Dobson would maybe come here later in his career but he is doing a great job at Hull KR.

We do make approaches to clubs and players lots never get out some do and some actually come off like the Gleeson one think you will find most teams do as they are always trying to strengthen there squads.

Not quite as muchas you seem to think. The players that have been singled out, have been for a reason: they are quality players, important to their respective clubs.

As was Martin Gleeson, but if you listen to the Chairman and analyse the situation the circumstances surrounding the Wolves conspired such that he was available. And its that which makes him different from all the others that are now being touted around, not the money on the table.

Well it more than you think i know we have not approached Dobson since he came available and went to Hull K.R. And after what he said when he left Wigan that he would like to come back to us then when he is available he go's for the money. Well i for one would not want him back it shows he has no passion for the club and the only reason he is over here is because he cant get in a decent side in the NRL

The Gleeson rumour was strong because it was more than just an approach.

2.He's a good player but you'll never get 100% out of a guy who doesn't want to be here
3. It was a good bit of business getting a decent amount of money for someone we were prepared to let go for nothing.
4. Richie only played well under TS so there is some potential + we need a fullback if the Reardon being released rumours are true.

Martin Gleeson was available due to circumstances, not because we offered them a deal to satisfy both parties.

Hull KR have a player who is extremely important to them, fits into their game and structure well. At this stage of the season and his contract, the club have no reason nor interest to let Wigan near him, unless we stumped up a figure that would be ludicrous.

I'm just putting things into perspective, just find it irritating how some Wigan fans believe we are a couple of factors away from being invincible, and how its easily fixed by poaching who we want.

Also irritating as this was originally meant for rumours, and now you have spend ten minutes scooting through fantasy to catch up.

I make for interesting discussion about which players we need etc.

point is you 'were' a great team due to an unfair financial advantage.
a time when you used this unfair advantage to amass a substantial amount of success.
You mock other teams because you managed to win so many trophies when you were (in essence) in a league of 1 team.

Saints were the only team that kept close to you which is why they managed to overtake you when the fields were leveled.

Given the rise of Sam Tomkins I wonder if Smith is worth keeping. He will clearly be on a decent(ish) salary,and similar to Mathers, is playing in the reserves most of the time.
Releasing him could free up cap space for another mid-season signing (perhaps the prop we so desperately need).
It also appears to be a waste of an overseas spot (because lets face it - overseas plaers are meant to be very valuable and Bailey, Smith and Roberts are not imo).
Also the signing of Gleeson means that if/when Sam needs a break, we now have enuogh cover in the halves, with Goulding/Bailey able to cover Gleeson in the centre.
Whilst I think his contract does run out at the end of this year and we would be stupid to consider renewing it) I have to ask the benefit of keeping him. His defense is a liabilty as well!
Obviously if he stays then I really want him to do well because we have seen small glimpses of his talent - but is his realistically going to get a decent run of games (not coming of the bench) to get the confidence and match practise he needs??
