| Quote ="Ashmeister"The player that wins it as usually played a season or 2 in super league. Just like Richard Whiting one year and James Graham the other year.
Ainscough should be no where near young super league player of the year imo, untill he sorts out his defence. Kevin Penny can score tries for fun too. However i do think Ainscough in a few years will be a excellent player. Tom Briscoe as had a all round fantastic season up to date and Richard Owen as bin fantastic.
As for Sam Tomkins. Myler as been the stand out half back from the youngsters this season. He is carrying Salford around very well and outplayed Tomkins in the Salford vs Wigan game. Infact if Eastmond can stay fit then he'll be up there aswell. Looked the more confident and dangerous of the two when Saints played Wigan imo.'"
if Ainscough was a Saints player he'd be number 1 on that list of yours on your sig and you'd calling for him to be MOS let alone YPOTY.
As for Tomkins vs Myler, Myler scored of a kick through and scored after supporting a break, yet Sam set up a try, created a 50m try on his own and scored 40m try off a mistake.
So yeah Tomkins got outplayed by Myler and Eastmond should be YPOTY cause of a kick and a drop goal

In Your Opinion, I am not saying they aren't just that we have 4 x promising HB's coming though, and that's all they are at "This Stage" Pro=mising and it isn't something we can yet start Screaming from the rooftops about!
Myler/Tomkins/Wheeler are as naturally gifted as any young half back we've come up with for many years. Thankfully we now seem to be producing halves whose games aren't based on pace and nothing else.
Don't disagree massively, I'm just saying give it time and let them get established as SL regulars 1st before we start claiming the system bringing them through is Wonderful & going to end our International drought as IMHO the same system is partly responsible for sending us backwards over the last 5/6 years.
Who are the 7/8? Not being difficult, just interested? The likes of Rooney/Horne/Brough/Brown were never as highly thought of as the young halves coming through and are just about better than average players. Pryce wasn't playing in the halves until a couple of years ago and is another player whose game is based on pace/strength rather than guile - same with Burrow/McGuire, all pace.
Whatever their game was based on is irrelevant as they WERE being trumpeted as the likely Saviours of the English game and I have already named More Halfbacks from 5/6 years ago that this applied to than what you are mentioning here!
Are you 100% sure that these 4 are going to go onto Glorious International careers? You can't be.
I'm not saying they arent but again to start Lauding the System without any Proof that it will improve us is just OTT in my opinion.
Luke Robinson is the only player who I would suggest had the full range of skills but Myler is already a better player than him at 18.
The likes of Myler/Wheeler/Tomkins are far more exciting IMO, just because of the skill set.
Don't disagree, but have they done anything yet to PROVE it?
FWIW I think it is promising as they are a different "TYPE" of Half back but again let's not jump the gun.
Add in the likes of Burgess/Graham who are genuine international props at such a young age and other top drawer prospects like Lomax/Eastmond/Ainscough/Shenton/Westerman - it's been a long time since I can remember such a glut of genuine talent.'"
For Burgess & Graham Read Morley/Peacock/Fielden!
For the rest read :- Wellens/Hodgson/R Horne/D McGuire/Rob Burrow/Sinfield/Roby/Gleeson/L Robinson/K Brown/Hock/P Cooke/L Pryce/S Wild/C Walker/K Yeaman etc etc.
At the time the Sky Brigade and many fans were thinking these players were going to improve us Internationally, Did they???
We have had exciting youngsters developing EVERY YEAR for the last 100 years.
Unfortunatley this hasn't always transposed itself onto the international scene and in some ways we have gone backwards.

| I would compare Tomkins to Danny Mcguire in that he's a runner, a line-breaker, an off the cuff player who can make something happen out of nothing.
Put alongside an organiser and a creator (which by the way Leuluai most certainly isn't) its very exciting to think of the impact Sam can have.

