Thought Hughes was by far our worst player last night tbh. Couple of laying on penalties which he seems to do almost every game and ran the wrong lines a couple of times which resulted in crossing penalties.
Wrt Gelling, I think he's really coming to his own now but I wish SW would decide whether he's best playing on the right or the left and let him develop a settled partnership with a winger. It seems atm that if Goulding plays then Gelling plays on the left with Burgess, but if Sarginson is picked then he gets shifted to the right. I guess if Sarg ends up at fb while Bowen and Hampshire are out we'll see
Sarginson
Charnley/Manfredi
Goudling
Gelling
Burgess
for the next few weeks anyway.

| Been outstanding since he got his chance of an extended run in the side and getting better with every game. His appetite or work is second to none and he's cut out the mistakes that he tended to make too (although I always thought they were a symptom of his not getting enough game time anyway). I remember saying on this forum early on that he reminded me of Kevin Iro and the more I see of him, the more that rings true.

I agree that Hughes was poor. He did have one barnstorming run when he hit the gap, unfortunate to have the ball stripped though.
More of that please!

The pass for the 1st Burgess try although looking simple was excellent - good centre play.'"
He worries me sometimes when there seems to be an age between putting the ball on the floor and playing it. I'm just waiting for the opposition to strike at it sometimes.

One thing that has frustrated me this season is the correct play the ball is a thing of the past these days. 95% of balls are rolled under the foot without being touched.
Only a few seasons ago this was jumped on by the refs (just like obstruction is this seasons fashion), now its completely ignored!

| Great news if true. The lad is only going to get better. He was our best back vs Trinity and is starting to show more signs he is getting comfortable with the centre role.
I see this season very much as a transitional one and think we will be a different kettle of fish next year, retaining Gelling is key to that in my opinion.

| Good, keep playing him the centres for the 1st team as well and he will only get better. Would be a good idea to get Carmont over for a couple of months to do some development working with him as well.

Pleased with this. I said this season was make or break for him and he has certainly taken his chance.

| I really like Gelling, I'm made up he's getting his chance. It does leave me wondering where this leaves Goulding though with Gelling and Sarginson seemingly nailing the centre spots.

| Apparently Goulding has signed for Hull KR. This would leave Gelling and Thornley as our centres with Sarginson covering basically anywhere in the backs/halfback

I'm not sure Goulding's future lies with Wigan to be honest. Gelling, Sarginson and Thornley are all between 3 and 5 years younger, had far less top flight experience and yet look as good or better than Goulding. I do like Goulding but he should really be noticeably better than the other three considering they are all rookies and he's had over 150 first team appearances

| You would deduce that HKR offered him more money than Wigan.
After the WCC Wane said that Wigan weren't big enough and they had to look at their recruitment.
Gelling has been re-signed, Thornley is on a long contract then Joel re-signed.
All three are massive blokes. Sarginson maybe a reserve centre more than Joel and he is quite tall. The smallest of them all, Goulding, is apparently now leaving.

My guess would be money.
Wigan may also think that now his the right time for Goulding to move on at the right price.
