| Quote ="Pie Eyed"I can honestly say that he would not be mine - Certainly not my first choice anyway.
I'd sooner have an NRL assistant, than somebody who has never coached in SL at any level, and has been out of the game for several years altogether.
Add to that the money that would be required to tempt him away from his son (in London), his Guiness Premieship job AND his job at Wales RU.
Admittedly, he will motivate the players - But who on here can HONESTLY say that they know that Shaun Edwards can coach SL rugby ???
He's more of a risk IMO than either Wane or McGuire, through a simple lack of RL coaching experience.'"
Who knows Wane can coach SL rugby - his coaches the junior players but he is seemingly in the frame for the job.
Edward has always been a student of the games he is involved in. He had no coaching experience in RU either yet his rise has been pretty meteoric there. He watches SL and no doubt the NRL games and I reckon it would take him an off-season to be up to speed. So I think this lack of coaching experiences notion completely ignores how he goes about things.
As to money there is no salary cap for coaches so what he gets paid is lirrelevant unless of course IL would not pay the going rate for a person who could command a high wage. Which he might not if he runs the club as a business and that business can't afford it. You tend to get what you pay for and miss out on the best if you won's spend the money.
It is pretty academic though as Edwards seems happy enough in RU.

| Edwards won't come back to Wigan yet.
There are two possible scenarios that would, maybe will bring him back to Wigan,
One is his son moves onto Uni, the second if anything happened to one of his parents,
Shaun is very much a family man,
Also RU can and does pay him far more than Wigan RL ever could.

Im sure Edwards will still want to go far in union , the top england job , you can already tell he's worked on his accent. His son is still young isnt he , so you are looking at at about 8/9 years till he comes back to wigan

| I think Edwards will see it as his destiny to one day coach Wigan but whilst he's young and making huge money in Union he's not going to give that up.
I think he's be every single Wigan fans first choice but we may have to wait a good while yet.

They still weren't talking then. They were like an old married couple with their kids with Lenagan saying to Lockyer "could you tell Noble to pass me the salt" and Noble replaying to Lockyer "could you tell Lenagan to get it himself the lazy git".
Childish i reckon.

| Surely it's more a case of has Wane got the right coaching credentials to take the club forward and onto the next level? Yes he's done a great job with the junior set-up, is he the right man for the 1st team, I don't think so.
Will he get the job? Possibly, it really feels like he won't be our number one choice, not because our 1st choice isn't available but because we haven't got the money to pay for him or have the ability to find the money to pay for whoever our 1st choice is. Ultimately it's down to £'s and I don't think we've got it to spend.

| Thnx for that AJ, well that certainly adds another twist to the story but then again it wouldn't be the first time a coach hasn't informed his club of the situation, just look at are own club, Noble doesn't really know for definite whether he's coming or going due to poor communication.
Plus McGuire may have been told to keep it under wraps by Lenegan until he's given the go ahead to make it public.

So you're conclusion that, if Wigan promote Shaun Wane it's a sign that we've failed to get someone good, and that we fans will be kept in the dark about the truth and fed a pack of lies, is based entirely on a vague statement from the Storm boss that Mike McGuire may still be at Melbourne next year?
That's negative spin by any standards.
Wigan not getting Michael McGuire is not necessarily a sign that we've messed up. We know there are issues regarding McGuire's visa. There may also be issues regarding unrealistic wage demands. Suppose we were never actually in for McGuire? As far as I'm aware, we've never formally identified him as a target. Rumourists have, but by the same token rumourists have mentioned that we were after promoting Shaun Wane. And that story was doing the rounds long before the McGuire one was.
Lots of folk are very, very impressed with Shaun Wane's coaching skills, but why let that reality get in the way of another big whinge?
Personally, I'd prefer McGuire to Shaun Wane. But I rate Wane pretty highly. I certainly wouldn't bracket myself with this predictable bunch of posters who suddenly - for some mysterious reason - are having grave doubts about him.