I watched the reserve final at Saints last year and Tomkins was a class act whereas Eastmond was dreadful. I'm sure he could have played better but he didn't seem interested. Even the Saints speccies were annoyed at him.

| Cant quite see whats so funny with my opinion on Sam Tomkins.
Ritchie Myler this season, as been the better player of the two. Eastmond on the other hand as been injured.
Hopefully Kyle is fully fit now and can enjoy the rest of the season. Starting with Murrayfield.

It's not funny it's just wrong(everyones entiltles to be wrong i may add).
Myler has been superb this year but has played every minute of every game for Salford and is in his second full season of first team rugby. Tomkins on the other hand has been playing in short bursts and is just feeling his way in to first team rugby(and doing a great job).
Due to Eastmonds lack of gametime it's hard to make a call on him as a whole but as for this season alone he shouldn't be named in the same breath as Myler or Tomkins.
In reserve team rugby i do believe Tomkins has had Eastmond in his back pocket on pretty much every occasion they've faced each other though.

To be fair, a number of those you've named have only been bigged up by their clubs supporters (Wellens/Hodgson/Sinfield/Brown/Wild/Walker), a few have had other reasons for not taking their game on (I think Yeamans injury knocked him back years, Robinson dropping to a team of lesser quality).
I think you're being harsh on the three props you name, who have all done well at international level on a fairly consistent basis, Roby did well in the last two tournaments and Gleeson has played well, as as Hock (though a touch inconsistently)
In fact the only player that really hasn't improved his game as I thought he might is McGuire.

There is no doubting Myler has been awesome this season and has probably been the better of the 2 but he has already had a full season of first team rugby and is playing 80 minutes a game in a poor team so the players around him make him look even better (not having a dig at him there just my opinion, I'd take him at Wigan in a second) whereas Sam has had a handful of games used mainly in bursts where he has been outstanding.
It was your other comments about Ainscough, if he was wearing a red V would you still give it Briscoe or Owen over him, would you F**K. Shaun has been brilliant but he does have trouble with positioning from kicks but that can be sorted out with a few hours on the training ground.
Myler outplayed Sam when Wigan played Salford? Did you go? If you did you would have recognised that Myler got on the end of a grubber and supported a break and Sam scored a fantastic solo effort and finished a breakaway. Other than that I thought they were about equal, Myler's defence was shaky that night too though.
And the Eastmond comment, the guy kicks a goal and a drop goal and suddenly he is the better player

| If the general rule (as applied by Saints fans) is that Myler is a better player than Tomkins because he plays and impresses in a Salford side that is poorer than Wigan's side, then by that reasoning none of the Saints youngsters can be any good since they play alongside better players.
Jokin apart, it is much easier for the likes of an Eastmond and Clough to look decent when they are surrounded by established players used to a degree of success.
As for Myler - great attacking player and close to Tomkins in that regard, but Sam's defence is a world better for a player of his size.
Ainy needs work and will never be good in the air due to his size - then again I'll take his current tries to games ratio in a lower table side as enough evidence that he should be contending for YPOTY.

They said that Eastmond looked the more dangerous of the 2 when we played on Maundy Thursday and tbh Eastmond did 2 things that match, kicked a goal, kicked a drop goal. Hardly looking dangerous whereas I think even you will agree Sam had a good game.
We're all entitled to our opinions but I thought that one was unfair on Sam

You would lol.
I wasn't overly impressed with Tomkins performance against us that day, considering the amount of possession you had I thought he may have created more. However it was probably his first really big match, which may have had an effect and I wouldn't say he was poor.

| Supposedly Eastmond has a big issue with his shoulders which is why Saints do not play him very often. Of the two i would say Eastmond is probably the more devastating runner but Tomkins does have organisational qualities that we have yet to see him do in a first team shirt.

| Scott Moore should be in with a very strong chance.
He only turned 21 earlier this year and has been winning MOM awards for Hudds on a pretty regular basis, and has managed to keep a test international hooker in the form of David Faiumu out of that position.
