We’ve been terrible but Hull KR have been inspired in defence and attack. Why have we gone fro throwing it about first half to a more structured 1 out attack when miles behind?

Not wanting to make excuses but we’ve been pulled for a few forward passes that looked fairer than Hull KR’s that didn’t get pulled

Our pack is a mess , we have no go forward and our style of play is the worst I’ve ever seen.
Hull KR , superbly led by Jordan Abdul were begrudgingly a joy to watch

I was concerned when Lam said he would rotate the squad, concerned when he announced the squad, concerned when the team was announced and really concerned after the first 10 minutes.

Terrible attitude, no go forward, no defensive nous. Arrogant and naive from Lam.

I’ve said before on the rumours thread, the biggest question mark over signings these last two years isn’t over the playing staff, it’s over the coach. I’m yet to watch us turn out a performance under Lam that’s made me believe the players are being well coached. I’d go as far as to say individuals have taken us to the current league position and we’re actually amongst the worst coached teams in the league (might well be bottom on that score).

I agree. We have scored some great tries this year, but top sides don't rely on an outstanding piece of individual play from a French or a Marshall or whoever, they build pressure, force repeat sets, and maintain field position. We have shown no sign of doing that. Those individual plays should be the icing on the cake, not what you rely on.

OK, Blame Lam for making changes, but you cannot blame a coach for the team on the field doing poor tackling, dropping passes, giving penalties away and above all going into games against bottom clubs like Salford and Hull KR etc with the same old attitude of of only having to turn up and get two easy points.

Plus, we were missing one of our star marquee signings in "six million dollar man" Supergeorge.

You can blame Lam for the players not having the right attitude when it comes to these games, that’s part of his remit.

I think you are spot on there Nicky, I have certainly not seen anything to warrant Lam being given a new contract. Shane Flanagan is still available, we should move heaven and earth to get him over.

Regarding last nights match, the team was poor as a whole but it is a constant worry when our young bucks are consistently our best performers. We badly missed Havard and Smithies last night as well as Bullock putting a dent in the defensive line. Having said that, we are asking too much for lads of 19, 20 and 21 to carry our pack week in and week out. We are paying the price for not being ruthless, we should have dispensed with the services of Clubb, Flower and Lockers sooner, we need our highly paid experienced forwards out on the paddock, playing well and educating the next generation, they are doing neither. we have let players go who are doing a better job at other clubs and stuck with the boys whose faces fit. The pluses for me were Shorrocks, together with Partington and Gildart getting a run out.

Always irritates me this point of view. You absolutely can blame a coach for that - it is his job to set the culture and make sure a team consistently approaches games with the right attitude.

Wigan look poorly coached to me and recruitment in the forwards has been very poor.

Aside from that - when Tony Smith teams have a good day they are a joy to watch.

Agree with all that bar the forward signings being poor. Guys like George Burgess and Joe Greenwood are very good players and it’s up to the coach to bring that out of them. We signed Bullock last year who is turning in to a very good prop but again a top coach would get even more out of him IMO. Mitch Clark looks an iffy signing but again there’s talent there and a better coach would get him playing better.

You’re point about us being poorly coached is absolutely spot on IMO but it’s then knocking on to how poor some players are playing rather than them being bad signings. Justin Holbrook made good players out of players like Dom Peyroux (who was struggling his backside off prior to him coming in) and LMS. If he could do that with them then a good coach should get spades more out of Greenwood/Burgess and a few others. I look at what Ian Watson has done or did do for guys like Mossop, Dudson, Josh Jones, Lolohea etc and it just shows what’s possible.

I thought KR were brilliant tbh and full value for the win but what I couldn’t understand on the night was the whole fuss over that obstruction call. French didn’t move and Linnett threw himself over like he’d been pole axed. I was totally confused as to why the commentary team thought it was such a bad call tbh.

It takes nothing away from the win though. We lost by 16 was it but it could’ve been 22 without that and it could’ve been more considering how well KR played and how poor we were.

The other factor that points to Lam for me is that we often saw unconvincing first half efforts when Waney was in charge, but seldom did we fail to see an improvement in the second half. Whereas under Lam, we have often been even worse after his half-time pep talk.
