Not sure, I think his days were numbered as soon as Nobby came in though.

Kind of agree with this.
He knew what he was doing, and knew the risks of his career ect. Maybe the ban should be greater, because people have been banned previously for drug use, and it obviously isn't putting the fear in players now to not use them. Evidence = Gareth Hock.
Shame really.

| Quote ="Pie Eyed"Depends on the test.
Use the hair follicle test and any residue will be visible for as long as the hair has been growing - Weeks or even months.
Yes, you can "beat" the test with a special shampoo, but that will only cover your tracks for 8 hours.
Therefore, you get them all in early one morning, then do your training, have lunch, have an extra training/swimming/weights session in the afternoon, and after 9 to 10 hours, you test them.
For those that shave their heads (whether to get around the test or not), pubes, leg-hairs, moustaches all carry the same results.
Intrusive - Maybe
Necessary - Definitely
Lenagan should make this happen, as the ONLY players that would not want to be tested are those with something to hide.
If the players have any integrity as a group, they should offer to be tested in this way, to prove that they have nothing to hide.'"
To really understand how long does cocaine stay in your system, consider the following facts
•Cocaine is expected to be present in the body for 72 hours since its intake
•Cocaine is expected to be detected in your urine for 1-3 days since its intake provided the intake is only once
•Habituated use of cocaine results in traces of cocaine being detected in urine for up to 12 weeks.
•Cocaine is said to be retained in your hair for a period of 3 months since its intake.
•There are also reports available that suggest the presence of cocaine for a time frame of 25 years since its intake.

| I know this may end up in the Gareth Hock Thread but I didn't want it to get lost.
If he is found guilty and banned, then subsequently sacked, Can he go over to Australia and play in the NRL or would a ban see him banned from the sport completely ?

Perhaps a random drugs test (providing its ok with their contracts) should be carried out. Not only at Wigan, but all super league clubs.
That way unless players are stupid and want to lose their career, they wont take anything, because they will be in fear of getting caught?

I think he would be banned. Wendell Sailor was banned for coke and couldn't play for St George until that ban expired. And that was from Rah Rah.

Too many sportsmen and women now take drugs either recreational or sports enhancing and get a 2 year ban. Its no longer a real deterent to anyone else. Even if a person misses a test without a good reason then it should be zero tolerance.
Ive a feeling in the sporting world that the drugs problem is as wide as some of the experts are fearing. I also dont buy into i did not know what was in it or i did not know it had that ingridient. All clubs have doctors and medical access and also most people in the country have access to internet to do research.
Hes let a lot of people down. Hes one of the great SL talent of the last 2-3 seasons on his day could win a game. But for him now to just have a 2 year break and then comeback is wrong. According to the rules he will get 2 year max if found guilty. The rule for me need changing. Ive had enough of give them one more chance.
Its time sports world wide did this but i cant see the sponsors or marketing people involved with sport willing to let it happen. So many athletes get caught and are allowed to come back. Its not working and this is what will hit Hock the worst if he gets a 2 year ban.
No more SL wages he will have to either work on mimimum wage or get state benefits if he does not have enough savings.
Bloody Idiot and a waste of a talent.

Why should he be banned for recreational drugs if his performance has not been enhanced?
What has it got to do with anybody?
Ok then, Drug test EVERBODY at work in "Normal" jobs and see how many come back positive then fire them all !

You work for a firm and you go in smelling of alchohol you can be fired. Thats gross miss conduct. And that does heppen.
So i see from your reply you agree witn people taking recreational drugs. Also its ok for Hock to take recreationa drugs without being banned as its notting to do with anyone else. Its in the anti doping rules. Take drugs get banned.
Then again its Wigan and hes a local lad. if that was Riddell youd be going mental and wanting him banned.

| Real shame for him, Wigan and England IMO. Said for a long time he's the best backrower we have in terms of the basic tools. Unfortunately he's obviously an idiot as well.
I sincerely hope Wigan stand by him in some way and that he looks to come back in 2 years. A ban under WADA rules is fair - I do not for the life of me understand this 'ban him for life' nonsense.

If he can spend the two years sorting himself out then I have no problem with him coming back to the sport, but only if he is willing to accept regular testing (which if he is clean I doubt he would have a problem with) and then if he is caught again THEN I would agree with a lifelong ban as he has had his chance to turn things around.

| It beggers belief that people on here are actually saying so what if it was for recreational use, what a disgusting attitude and does nothing for the majority of fans who are not condoning this action......drug taking is bringing the country down brinbing misery to countless thousands of families through the torture of seeing thier family members succumb to the scurge of drugs, and some paying the ultimate cost of addiction.......so to actually side swipe it as a whim is pathetic.........just hope your the hanger on glory fans and not true wigan supporters..
