| If Brian Noble is in the departure lounge before leaving then any new signings would surely be on hold, or already sorted by his successor.
The only signings would therefore be re-signings which is what we've had with Tommy and Sam.
Any future signings will perhaps have to wait until the coaching position is finalised.
If BN is to go then IL would have his replacement lined up before he left, unless a stand in coach would be prepared to take it on a temp basis. No doubt the temp bloke would also want to be certain he will be secure under the new regime before he took on the job.
For the first time today I felt Noble will go, not by what has been said but by what hasn't.
On Sam's re-signing Noble didn't say he was looking forward to working with Sam over the coming months and years. Surely that would be a pre-requisit for any coach re-signing a player of Sam's ability.
Like I say, for the first time today I really think he'll go!
There have been other give aways but I think it's a done deal he's going.

I think we need to go all out and get THE best coach from Australia we can possibly get this season. Someone who hasnt been softened by coaching in Superleague before and had that amazing knowledge of the game that can bring on young stars like Tomkins, Ainscough and hopefully some success after too many years.

For me the circumstances we find are selves in I feel will be hampering are recruitment effort, after all who is making the decisions on whom to sign, Lenegan?
Is the new coach already calling shots on who to sign without being here? If were competing with others clubs for players such as Myler and they want to no who the coach is and speak to him about how they would fit into the clubs plans, can they?

Maybe we weren't but after missing out on him maybe thats now changed.
I doubt us getting him but theres no harm in trying and pushing both the transfer fee up and his wages if we do miss out.

Although Myler is a good player, is it really wise to throw a young half-back partnership at SL full-time? Could Myler and/or Tomkins handle that pressure of a bad game?
I know McGuire and Burrows did it, but they were guided by a vastly experienced player (memory deserts me as I cannot think of his name). If we were to sign Myler we'd need a vastly experienced half-back to nurture them both and to help mould them into a world-class half back partnership.
It's highly unlikely we'd have enough space on the cap for Myler, another class and experienced half-back and a world class prop. Therefore we stand little chance of signing Myler.

At the end of the day, it's surely more about how much money they're paying you and which club you're going to be playing for?
Noble may be a lame duck coach at present, but if the money's right (and you can be pretty sure there'll be a coach who's at least as good as Noble, if not better, at Wigan, when your first season here starts), then we're not going to look any worse a prospect than any other club.
Lots of people talk about this type uncertainty we're going through as though it doesn't afflict other clubs. Whenever a coach is changed, there's bound to be this sort of atmosphere. Very few clubs lose their coach without some kind of cross-over difficulty. Most players will have experienced something similar. I doubt it'll be a huge consideration.
In addition, I no longer buy into this Alex Murphy era folklorism about the coach being the main man when it comes to recruitment. He doubtless has a key role to play, but he doesn't sign the cheques or negotiate the Salary Cap era economics of the new contract.

McGuire and Burrow has Dunneman to help them out who shifted between hooker and halfback which is a role Leuluai could take on aswell. He isn't as experienced as Dunneman was but if we can get the experienced heads into the pack as we should I don't really see it as much of a problem.
I honestly believe as a pair Myler and Tomkins have more promise then what McGuire and Burrow ever showed. McGuire burst onto the scene abit like those 2 but Burrow was more of a slow burner.

I'd take Eastmond in a second as I know a lot of the lads who have played against or with both him and Sam rate them as the two best players of this particular generation/age group.
I know Myler is good but at Salford everything goes through him and if anything is going to be created then it’s going to be him creating it. In a way it’s an unfair advantage when comparing the players. Eastmond and Tomkins both get less game time and less ball imo so their chances of creating that spark significantly decreases but then again on the same note they are playing behind better packs and getting faster, quicker ball to work with so I guess it’s swings and roundabouts.
All I know imo is that if you put would have put either Eastmond or Tomkins in the situation Myler currently has at Salford they would look better than he currently does.
Still don’t think if Saints do sign Myler we’d even have a sniff at Tomkins as could you imagine the uproar if we signed what they’ve been calling their hottest prospect for a few seasons.

I was thinking Poching
They do have more promise, I think most RL fans in general will admit that but my concern would be their age. I'm not saying I'm against signing Myler - far from it. I'm just concerned that we'll expect the world from these two - could they deliver it?
I highly doubt Myler is coming to Wigan, he'll either be at St Helens or Warrington next season IMO.

Speaking to a mate whos a saints fan he watches the academy..Eastmond is getting increasingly peed about not playing first team every week.
If they sign Myler that could send him over the edge..they also have Smith coming back also dont they ?

| Although we mostly all dislike Warrington I can see why it would be the right choice for Myler for a number of reasons which mainly centre around Smith but still you can’t ignore what a major influence he will have in this deal
-He’s the coach who showed faith in a NL1 kid and selected him for England
-He’s the current England coach which will do Mylers Englan chances no harm (look at Sinfield he couldn’t buy a game for GB under Noble but after being Smith’s main man at Leeds he was called up and played straight away when Smith was appointed)
-Smith has experience and a good track record of developing young talent-McGuire, Burrow, Bailey, Diskin & JJB may not have received their debuts under him but they certainly took the biggest step forwards under his watch at Leeds
-The Warrington fans will love him-A current England HB who’s being touted as the next big thing. He’ll be a God there compared to having to wrestle the lime light off players like Tomkins at Wigan or Eastmond and Roby at Saints. Everyone likes to be the main man at a club and Myler will be their saviour or great hope.
-He’ll probably get more money cause lets face it Warrington pay well over the odds for players –(King anyone?)
Still I hope Saints nab him and we get Eastmond!! Happy days all round

| Saints aren't daft enough to offload Eastmond.
They'd do a Scott Moore and loan him to another club year after year before they'd ever let him go.

His deal is up end of 2010, he needs a big year next year in my opinion as Saints will probably have a few bid decisions to make on who to retain in the half back position especially if they bring in a replacement for Long.

| The fact remains that they have Pryce who is 27 and is going to be playing a bigger role in the team as the likes of Wellens get older, Cunningham, Long & Gidley leave so realistically he's gonna be around for at least 4/5 years minimum which takes up one spot and after that they've got;
Eastmond
Wheeler
Lomax
All to fit in other HB position. Wheeler may get a little game time at Centre but with Soliola coming over they are again limited with the options available.
You also have to take into consideration Scott Moore will be fighting for that bench spot when KFC retires so it's not like they can give one a run out like we do with Tomkins off the bench.
I'd love to know what one of the few Saints fans who comes on here think about each as a prospect and how they think they are going to fit into the squad over the next few years.
We may not get one of them from Saints but IL has to be looking at opportunities like this and exploring them just so we have all the bases covered.

| I am in no way advocating that sighing Eastmond is a possibility, however if it came between us signing either him or myler then I would go for Eastmond every time. The lad is just sheer class in is IMO second only to Tompkins as the greatest young player in SL. his turn of pace is frightening not to mention he is as smart as they come.
Why don’t we get Steve Mac at Bradford to sign him before sending him this way? ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif)

I'd agree, Myler for me is more of a ball player and would for me suit partnering Tomkins better than Eastmond would, but then again I'd be happy with either.
Saints would definitely have a job on there hands keeping everyone happy and accommodated were they to sign Myler.
