| Quote ="Pie Eyed"Why ???
Because I stated the truth - That Lezignan REFUSED to play?
That's how it is.
They could have sent anyone over, to stand by their commitment, but chose not to.
Like I said, if the situation was caused externally (e.g All the flights were cancelled at such short notice that they had no option), then fine, rearrange it.
However, EVERY other team managed to sort itself out (full- or part-time made no difference to anyone else), whereas Lezignan took a HUGE gamble that didn't pay off.
As a result, they should forfeit.'"
Who else were in a similar situation?
They couldn't make it due to work commitments, then I expect the short time they had to secure a coach made it impossible.
Salford went on a 27hr coach trip, and they are a full time professional outfit.
Leigh, managed to secure a bus and make it.
Toulouse play in the UK anyway, im not sure of their player status, but they must have understanding jobs to say the least.
But hell, lets kick them out. That makes sense when a natural disaster is causing chaos to the country/continent as a whole.

| Quote ="Pie Eyed"Yes - If the circumstances are self-imposed.
In this case, Lezignan refused to make alternative arrangements to circumvent a rpoblem that was all but guaranteed to happen.
In the case of Wigan, they had committed to the Challenge Cup and then SUBSEQUENTLY arranged to take part in a separate, non-British event that meant that they made themselves unavailable to play.
In that case, either you send an alternate team or you forfeit.

Yes, you are.
Quote The Challenge Cup fourth-round tie between Widnes Vikings and Lezignan was postponed after the French club's flight to England was cancelled because of the volcanic ash cloud that has shut down air travel in Britain.
Lezignan were due to fly by Ryanair on Saturday morning for the tie, which was scheduled to be played at Halton Stadium at 6.00pm.
However the airline cancelled all flights until Monday and attempts to sub-charter a flight to take the team to England have proved unsuccessful.'"
Taken from Sporting Life. There flight with RyanAir was cancelled and they couldnt secure a charter flight. Given they were flying on the Saturday morning, how else would you like them to get here? Carrier pigeon? Walk? Teleport?
You say an alternative team? How would that team have got here

Questions:
1. Did they or did they not KNOW that it was highly likely that they would be unable to travel by plane?
2. Were there alternate modes of transport available (train/coach/ferry/etc.)
If the answer to both of the above is YES, yet the team refused to take advantage of the alternatives in 2. to circumvent the probability of the situation in 1. then that should not be seen as an "unfortunate set of circumstance", but as a REFUSAL TO PLAY.
If you refuse to take part in the competition, then you forfeit the right to demand to be allowed a do-over.

1. Quite possibly.
2. Quite possibly.
Now, if they were a team of FULL TIME PRO'S playing in a FULL TIME COMPETITION, then I might be inclined to agree. HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT & THEY DON'T. Thus, cannot be treated as such.
1. Did they inform the RFL & Widnes they wouldnt be able to make the game
2. If the answer to question 1 is yes, then it CANNOT be classed as a refusal to play.
Therefore, it is only fair & right that the game is rescheduled.

I'll say it one last time for the hard of thinking:
COACH !!!!!!!!!!!
The flight was NOT cancelled without them being aware that it was going to happen.
They KNEW thatall UK airports were closed for 2 or 3 days BEFORE their flight.
That is PLENTY of time to arrange alternative travel (such as a coach, leaving late Friday evening).
I'm sure that the RFL would have delayed their match for a few hours (like Toulouse) had they asked up front.
This is a simple REFUSAL to play, and should be treated as such.
Now, if you want to argue yourself blue in the face, in defence of a team that simply couldn't be ârsed, then go right ahead.
I for one will NOT be dragged in to a petty "Whelan thread mk2"

Well they would have only known that Saturday morning flights were cancelled on Friday afternoon. At that time no one knew how long the delay would be. The key point is the other three sides were flying out before the match day, so had time to re-organise. Lezignan didn't as has been stated on GMR during the phone in.

Yes, they may have known about the airports, and they may have been able to make alternative arrangements if their circumstances allowed. IF NOT, THEY WERE LEFT WITH LITTLE OPTION TO SEE IF THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FLY ON SATURDAY. If the RFL were in the loop - which they were - I really dont see why youre getting all worked up into a hissy fit.
Well, someone needs to point out, the totally ridicilous nature of your point. They refused to play because Pie Eyed says so. Not the RFL or Widnes, but a RLFans poster. Well, im sorry. How could I have been so silly but to take a global enviromental situation and the RFL/Widnes at face value over you? My apologies.
One last question - Do you not like the French?

I fancy this game to be on the BBC, along with Hudds and Wire.
I mean come on, what would you rather watch?
2 teams with about 30 supporters between them playing at a crap ground with no atmosphere, and two fairly poor teams. Constant penalties with Catalans discipline and Nobles boring rugby style of play.
OR
A local derby with plently of supporters to fill the stadium to create an electirc atmosphere. A widnes side that will be in 5th gear from the word go, against a super league topping side that will no doubt show some quality rugby league. Chance of an upset - Chance of a bit spice - Chance of a classic.
This is all according to Widnes beating the Lez's.

| With a full squad I'd fancy us to give you a decent game. Not win, mind, there is too much of a gulf and your team is one of the best going at the moment but at least put on a decent showing.
However we will not be able to put out a full squad this season, we've got one of the worst injury crises I've ever seen us go through. We're likely to have a severely depleted squad on its bare bones, so it should be a walkover unfortunately. Still, I'm sure your fans will be made welcome and our young players will be given a decent run out against the mighty wigan so that should be a great experience for them. Hope you all make the journey. Always enjoyed our games and with any luck we'll hopefully be seeing more of each other in coming seasons.
