| it's a notable point.
Regardless, back to the point of:
Who are your two starting wingers and why if an out and out FB is brought in?

| This thread gets better and better it really does.
Roberts is on a four year deal and is going no where. How about instead of writing him off after 10 games of playing along side world class centres like Bailey & Goulding we try something different?
How about we;
A-Get a good centre who actually plays like a centre should? One pass was given to Roberts on Friday in a try scoring position and guess what he finished it perfectly going in low at the corner a proper wingers try.
B-Actually use his side of the field as the majority of our play goes towards Carmont. It's a recipe for disaster as if you manage to contain Carmont then you've practically ended our chances of scoring!
C-Work on the flaws in his game & build his confidence up! It's amazing what would happen if we had a coach who instead of managed a team actually spent time developing the players by coaching them! It's easy to knock a player or drop him but you'd get lots more back if you worked with him!
We have to work with the players weāve got like it or not and try to improve them unless they have suddenly become bad players over night? No one is saying we are a GF winning team yet but this team is a Hell of a lot better than the level it is currently playing at.

| It's pretty obvious that Roberts' confidence is pretty low, so he needs a bit of time and a bit of support. Richards didn't exactly have a prosperous first season did he? You've got to feel sorry for Roberts because he's getting no service whatsoever. It was the same for Calderwood...

Who do you think has had a better attitude? Richards/Roberts or Ainscough/Roberts?
No contest. Richards and Ainscough are the first two choice wingers IMO.'"
I agree with your sentiments that standards should be raised at Wigan and there should be a ruthlessness employed to meet those standards.
However Amos Roberts is a proven, classy winger. I'm a big fan of his and although he's not set the world on fire, there's not doubt in my mind that all he needs are two things - time and a good centre.
The try he scored against Huddersfield would not have been scored by Colbon, Calderwood or Richards for that matter. That's what he does best and I look forward to him doing it more regularly at Wigan.
I see Richards, Ainscough and Roberts as the long term back three at Wigan.

| Amos is so proven and classy that his former club would sooner show him the door than re-new his contract.
Here we go again rating players off past performances. Nearly 10 games in and not one good performance from him.
And still none on here has named they're two starting wingers for our team.

Like it or not, he is proven - in a much tougher league than ours.
Our two starting wingers: Roberts and Ainscough. Richards is now at full-back. Especially if Mathers goes to Warrington.

| But we play in the SL not the NRL, and nearly 10 games in and nothing.
Need to be tougher with these players. This is half the problem.
Richards is no FB, would be better on the wing.

Roberts and Ainscough, Pat at FB. The two best wingers at Wigan are without doubt, the two aussies..
On current form yes Roberts isn't playing as well as Ainscough, but Ainscough is far too raw to win titles with. Amos Roberts outside a decent centre is first class, simple as.

| Simple is it? Or just wishful thinking? Don't be so confident with predictions. I was excited with his arrival but I'm watching him live game after game, and i see a lack of effort and nothing special.
Just because a player does well in the NRL doesn't mean he's gonna do well over here.

You really aren't getting this are you......
Regardless of what your opinion is of him is the facts are;
-Heās a proven try scorer. Or has he turned into a bad player in two months?
-Heās on a four year deal at Wigan and he aināt going anywhere mate so talk of a new FB and who is our best winger is worthless and a waste of time
Like I and others have said before itās fine producing fancy lists saying ālets be realisticā Hansen, OāCarroll etc are over rated and we need this position filling and this player should be let go cause itās not going to happen. WE HAVE TO WORK WITH THE PLAYERS WEāVE GOT. The players weāve got are better than they are currently playing and for some reason seem to be going backwards instead of forwards and it can only be due to Noble methods.

I suppose Fielden is still the world's best prop.

| Wing is very dependant on the centre. Offiah, Robinson, Dallas, they'd all look utterly pointless playing on the outside of Phil Bailey.
For the perfect example in reverse, just look at chuffing Gardner at Saints, playing on the outside of Gidley he scores plenty.
Hell, forgetting which hand they write with for a sec, if you put Ainscough outside Bailey he'd not have done a great deal so far either.

Absolutely correct.
Gidley assisted 21 of Gardners 27 tries last season.

Not wishful thinking, his try scoring record proves outside decent centres he scores tries for fun.
2000ā2003 St. George Illawarra Played-65 Tries-29
2004 Penrith Panthers P23 T23
2005ā2008 Sydney Roosters P91 T54
Following your train of thought, Richards would have been fired off early doors.

Lol perfect reply.
Is he a world class prop? No far from it
Is he better than what he currently is tho? Yes
Has he got a season and a half left? Yes
I donāt see many offers coming in for people to take him off our hands do you? So what do we do then? What is it you suggest? We can all sit around moaning about him or we can work on him in training and make him better and we can also put better players around him by replacing players who are off contract like Coley.
Roberts has four seasons left so instead of looking for the impossible option of getting rid of him as itās NOT GOING TO HAPPEN we have to bring in the right players round him to help him do his job i.e Gleeson.
Talking about getting rid of Hansen, Fielden, Roberts etc is futile as they are hear to stay we have to change the things we can change no live in a fairy tale RL land with no SC!
