| Quote ="Last Son of Wigan"Bosc or Dodson both would add to our 13.
Tommy is a quality hooker, outplayed Cam Smith in the WC final, but wasn't making any head way as a 7. This has to tell you something.
NZ identified the issue resulting in Tommy being a big factor in why NZ won the WC as a 9.
He's an OK SH, and a great 9. He's playing at 7 cos there's no one else. Smith has been poor and Sam's playing 6.
Poor state of affairs how people are playing certain positions cos there's no one else who can play there, similar to how Bailey was playing in the centres.'"
Couldn’t agree more
It's a major weakness and flaw in our team.
A 2nd row at Centre
A 2nd row at prop (Coley is better running wide not up the middle)
A world class 9, imo, doing an ok job at 7
That’s why getting a new SH and Prop will transform our team beyond recognition. It will give us direction and a new prop like Petro will give us grunt and a fear factor

Agreed.
One thing I noticed, could be something maybe not be was the numbering 1-13, who's given what number shirt and if they are still playing it that position.
Let me explain-
during the off season the team devises then announces the squad numbers for its team for the year. so for example you give the no.1 shirt to the player who's your first choice FB etc. At this point in the season our backs line up like this:
5 Pat
2 Amos
22 Gleeson
4 Carmont
28 Ainscough
25 Sam
7 Tommy
This is a sign of how things have needed to be drastically changed since and how much the coaching staff got it wrong with our players.
only 3 out of 7 are still in their correct position according to the number then were given.
Look at how Leeds lined up the other week
1 Webb
2 Donald
3 Smith
4 Senior
5 Hall
6 McQuire
7 Burrow
Leeds in reflection have to make no adjustments.
I'd understand if the line up was changed due to injures but its not.
1 Mathers-Sold
3 Goulding-Can't cut it
5 Richards-now having to play FB
6 Smith-can't cut it.
Hope people see my point on this one.

Couldn't agree more. In fact, when you consider TL's game time spent at hooker, it's even worse. You would be forgiven for believing we were making it up as we went along.

| Defiantly see what you mean.
It's shocking really the lack of a settled team since the start of the season isn't it!
Hopefully that will all change now esp in the backs with our back five and Tomkins remaining in the same position injuries permitting for at least the next 12 months.

| And to think some people want to play Martin Gleeson at stand off!
The more frightening statistic will be how many different people we have had playing at fullback/winger/centre and the different halfback combinations we have had this season.
Next season and for the rest of this year it should be
1. Pat Richards
2. Amos Roberts
3. Martin Gleeson
4. George Carmont
5. Sean Ainscough
6. Sam Tomkins
7. Thomas Leuluai (for the rest of this year at least)
Let us try and create some stability amongst the squad and hopefully this should see us more coherent in attack.

Bang on there mate, consistency for the rest of the season and I think we will see vast improvement (especially when we finish the season strong )
Also agree with everything you said about Dobson, he would be ideal to play alongside Sam for years to come. If we could get him that would be our backs sorted for a good while (barring Carmont)
As for Tommy moving to 9, I think this is undoubtedly his best position and I think he can be one of the most dangerous players in the league when he replaces Riddell. McIlorum should go on loan for a season and if he proves himself more worthy of a spot than Riddell or Tommy then keep him on but if not he should go especially when we have Sam Gee and Logan Tomkins also coming through the ranks. It may be harsh but what needs to be done must be done
We would just need to get 2 props (unless Fielden pulls his finger out, which if we get someone like Petero I think he could well do) Mainly we need a leader, someone who makes the oppositions smalls brown and the 2 main candidates for this have to be Luke Bailey and Petero Civonaceva. The second one for me would have to be a workhorse type prop who makes solid metres, Andy Lynch or LMS should be the targets (LMS preferably) This would give us a very good pack of forwards that would provide solid go forward for the full 80 minutes and lay that all important platform
Imagine a side of,
1. Pat Richards
2. Amos Roberts
3. Martin Gleeson
4. George Carmont
5. Shaun Ainscough
6. Sam Tomkins
7. Michael Dobson
8. Luke Bailey
9. Mark Riddell
10. Louie McCarthy Scarsbrook
11. Harrison Hansen
12. Sean O'Loughlin
13. Joel Tomkins
14. Thomas Leuluai
15. Iafeta Palaeesina
16. Gareth Hock
17. Paul Prescott
Players such as Mossop, O'Carroll, Farrell, Goulding/Pryce backing up and we have an extremely strong side capable of challenging Leeds and Stains

