| But this is the same Martinez who sent his players onto that pitch during the worst of the bad weather against the wishes of the head groundsman, and is now complaining about the state of it.

| Quote ="Wigan/Leeds Andy"Indeed.
Having read the "article", the title of this thread and a lot of the posts here bare no relation to it.
Martinez basically says the pitch is house at the moment and is obviously not going to get better with two teams playing on it from now on. The usual lazy journalism winds it up and gets the usual bites it was looking for.
The one thing Martinez says which I don't agree with is the excuse of the pitch contributing to how bad they are playing. That failing is all his own making, with his tactics, team selection and signing a couple of his mates from Swansea who are so out of their depth its embarrassing.'"
Even with 2 teams playing on it the pitch should improve soon as the grass will start growing again as we move towards March, they were seeding the surface today.

| I was wondering how long it would take them.
Balls to 'um!! They clearly know nothing, so there's no point worrying about them.

| just watched the game on canal+ and just after the second half started it showed what the groundsman were doing at half-time, i had the sound turned down but no doubt they were laying the blame.

| Looked shocking tonight but that only matches Latics preformences.
They're nothing to do with the pitch and everything to do with the manager.

| Another two points dropped tonight.
Spurs at Home on Saturday - can't see them getting anything out of that one either.

no doubt we will be getting some blame thrown our way in the coming weeks. state of the pitch getting a mention on the BBC website news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 513326.stm
Quote On a thoroughly miserable Lancashire evening which saw snow, hail and rain at various intervals, the bog of a pitch did nothing to help either side play.
Since Roberto Martinez arrived at Wigan last summer and since Owen Coyle turned up at Bolton last month, both have tried to get their teams playing passing football, but in these wretched conditions it was nigh-on impossible.'"
it's the turfs fault that football is boring
somehow, 18,000 people got conned into paying to watch a game with no goals, and only one shot on target. more money than sense some folk

| Don't care in the slightest.
As long as the surface is ok for us and we can't get screwed by lease loopholes, then I don't care. Luckily we don't have premadonnas who need a crown green bowling style pitch to play our sport.

| Could the state of the pitch be at all down to all year round useage and building in stadium somewhere called marsh green?
Anyhow saw this quote in the guardians match report and thought it would bring a smile;
Quote It was, however, a good, thoughtful gesture, even if Wigan's true affections were displayed by the faint lines that marked out the rugby league pitch.

They were giving them out in town on Tuesday. Had the mascot down near their shop (which I didn't know existed)
I walked by with my 2 kids and said your not having that rubbish
On the pitch just seen Sky News, yes it is our fault, because some d*** off sky says so

| I latics mate of mine txt me last night asking what the Warriors had done to the pitch, he seemed to be oblivious that it was already like that before the rugby started. Its funny how there are several other ground shares, between rugby league, union and football teams and yet there isnt the same sort of problems with them, Hull and Hudderfield being good examples. So why isnt there any problems with them, maybe just maybe the pitch at the DW is just terrible no matter what is played on there. If other grounds dont have the same problem, the clearly the problem isnt rugby its the pitch, not that i expect the narrown minded uneducated football loving media to understand this or do any research into it.
I think we should be the ones who are complaining, when you rent a stadium you expect a good pitch, and its a disgrace, isnt this when you call your landlord and get them to sort it out!!!!

we will leave the pitch in an excellent state for them. its nothing to do with rugby, rugby doesnt wear the grass like football does in specific areas, touchline, centre spot, goal areas etc.

| Perhaps the jounos might learn one day that the ground is built in an area of Wigan called Marsh Green.
The housing estate was built on the Green, the DW on the Marsh!
Nothing to do with the 'tics or us, just a matter of where the place is!
