| Quote ="Cruncher"I don't suppose he's on too much of a loser.
Celtic can't do any worse than get the wooden spoon, so any improvement on that will at least be an improvement. If it isn't much of an improvement, he can always cite the club as a joke outfit.
I can't help thinking that Nobby's stock has diminished while he's been at Wigan. Some fans are loyally defending him, while RL journos, eager as always to stir the crap, expressed contant bewilderment that he wasn't being kept on, but the reality is surely that most of those who know what the game's about will have recognised Wigan's many failings under his tutorship. When he was first appointed to Wigan, I bet he could have taken his pick of coaching jobs. Talk of coaching in Australia was probably quite realistic given his status. Now, I can't imagine there were many doors open to him at all. He may have taken what he can get (though, like you, I'm surprised he didn't get a sniff of the Hull job).'"
IMO he should have waited till a better job came up.
With his excellent handling of the media I’m sure he could have subversively put pressure on any underperforming coach half way through the year.
I just can’t see his appeal for Celtic regardless of how much his rep has taken a battering.
Pressure or not he could do a hell of a lot better.

| Quote ="thepriestman85"Stupid decision imo. What does he honestly hope to achieve with them?
He would have been better served taking some time off and waiting for a manager to leave during the season next season. Noble is bigger than the Celtic job
Agar will have a lot of pressure to succeed next season and that could have been an excellent job for Noble.'"
Celtic = security.
He is in a no lose situation, his reputation will not suffer if he is unable to turn them round, and even a small improvement will see him being given considerable credit.
He also has a good bit of cap space to recruit the type of player he wants, i know Winterstein has already signed up after discussions with Noble (a good month or so ago) and other will follow.
Regards Hull they do not want him, despite both him and Sharp hoping it would happen, if Agar goes they will look overseas, as most people would at the moment.

When did that happen?
Maybe the guy is just a professional who wants to straight back into the saddle. Potential wise it's one of the more exciting jobs around. He'll be given carte blanche to turn the club around from top to bottom.
Good luck to him I say.

At the time of him going to Wigan he could have had the pick of any job in SL and was looking at jobs in the NRL as well. Can this be said now?

I honestly can’t see it. If he wants a job with potential go to Widnes or Barrow and take them into SL.
I just can’t see the appeal of Celtic.
Either way good luck to him and I really do hope he’s a success as he’s a very likeable guy who did us a good service at Wigan.

At Celtic he has the opportunity to put a professional rugby league club on the sporting map. He has a whole nation as his scouting ground and maybe it's that, amongst other reasons that enticed him into accepting the offer.

If Noble went to say Barrow and won the championship with them for the next two years + the national rail SL would be stupid not to bring them up.

Be interesting to see if they're both still in their positions by the start of next season. Highly unlikely IMO they'll both be there by the middle of next season.
But any way you cut it, I doubt he's gone to Celtic because it's an exciting job. Most likely it's the only SL job he could get, which may be the same as you were saying, but I think it's a bit misrepresentative to call it one of hte most exciting jobs around.

The 'shadow' of Noble would always be cast over Macnamara if Noble was out of work and Bradford were having the same problem they were having this season.
Also although Hull might not want Noble he’d be an interesting and viable option if Agar fails again.
What about Salford as well?
There are better options out there than Celtic who I don’t think will be around in three years

I heard near enough the opposite. That Roberts was signed with Noble's full agreement.
I also heard that the decision to permanently drop Ainscough in favour of Roberts was totally Noble's decision, and that it ruffled a few feathers (Roberts having been signed partly as cover for full back) but that certain people at the club then felt they couldn't interfere with team selection.

Bloody hell, Mark Bryant and Lincoln Withers are world class now??????
Says a lot about what's an acceptable level of player ability and performance for some
Come on Brian mate....
People really really overuse the 'world class' tag these days.

I wish him the best of luck. He's going to need it, if that's his plan.
Wasn't it the Wales RU coach who boasted that any decent players emerging at Celtic would immediately be nabbed by RU? I can't see there's much scope for it working the other way, and as for pinching some older RU boys - I can't see a bunch of 15-a-side veterans coping in SL. The likes of Tommy David did it with Cardiff in another era, and it didn't even work then.

I think you're right there about the Wales RU coach. Wasn't it Graham Henry, who's now in charge of New Zealand rugby union?
I don't think Noble is daft so if it obviously isn't going to work he'll ditch the idea.
And you don't know if a certain question was out to him by a Welsh journalist. 'Would you entertain union players Mr Noble?' Easiest thing is to just say 'Yes, lad'.

In principle, I respect the notion of raiding RU. We got great talent from it in the past, though that was at a time when top Welsh players needed the money. That doesn't tend to happen now, so I suspect that, as you say, Nobby was probably thinking aloud rather than announcing a genuine campaign.
