Some shockers there. Dobson has been poor by his standards this season and Hill hasn't been as strong as last year. Can't help but think you've just picked obvious names here without thinking it through. As you say, simply off the top of your head.
And I'm presuming you've not seen much of Brough this season either.

| Don't think it's lockers year. He's been injured too much. If he's fully fit and on form next year he should steamroll it. Jamie peacock for me, he is the ultimate pro. Brough is good but not man of steel worthy.

Not a chance any of those deserve it ahead of Brough.
Chase? Sinfield? Dobson?
I'm thinking your winding yellow hippo up and to be fair thats no bad thing

Haha. I actually thought you were going to post something in agreement with me until I read the last bit. Almost!!
Before I get accused of derailing, I think either or Peacock or Brough would be worthy winners and if O'Loughlin hadn't missed as many games he'd probably get my vote.

True, I've only seen Brough when on TV, or when playing us, but I still think Chase and Dobson are ahead of him (their stats are roughly comparable, despite playing in much weaker sides, behind much weaker packs), and I've only seen roughly the same amount of their games. Brough brings a good kicking game, and can be elusive and quick at times, but is inconsistent and is very suspect in defence.
EDIT: I agree neither of them deserve MoS either. If I had to pick a 3rd to go with Lockers and Peacock, I'd probably pick Crabtree.

Wrong animal, apologies
We're certainly in agreement here though mate. That list makes no sense. Chase had a good month mid season, Sinfield and Dobson almost non existant, Westwood has only just turned up and so on. I can understand Charnley to a point but Wingers dont tend to get a look in.
I need a lie down.

| As the players have chosen it I can see why Brough could win it as he's the heartbeat of the Hudds side.
I hope Lockers wins it, but my money is on Brough.

| If it is just them 3, then Peacock will win it.
Just out of interest but when was the last time a MoS shortlist didn't contain Sam or Roby?

Players have already voted. They've changed the system this year so a panel of 5 consisting of:
2 x current players chosen by the Players' Union
1 x previous MoS winner
1 x "broadcast" journo
1 x written journo
decide on the shortlist and the eventual winner taking into account player views.

| Charnley deserves to be on the list as the first man to score 40 tries in the summer era, and having played well in all our big games, in contrast to Brough, who has gone missing in their 2 biggest games. It would be odd and a shame if Peacock wins it but is unavailable for England in the World Cup, but that looks the likeliest outcome to me.

Phil Clarke, Paul Sculthorpe, Jon Wilkin make up 3 of the 5 according to this weeks League Weekly. Can't remember the other 2.

| Be very surprised if Brough won it. Not that he isn't deserving.
If he did that would be just so embarrassing for McNamara that I don't think Rugby League politics will allow it.
Lockers probably missed too mnay games now to win it.
Therefore to me it will be Jamie Peacock.
If he does win it the award will be very well deserved.

With you on this Lingfield just think how many tries he would have scored with a centre who actually passes him the ball in space on occasion

| I have seen as many games possible of Leeds on sky and Peacock to me opitomises what a "Man of steel" should be. He never takes a backward step, runs his blood to water and puts himself in the thick of action even when the rest of the team are playing below par. As much as Lockers is a King pin of our team and we suffer when he isn't there, this season I just feel that Jamie Peacock has busted a gut week in week out in attack and defence and leaves the field totally drained at the end of the match. He has given every ounce of energy he has for the team.

True. His standing as chairman of the players union no doubt got him this latest gig.

| Personally, I think its a testament to how good SOL really is to make the shortlist considering how little game time he's had this year. Would love him to win it but I think Peacock will get it considering the high regard people in this sport have for his attitude and professionalism.

| Peacock for me, he's been outstanding.
However, Brough will win it, even though he's vastly over rated, Eddie has creamed himself that many times this season over him that it will be impossible not to give it him.

Agree with this from what I've seen. I thought he was shot after last season and he has totally proved me wrong. How I hope we can hold onto our front rowers until they are in their thirties....

| SOL has played 3 fewer games than Peacock and has had more actual gametime than him. When you consider how he was playing early season, particularly in marshalling a very young team to runaway league leaders, it's actually a shame that his injuries have come at the back end of the season. There's a little of the 'out of sight, out of mind' around voting time to his being seen as the lesser choice. For the first half of the season he was the best player in the league and, great player though Peacock is, there would have been no contest for who was most important to their team at that time! Having said all that, I agree that he probably won't get it this time around unless the judges take a season-long view during their deliberations. Peacock or Brough would be worthy winners in my opinion, although certainly no more so than Lockers.

| Blake Green said he thought Lockers should win but voted for Peacock because you can't pick your team mates. Michael Monaghan also said he thought lockers should win. Hope he wins, he's definitely appreciated by coaches and players a lot more than he is by fans and the media imo.
