Dorahay came in and his methods were just so rubbish a team that had very successful methods in place just rebelled against something that was going to lead to their demise as a force in the competition.



Rubbish. Any coach who doesn't listen to the opinions of his senior pros is an idiot.

He doesn't have to act on them and the coach must retain his authority but are you seriously suggesting the players should act like sheep and do whatever they are told when it is blindingly obvious they are being told to do the wrong thing? That is what was happening under Dorahay. It's the same in any walk of life and in any job if you see things are very wrong with the way things are being run you have a responsibility to do something not meekly comply otherwise you are just as guilty as the person leading you to failure.

The Dorahay episode was an extreme case of player power but it wasn't in the slightest bit out of order IMO because Dorahay had been exposed as being totally useless.

Whether there is the same situation at Wigan now is a completely different question but back then the players prevented that team being ruined.

I also think there is also a big difference between then and now in that back then the players were acting from a position of strength and could point to their success on the field using the methods they were familiar with. They were ultimately proved right. Now while I think Noble is primarily responsible for the dross play the players are not exactly blameless either, so are not in the same position as Edwards and Hanley were and can't claim to have the same sort of moral authority.



See above but at the same time it was widely rumoured last year Noble would not listen to Barrett's suggestions. If true Noble was an idiot.

Recession /Slump/Poverty means all coaches with big contracts in 2009 will still be in employment in 2010.

Unless their contract is due to finish at the end of 2009. Like Noble's is.

Speaking from personal experience if a coach allows the position of power to shift then they deserve to go. It has cost me on one occasion a mistake i never made again, but once that respect is gone there is no winning it back.

The coach when dealing with large groups of young men has to keep a tight hold over them by whatever means he has, Millward went due to player disharmony, Kear did at Hull, Smith did at Wakefield all pretty obvious examples but i would also point towards many other occasions of clubs underperforming, and once the coach walks enthusiasm and passion kick back into place. The trick is maintaining this for your tenure as a coach the good ones do in all sports, the poor ones are quickly exposed and that respect is lost.

From simple body language and public reactions to Noble from the players i have suggested for a long time now that he does not have the confidence of the players and i genuinely feel that is the case, which is the main reason for the substandard performances.

There is an old saying if it aint broke don't fix it, our tactics are clearly broken and yet there is no visable attempts to fix them in key areas, and as someone expected to follow the coach this is not going to help the relationship.

Despite what I said before about the players needing to grow up - which I reiterate because I believe it - I agree absolutely that Noble has got something badly wrong at Wigan and that his time is basically up.

On that you're probably right. Though there is one other factor. As the season progresses, it'll cost progressively less to fire Noble off. And if Wigan lose the next three games, as many are confidently predicting, our season will have effectively ended. That in itself will cost us money.

Can the board tolerate such a thing? Who knows. A desperate kick up the team's backside may be deemed necessary.

Dont know if its been mentioned on this thread or not but theres rumours flying about that were looking to get Justin Morgan at the end of the year

Not sure at all if the rumours about Noble being sacked are correct but I do doubt it.
With his contract being up at the end of the year Ian Lenagan will want some assurance that Noble will be here next year as coach if he is to be involved in signings for next season. If that assurance is not forthcoming then IL has problems.
He won't want BN involved in signings at all and therefore the new coach will have to be appointed (officially or otherwise) in the near future. New signings are usually made in the June - Sept period. So some movement will be needed on the coaching front and soon.
I have always doubted Noble will be with us in the 2010 season and the reason would be down to him more than the club.
I thought Tony Smith would (Should) have been sacked after the World Cup shambles, Noble has to be fav to take that job!
If Noble doesn't not commit himself to staying very soon then IL has no alternative but to look for a replacement.
We could have a large slice of salary cap money available for new players for next year and signing the right players is more important than ever.
It's surely not a matter of if but when BN goes.
In spite of all the criticism I would like him to stay and win something here. He was pivotal is saving us from relegation and it would be excellent for the club and Noble if he could win a trophy.

Unless he has a set fee built into his contract for dismissial.

Frankly, I don't give a monkeys how wrong, right or indifferent a coach is.

If the players have a problem, it should be communicated via the captain to the management.

To do anything else is childish and pathetic.

Thank God no people like you were around in any conflicts we have had in the last 100 years.

Though frankly if you were, then we had firing squads to stop you from causing the deaths of many more people.
