Its that mentality that worries me about Warrington. Like I said the reason saints have been so succesful is by winning the challenge cup but then kicking on for the rest of the season, they didnt just say 'oh well thats it now that'l do. Warrington cannot really be a top team with that mentality, I was shocked when I saw Lee Briers say things like that after the game. They should be looking to win the GF as well but instead they don't care if they are not in the 8.

The thing you don't understand is that I actually don't mind warrington. As I said earlier in this thread I wouldn't mind warrington being succesful, I would rather wire win trophies than saints. I am sick of seeing the same teams at the top of our game, so lets hope wire don't do a Hull.

Hull had a great few years I would take that but without the fall.

Fair point, I think Warrington need a really good league season winning all your home games (pretty much) and finishing in the top 4, then I think they could kick on.

We have finished 3rd for the last 2 years and been to 2 challenge cup finals, it's not like we have done a Bradford.

That's true, a weeding out of the squad wouldn't go a miss, with the salary cap we can't afford to carry any baggage.

Totally agree. Warrington ar stacked with quality so most coaches could come in and win silverware, because winning is part of the club culture, it just needs a bit of fine tuning to keep the machine ticking over.

Wigan on the other hand are that full of sh*t that even top coaches like Millward and Noble who filled their boots with silverware at other clubs, go to Wigan and achieve nothing. Same would have probably happened with Smith.

You may well have won the cup but it doesnt make you any of the better teams in the league. Any team can throw their all into 8 games a season and win the cup if they wanted too and not give a crap about the league.

There is a honeymoon period, and you know it. When virtually any new coach comes to a club there is a spell where they do well. I prefere to judge a coach on two things, how long the spell is, and how they manage after their team has lost a few games. Jimmy Lowes had a short good spell, then a terrible spell, he then got fired, or demoted.

Smith has had a good long spell, Sure he's lost a few games in the middle, but more down to injuries than being out-coached.

Bottom line is, whether you like it or not, Smith had a terrible world cup, it was his selection of players that made us so poor. He a light mobile pack and didn't take the players to change that system around if it went wrong. Him doing badly in the world cup does not cancel out his trophys at all. Find anywhere in my post where I suggest that.

As for winning the Challenge cup and not caring about anything else? You don't become a serious title contender by having that mentality.
