Thaler's out of form. He's been good in many games but now is poor.
Justin Morgan was fined £4k with £2k suspended over Thaler having a poor game. Our Ben had a nightmare in the Saints/Catalan game and was poor in the Wire/Wigan fixture.
It's not what we want to see, players mouthing the ref but when they get it so very obviously wrong it tests everyone's patience.
In Aus the press and all the media would have been on Silverwood & Thaler's case and they would have been dropped.
That does not happen here, refs get a very easy ride from the media and therefore the RFL does not have to do anything.

simple. question the ref decision on a penalty, extra ten yards. do it on a try sin bin, do it again red card.

I see at least 2 game ban for fielden if found guilty and rightly so abuse of officals is part of no sport and deserves to get punished.

No, it would make the game awful. Only once the refs get the decisions correct would it make sense.

Don't agree
if the ref is right or not the decision has been made so accept it and debate it after the game.

There's plenty of room for this stuff in RL until the ref’s are brought down a peg or two. Refs ruin good games (Hull KR for example) and no matter how they perform they are backed to the hilt by Cummings and the rest of the bent bar-stewards at the RFL. Cummings audacity to come out and say Wigan need a new hooter is proof of how far they will go to hide the fact they got it wrong.

It’s no wonder players are getting increasingly frustrated with the pre Madonna’s we’ve ruining our game with a whistle.

If you accept it, say nothing and don't stand up to it then nothing will ever change. Ref's need to be brought to account the moment they make a balls up not two or three days later when the result is in the bag.

Going away from abusing the ref, I'm getting sick of the ref going to the screen for every possible chance of not giving the try. IMO the video ref should only be used to check the grounding, not going to check any obsrutcion as the ref or touches should be able to make those decisions by themselves on the spot.

I'm afraid some of you are missing the point which is has anyone ever seen a referee change a decission because a player as disagreed? I don't think so but referees are human (I know some will disagree) and it is only human nature to react to abuse you say I'm a b@st@rd and I'll be a B@ast@rd and guess who will get the 50/50 descisions?

agree with that bit but it's not the players responsibility it's up to coaches backroom staff and the RFL.

No player will ever change the mind of a ref so to moan at the ref is futile which in turn renders it pointless

That is however a separate issue from whether the referees are doing a good job. I think they are doing their best but they are a long way off what is required. The game is very fast these days and although since the early 90s a lot of work has been done to improve referees' fitness at the end of the day the game is just too quick and there's too much going on for one man to control.

The end result is player frustration but more importantly for a professional sport, frustration for the fans. A number of times recently I've come away from games feeling that the referee had as big an influence in the outcome as the teams. That doesn't mean I think they were cheating, simply that it was refereeing errors that played a big role in who won the game.

What's to be done about this? The answer's obvious, give the touch judges more power and responsibility. Don't hold your breath though, the RFL are not exactly quick at getting to grips with issues like this!

Since you've asked me this question twice now, I'll simply say that the referee ignorning the half-time hooter, so enabling the side in possession an extra play-the-ball, which led directly to a crucial try, was the closest thing to blatant cheating that I've ever seen from a referee.

Be as scornful of that opinion as you want, but I'd defy you not to feel the same thing if it had happened to your team. I'll qualify my earlier statement by adding that I don't think this one decision alone cost us the game. But it certainly changed the course of the game - dramatically so.

I simply don't believe that the referee didn't hear it. The players heard it, the crowd in that corner heard it - I know because I was one of them. By the subtle change in the referee's body-language, it looked to me as if he had quite clearly heard it. He gave play-on IMO because it was a tight game and he was under pressure, and he basically lost the plot for a minute.

Perhaps not blatant cheating because it wasn't intentional (we must give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that it wasn't intentional) - but even so there were other match officials there (or did none of them hear it either?) and a decision should have been taken to rule the try out. Let's be honest, we've all seen referees reverse their decision because of the intervention of touchjudges etc. That's all it would have taken in this instance. But no - he stood by it, and lied to cover his back. Cheating barsteward. End of.

Especially with the Borderline decisions now in Vogue, some of them behave Like a Virgin referee. Perhaps they should take a Holiday until they Get into the Groove?

Giving abuse to the ref is wrong, but the game is full of emotion and ref's need to be stronger, its too easy to put players on report and go to the big screen than give a decision.
How many times have you seen a player get a late shot or even punched blatantly (i.e Fielden / Mason), ref claimed he hasn't seen anything, touch judge does "im the ref i'll put it on report". Far too much gets dealt with after the incident ref's should get a pair and deal with it on the pitch. If Thaler was that upset about what Fielden's said he should have dealt with it on the night not hide behind that fat twit Cummings and a panel of nobobies, nearly a week later.

If the referee's are so bad, and the players can see it, can't we have some sort of system like in Tennis with the hawkeye just with the video ref, and the captain can question the obvious wrong decisions.

Other than that the touch-judges need to be cited more, I hate watching them be bloody ignored.
