Heritage day game.
The club will selling tickets to sponsors and local businesses like they did for the quins game last year. The crowd for that was almost 19k... something we couldn't have done with a smaller stadium.
I almost expect this to be bigger and better. No doubt the crowd will hit similar heights... could be seriously huge if we are to lift the league leaders shield with a win. Our game against Bradford last year hit 17k on the final day when we lifted the league leaders shield, that was ALL in the home end. Wigan fans turning out in those numbers along with 3-4k in the North stand like at the Quins game could create one of our biggest crowds of the season.

I'm not on about Wire, and you're still missing the point. If i beat you round the head with it you'd still miss it.
Wire's ground is big enough for us as it is, EVEN THOUGH DEMAND IS OCCASIONALLY BIGGER THAN CAPACITY but i think they're making it bigger looking for other commercial ventures.
DW is too big EVEN THOUGH VERY OCCASIONALLY IT MEETS HIGH DEMAND. I'm not going to call you an idiot but i should.
Rouges, don't know mate but i'd guess a long while. Personally just from a Wire view i don't think it needs it unless the board have a secret plan to fill it every week, the only thing that excites me by it is the ground should sound better on match day.

Fact is Yed, we DO get crowds of well over 20k for certain games such as Saints and Wire, so yes, we do need a 25k stadium otherwise there would be quite a few very dissapointed people when it came to getting tickets for the Wire or Saints game.

I've seen you maths on other threads anyway OD.
It's like Warrington justifying having a 22k stadium just because we could sell it out against you, another reason i took those games out the equation.
Our attendance is roughy (without actually working it out 10.5k) now you factor in a potential 2 games v Saints and Wigan selling 22k and the average jumps up by 2 thousand.
Long and short of it, 18k is more than adequate for Wigan just because a couple of games goes above it doesn't mean it's the norm and doesn't justify saying 'we are the biggest team therfore need more than 18k'.
You're average would suggest you don't more than 18k and factoring out 2 games that go against the norm/average (meaning your usual level) all your fans would fit in our stadium.

Don't know the lowest but the highest is over 16,000. IL has spoken publicly of his aim to get average attendances towards 20,000 so I think you are yet again barking up the wrong tree HY.

Bitterness about being a smaller club? What the hell are you on about, i've even alluded to it my own posts that we are a smaller club, everyone on here will agree with you it's a partisan board, an argument ad populam doesn't mean im wrong, i expected it.
I'm not bitter, bloody hell i'm not a teenager, i like a bit of banter at times granted but this post is genuine but the trouble with sports fan (yes wire included) is the majority just refuse to be objective.
I said O'loughlin was the best player at Wigan, was ridiculed for it then low and behold few weeks later 'Madge' says the same thing BUT you won't entertain my opinion (not you personally OD)

Yes and yes, i'm happy because the sound will be enclosed but to expand when we only fill it twice seems odd, i can only conclude they are looking at other ventures beyond SL as to the reason for expansion otherwise it just seems to be a waste of money. |

I don't think it's as black and white as that. Why would the club deliberately decide not to have the chance of attracting attendances of around 20,000 when they know the club is capable of that. I know they are rare occasions but the goal will be to constantly increase average attendances, particularly because it will increase interest from sponsors. The current average is 15-16,000 and so the next goal is to get an average of around 18,000 (and then up to 20,000). If the ground only held 18,000 then that wouldn't really be possible because you won't sell out week in week out and larger attendances are needed to reach that figure.
A ground of 18,000 capacity wouldn't be big enough because it would prevent the marketing team from having any ambition. Saints games would lose money on ticket sales as would games against Warrington, the 'Big One' games and potentially the other marketing ideas such as the St George's day game and the Heritage game. |

So by your logic, are Warrington more succesful because you are nearer to filling your ground each home game!! You try to justify yourself earlier in the piece by dropping our "bigger" games, and the "BIG ONE" because they don't fit your argument. But it's ok for you to justify a bigger ground for others because you say it could be used for other events. Perhaps if your marketing team worked as hard as ours do, you too could justify a bigger stadium.
We have a bigger stadium.. It holds other events... To my mind it would be silly for Wigan to have a stadium smaller than 20,000, whatever your bizzare logic tells you. |
