I wouldn't exactly call Tomkins the boy who cried wolf, I would refer to him as the guy who gets targeted & smashed around every week, and just highlights the stick he gets. After all Breiers has been doing it for years, i remember being on here when KFC swung at him, from the wolves fans you had thought he had briers in a arm bar for 5mins.

| Hardly surprising, Tomkins did the same to KC last season. Respect for defenceless opposition players' joints isn't high on the agenda at Wigan.
Completely unnecessary and dangerous play from a player that increasingly seems to be a complete sh*thouse.

| I'm sure the point Of this standin leg thing is supposed to be if they're on one leg not two and it's supposed to be attacking the knee and he tackled the thigh. if this sort of going soft carries on in rugby we will end up losing all our fans to football.

Unnecessary?
If Clarkson is being tackled by two defenders around his upper body yet he is still pumping his legs and making yards, what do you expect the third defender ie Lima to do?
There was no standing leg, he was still running and that's what it boils down to.

| I don’t agree with this third man in the tackle going aggressive at all. If you’ve ever had a normal rugby tackle, then you know that it doesn’t hurt very much – even the big hits because the adrenalin just takes you through the whole game.
PS - nice try mods

There's no point debating with them. They're running sh*t-scared.
Once again the rules have been changed to try to hamper Wigan. This time we're not allowed to tackle around the legs. I wonder if the Hetherington facsimiles at the RFL have any idea what a can of worms they may have opened.
But it doesn't surprise me that a Saints fan is whingeing. It was one of their players (a cheap-shot merchant from way back) who set the precedent for complaining to the referee during a match that one of the big, bad Wiganers had fouled him, and actually got listened to.
Since then, every chav in the game - from Briers to the entire Leeds team - have tried the same trick.
Reminds me of a Premiership game, against Cas I think, during Wigan got constantly penalised, had no protection whatever from the referee, had players seriously injured and then went to Brisbane understrength, and still beat the best team in the world.
The RFL and their cronies are a joke. But that's all they are.

| Apparently Silverwood binned Shenton for the same thing last week. Didn't get a ban though. Haven't seen it so don't know what it was like in comparison to Lima's last night but it was deemed to be "sin bin sufficient"

'i before e except after c', another thing we teach our children at a young age. I was explaining why Silverspud had ignored Cross' hit on Tomkins not getting into a slanging match about players.

Lima in dodgy tackling technique shocker! It's all an anti Wigan agenda squealls the Gormless One.
Get a grip sadboy. It was a deliberate cheapshot 3rd man into the tackle attempt to attack the knee joint. With [url=http://www.therfl.co.uk/disciplinary/item?1304previous[/url from last season, it looks like a deliberate and accepted play that your coach has brought with him from Oz.
What goes round comes around in the world of Rugby League. See ratboy for confirmation.
In the meantime, to all the normal Pie People who had a great ending to their evening, I hope you had a safe journey back over t'moors, and we'll see you in a couple of months.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for one of you lot to actually succeed in taking young Sam out of a match. Loads of attempts are made, but thus far they've all failed laughably - and he's what, about 5 stone wet through. Your tough guys are really scary. Honest.

It was the same in that Shenton went in third man to the side of his leg when it was in a standing position but Shenton wasn't quite as forceful. Still, since apparently the RFL is now targetting dangerous play with sinbins, it's a good idea not to practice dangerous tackles, and driving in hard to the side of a player's leg when in a standing position is a career-threatening move. I doubt Lima will get a ban for it. The RFL judged Shenton as sin bin sufficient, so that should be the case with Lima also.

Exactly what I've said to my friends. It's no wonder we're 3 steps behind the Australians when we let our skillful players get mugged every week. Burrows gets flattened each too.
If Tomkins turned round and said "Actually I'm off to Union. I won't get assaulted each week and they'll pay me three times more" I don't think anyone could fault him.

| must admit, i'd support wire, saints etc before leeds and not due to the north west link.
leeds are a bunch of whingers and if they concentrated on their game they'd probably be looking a lot better and would have done over the last year or two as well.
which makes our point even more sweeter when i at first thought we were staring down the barrel of an embarrassing defeat.
on the whole though, the game is trying to protect players quite rightly as this is the modern way in business, sport or whatever. but at the cost of the qualities of the game, well, it's looking a bit ridiculous isn't it.

| As a neutral i thought at first it looked really bad last night, then after a replay or two its not that bad BUT its been highlighted that those kind of tackles are being looked closely and will be dealt with,Lima seemed to go in as 3rd man a lot last night so its maybe a case fo rthe coach to tell him to keep it higher and stop the players momentum.
I noticed on the Leeds forums that they are also moaning about Carmont on Haraki, but for me theres nowt in that one no intent or malice just accidental contact that happened to catch him right on the nose

definitely no intent on carmonts part, just an unlucky clash. he took it on the chin (nose!) and played on. no harm done and part and parcel for the game.

| I believe 'dangerous contact' includes grapple tackles. Would Bailey's stranglehold on Farrell be classed as a grapple? There is no question about intent in that one.

What is so hard to understand...Lima drove his shoulder into an already held players legs, he makes no attempt whatsoever to make a tackle with his arms (as shown in that freeze frame he's dropped his "tackling" arm to drive in with the shoulder) - there is only one outcome if his technique (I shan't call it a tackle) had come off and that is a very very serious knee or leg injury.
As someone said on the VT, Lima could really have done pretty much anything else and it would have resulted in a completed dominant tackle without a penalty
It doesn't matter if Clarkson's leg is standing or if the first contact is above the knee - the intent was to cause injury and there is no need for that in the game. It was an absolutely cowardly attack.
