If returning players break down then am sure the bench can cover one way or another. Cant go in to a game worrying about that otherwise you'd have two backs and two forwards on the bench everyweek which nobody does.

These are the 17 players to pick we can mix them round if we want but looking at Warrington squad they are going to be weak of the bench and is were the game will be won during the middle third of the game.

I'd hold Bateman back on the bench and play Isa from the start I think. I'd be tempted to go with Jack Wells for Nuuausala also but I think if I were Wane I'd put a rocket up his backsode and explain he either gives more this week or his place is up for grabs.

On that basis I'd go-

I never really like running with a back on the bench and with Bateman on there I think we have enough options to shuffle round should there be an issue with any member of the backline.

Put Lockers at prop so that we have four props.

I'd go with that but with Davies in for Marshall. His ability to make metres from deep is invaluable and I believe he is better under the high ball and better defender.

Not a chance in hell. I can't believe no one has pulled you up on this. For me, Lockers becomes our fourth prop and we start Bateman from the bench but that's as far as I go. FPN stays in because it's the best option, if not ideal.

It quite suddenly looks a lot healthier than the past few months.

Couldn't agree more with you re Davies who for me has been the "find " of the season.
Personally I would Wells on the bench in place of Powell.
Just hope we can hold it together particularly those returning after a long absence.

Completely concur - Marshall has done very well but the only reason Davies hasn't scored as many tries is because anything good that comes out of our attack happens when we go left.

Play Burgess at left wing and keep Davies on the right.

I disagree, lots of Marshall's tries are self made, either intercepts, long range efforts, or scoots from close. He isn't just doing walk ins from good build up play, from what I've seen so far, he is as good a finisher as anyone at the club.
Also, Davies' average gain is 8.58 metres, Marshall's average gain is 8.57 metres, so not really much of a difference at all in metres made.
As previously mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if one of Gelling, Gildart or Burgess didn't play. Burgess looked like he struggled a little bit to me, almost like he's got a knock. He doesn't seem as fast as he was. In fact, when he made that break against Hull he looked pretty slow compared to what we usually see from him.

I'm not saying it will happen, but I don't like players having nailed down spots no matter how they play, and younger lads being automatically dropped even when they are playing well. It sends out the wrong message to all concerned. Davies, Marshall and Wells have all gone really well IMO and I'd like us to look at keeping them in the side whilst they are still performing. It's even more frustrating with FPN because we saw him put in some cracking games at the back end of last season, but that was 8 months ago. Hopefully on Saturday he proves me wrong and bulldozes Simms

Sims is a flat-track bully. If FPN can't get the better of him, well...

Davies comes in and takes the pressure off his forwards and has made 30% more metres than Marshall. He also makes more tackles and misses fewer.

In truth it's not a bad problem to have, but I still worry about Marshalls defence, and the way that Wakefield winger/centre ran over him.

I tend to agree, our defence is much more of a worry than our attack at present, and I do think Davies is better in that department.

He looked pretty rapid setting up the final try for Josh Ganson v Leigh. Outpaced most of Leigh's cover defence from our 40m line so not sure if the strapping was just precautionary. We'll see on Saturday I guess.

Minichello made the tackle but I felt at the time that Burgess wasn't running freely.

He looked like he was running in treacle for that break against hull,a fit Burgess would have been out of sight and under the posts. He got caught by a veteran second rower.
Granted he looked quick on that break against Leigh but I think they had one eye on the post game celebrations.

Agreed 100%. For me the regular season looks over (although I would be more than happy to be proved wrong at the end of the season) so we need to throw our eggs into the challenge cup and that means our best players playing.

Will Hiku and Pomeroy be able to play for Wire?

I don't think either have arrived. I'm sure I read Hiku is getting here on Saturday.

But your stat of average gain is skerwered if as you say Marshall creating more and going the length of the field will drastically up his average. From an outsider I really like Davies, seems to get little chance in attack which may come now Gelling is back. But his work out of the back is superb. Came from John himself too last week he would be starting on the bench. Good luck hope to see you go through

Davies is a workaholic and solid as a rock in defence. He's a good finisher and backs himself to take on the outside which is refreshing to see. I must admit though I've been really impressed with Marshall, I've always rated him highly from his days in the 19's. He's a bit more of a natural rugby player for me with some skill with the ball and he's a great talker. He's a natural leader imo. Last week at Leigh he gave Joel Tomkins a telling off and told him to get away from the ref when he was moaning at him. That takes some confidence and guts!

To pick between them is nigh on impossible. To think they're 3rd and 4th choice when everyone is fit is incredible! You could argue our best winger is still injured!
