobs at home or go to somewhere else for a day out with the family, whats wrong with Saturday unless of course that is reserved for Town Centre Shopping or Supermarket day.
Most Football matches are played on a Saturday Afternoon and I know many football supporters who are fed up of games being switched from the traditional Saturday Afternoon with a 3.00pm kick off to other days and times to suit television.
All Super League games with the exception of those on television should be played on a Sunday Afternoon with a standard 3.00pm kick off, especially now with the traffic problems of going over the M62 in the Friday Night rush hour which has led to less away supporters travelling each way over the Pennines and lower crowds.
The problem today is that the sport is no longer about the supporters, but more about television, sponsorship, corporate dining and shopping.