I'm still not 100% sure if Pats better on the wing or FB. I hope Roberts makes the wing his own but I fear he won't. I think a true FB and Richards on the wing would work better. Remember the amount of tries scored from a cross field kick for Richards?
Farrell in the reserves already looks better than Hansen. The only reason Hansen is not in the spot light is cos we have some many other issues within the team, once they're sorted he'll be the next with the question mark over him, the top tackler award last season is covering the cracks for how little he offers in other departments, I'm sick of people talking about how he runs the 'best straight lines' etc, laughable!
Not 100% convinced yet with LMS, doesn't look anything outstanding.

On paper it's very exciting and given the licenece to do so could really thrill the crowds with a mixture of pace, power and skill.
The only 2 things missing for me are a halfback who can really guide us around the park and a coach that will allow the lads to use their own sense and play some rugby.
I'm not saying sack Noble because i've always said if he had the right players at his disposal he could do a good job but he's got to take the shackles off abit.

| Stuart Fielden will be here for 2010. I think we need to wake up from the dream that he will leave us. Wow can't believe I would be saying that after 2006.
We just have to hope that someone with more to offer than Andy Coley can help take some "pressure" off him.

Pat is very solid at full back and will improve each week as he has done already. He has good support play and has experience which is a great quality to have as a full back. Yes he scored a fair few tries from cross field kicks but do you think Pat would have finished the try Amos scored against Huddersfield? No he wouldn't, we need to give Roberts time and support because I think he will be a quality player for us. He has unquestionable speed and knows where the try line is and now he has a centre by the name of Gleeson inside him we should see the best of him. He should be near enough settled now his wife and kids are over too.
Hansen is a solid player, all top teams have these, you simply can't have world class players all over the field. To say Farrell in the reserves looks better is ridiculous, how many super league games has he played again? I think the person next to break into the back row will be Mossop as he has been touted as the outstanding performer in the reserves.
LMS is a fantastic player now and will only get better with age. He will be a regular in the England side no doubt. Young, big, strong, quick, hardworking and makes solid metres. If IL could bring him to Wigan I think it prove to be one of his best ever signings.

Fielden has been nothing short of embarassing so far this year and to ever think he could re-capture the form of 5 years back is a pipe dream but he could easily get back to his preformence level of the 2nd half of last year which imo is easily enough for us to want him to stay on for 2010 and beyond.
He needs a tough leader alongside him imo who won't be afraid to kick his ar*e into gear.
Farrell would have done it without doubt.

| I can't say i know that much about Finch other then remebering how highly praised he was at the back end of last year for the Eels when he came back from injury and played superbly well according to reports.
Would he be a good signing?
Whats his style of play? direct or an organiser?

If I'm 100% honest I would prefer Danny Brough

People talk about Dobson and Brough like they're out of contract, or there's any substance in getting them out of contract.

| Fielden seems to have taken a bashing over the last few pages. I still like him and wouldn't get rid of him. He just needs some support up front. Feka is great for all 12 mins each half, Coley I'm affraid is not Wigan standard although to be fair he's bucked up a bit lately. Paul Prescott is a good young lad but needs to develop, as does Eamon O Carroll. I'd love to see an Adrain Morley type along side Fielden with Tommy at hooker. I'd take dobson back at scrum half in a shot!
