| I may come across as a complete idiot, but i see it as
if you have two good props (Feka & Coley) who know how to hit the line and offload, your have a great 9 (Tommy) great 6/7 (Tomkins and new signing) and a great FB (new signing) in the area of the offload, you will always have a great chance of scoring or making big yards.
Fielden and Prescott/O'Carroll to bash the people they've been set to target that match. Coley and Feka to target the people they are most likely to gain the offload opportunity against, pretty basic rugby really, but it works.
Stains = Graham/Fa'asavalu - offload - Cunningham - great pass to L. Pryce/Wellens = try/big yards
Leeds = Peacock/Leuluai - offload - Diskin - great pass to Burrows - great support play off Webb/Mcguire = try/metres.
2 great props + great FB + good 6 and great 7 = great play down the middle in attack. We do not have that at all, our support play is very poor most of the time.
Fielden - Could do better in attack, but doesn't get put on his back alot, drops to knees ready for the playof the ball, great in defence.
Coley - Great leg drives, goo offload, same drops to knees for the play.
Feka - Fantastic go forward, offload, pretty slow play of the ball, quite poor in defence at times.
Prescott and O'Carroll - both average in both areas of attack and defence, but have time on their sides. But both can be match winners in games at times.

The only problem is you totally ignore the other top notch Props that are at Leeds and Saints.

| For me the problem lies with in the fact that are starters in Coley and Fielden don't compare anywhere near with Graham and Pulatua or Peacock and Leuleai, forget Paleasina and the youngsters for me on the bench there ok its the starting props that are the weakness for me when that is fixed it will make the job of the interchange props a lot easier.

| To sign an Aussie prop with a great Reputation, we'll have to spend big £££
And to bring one over from a far higher standard of game infront of their home nation fans and a great game atmosphere.
To a lower standard of game, with a very poor atmosphere at games from fans, with the added bonus of fans and press being on your back if you don't perform, would you wan to come over here? Unless you were over 30 or not up to NRL standard anymore.
Face it anyone who is NRL standard first team prop frward we dont have a hope in hell of signing them, as they've always got that chance to play State of Orgin or Oz squad and they wont give that up. Simples
Need to start looking at the AVERAGE NRL players

| What are everyones opinions on Phelps? Personally I'd keep him because if we dont we are relying on 2 things: Ainscough being able to cope with a full season in SL, and Roberts working at fullback.
At the beginning of this season i really didnt rate him at all and couldnt understand why we had offered him a contract for this year but he has really made the fullback spot his own IMO.
I think he is worth at least another year if not for that for his ability to play almost anywhere in the backline. Even if he isnt given a starting spot next year he's worth a place in the squad incase of injurys (i'd rather have him than Pryce)
Also seems the Riddell leaving at the end of the year rumour is growing by the day, his wife isnt settling in at all and wants to go back, and IL has publically come out and said we are looking for a HB, straight after re-signing Tommy, so i cant see Piggy staying TBH.
Hopefuly for 2010 we could have something like this:
Roberts
Ainscough
Gleeson
Carmont
Richards
NEW SO
Sam
Fielden
McIlorum
NEW PROP
Hock
Joel
Lockers
Feka
Hansen
Tommy
Prescott
O'Carroll
Phelps
Mossop
Farrell
Thornley
Davies
Tuson
Can see Goulding going to Salford permanently (loving it there from what i've heard) Bailey, Smith, Coley, Flanagan out, Carmont, Phelps new 1 year extensions and sign 1 HB a prop and a new coach and were sorted

| The thing i can't help wonder about our 2010 recruitment from down under is that Lenagan is now saying he's not that impressed with his original targets he had in mind when he went over this year but i thought he went over last year with 2010 in mind?
By the time the start of 2010 comes round he'll have had 18months and 2 trips down under to find some quality recruitments for us.
He really has to come up with the goods this time.

TBH I disagree. The focus should be on bringing the kids through not the overseas signings.

I agreee we have to keep alot of focus on bringing Mossop and co through over these next couple of years but we can't afford to totally focus on the future and not bother about the present.
All i'd be looking at from overseas would be a prop and if we can't get Myler a halfback. These are positions we you can't really just throw a kid in and expect them to start excelling straight away, you have to grow into them over a number of years.
We should naturally get a few younger players moving a step up the ladder anyway if you consider we'll probably bring in only 2 players with at least 3-4 leaving(if not more).

Didn't see much the other night to make me want to keep him. But, to be fair to him, he wasn't the only poor player in the Salford team.
He's going to present us with a conundrum at some point. We want a locally developed team if possible, but we also want a good team. So what do we do when it comes to re-signing Goulding? Glad I'm not having to make that decision.

I thought the other night was a big chance for him to impress Wigan and he failed to do so. He just doesn't look to have the tools to take his game on another level at centre and is a million miles behind Gleeson and Carmont at the moment.
It's between him and Pryce for 1 squad place next year imo and i'm edging towards Pryce at the minute.

That's a good point actually. Quite often, players who've been 'rejected' by a club seize the chance to put things right when they next play against them. I've frequently seen ex-Wiganers - even the poor ones - impress when they've come back to the JJB. Goulding didn't. Not sure what that means, but it suggests that his spirit isn't all it should be.
