Makinson is a big loss to be fair. The whining I’ve seen from Saints fans this season about injuries has been amusing but I can’t lie and say the fact the absences are pretty much all in the backline doesn’t hurt you. You lose your goal kicker as well with Makinson.

It still doesn’t alter the fact your injury issues this season are not much to write home about. I saw a comment from a Saints fan online saying the rugby gods aren’t smiling on you. My word, I’d like to know what he’d think if you had issues like HKR currently have or the ones Leeds or Hull have faced.

Don’t worry Nicky, they will all be back for the playoffs (apart from Dodds).

Grace has ruptured his Achilles and I very much doubt we will see Percival either.

Plus Hopoate is made of biscuits so if the tea lady spills some tea on him it's a slam dunk (see what I did there?)

Key will be keeping Paasi under control when he comes on, IMO he's been their main man this season, out Walmslying Walmsley which takes some doing

K P-P and Isa in centres, everything else as you'd expect, it really is a weak spot in the squad

Only plus point for Saints that though i've been impressed with K P P when i've seen him

KPP and Isa really are way out of their depth. There’s no way Newcastle will play him in the centre surely?! He’s miles off being a capable player in that position.

Outstanding in defence, outstanding in attack. Way, way too many errors from both centres though and highlights the need for specialist positional players. I'm not going to knock anyone though. We were much, much the better side. O'Neil has to be in the squad going forward. He is dynamic and offers something different.

Lots to think about with that one. Great effort with tryline defence and again we show the ability to be ruthless with any half chance. Mike Cooper was really strong for us.

Those handling errors need to be cut right down though. When Saints get some 3/4 players back we won't get away with that, particularly as they are clearly better at winning territory.

I thought selecting Isa at left centre and KPP on the right was bizarre. Cade Cust looked well off the pace at times. Farrell's injury could be a massive blow.

Great effort from the Wigan club generally to progress as far as they have in a year.

Best team on the night won. Terrific goal line defence by Wigan and some poor defence from Saints.

It looked like Saints were trying to get all the errors out of their system in one go. Wigan are unlikely to get as much free ball again.

Smithies is a nasty piece of work. Gamesmanship from him going to ground while playing the ball without a hand on him to win the penalty. (Actually it didn’t think it was all that bad but worth making the point after all the silly comments about Myler earlier in the week.)

Cust was lucky to stay on the pitch. He clearly put his hand between Simm’s legs and lifted. Be interesting to see if the Disciplinary Panel show an interest.
