TBH i can't see any of the bottom 4 clubs in SL being able to afford Hock

I've been stuck at work all day and only picked up bits of the issue and have scanned this thread, my thoughts are:

1 - if the second test is positive, he should be sacked. End of discussion, i cannot believe people are seriously saying that he should be retained. He should be dismissed for gross misconduct immediately if the second test was to be positive.

2 - IL should now bring in a drug tester and do the entire squad. Someone knew what he was doing, if there are any others they need weeding out and dealing with appropiately.

3 - What kind of lack of disclipline is in place at the club to allow this to happen.

Gareth Hock has brought shame on what was once a proud club, sacking him will regain some, not sacking him will forevermore sink our name into the dirt.

unfortunately I don't think that comes as a shock to anyone, and is why more vigorous testing is needed imo to make it so players know that if they do take drugs they will be caught.


As for the point on supporting him, IF he wants the help then I hope he is helped to get it but it has to come from him not somebody pushing him into it.

Some fair points from Kev in that article...but I do have to say it seems almost time for the inevitable "He was on drugs and needs rehab/help" to rear its ugly head again when referring to a celebrity who [imay [/ihave been caught doing recreational drugs.

They ALL turn into Amy Winehouse when they have been caught and turn it into a "problem" they need help with. Gets SOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring. They only class it as a problem when they get caught out and turn occasional (and wrong) occasional use of coke into a nightly fix of crystal meth! It's played upon way too much IMO

At the end of the day he is a drugs cheat and should be banned. No amount of cherry and white tinted gigs should change this.

And from what I have seen there is no defending him from most (if not all but I haven't read the whole thread) Wigan fans so what is your point?

The club should now test every player internally.

Ther have been rumours on this board for the past 2 years about hock and other players using coke and other recreational drugs.

The club chose to ignor this, now they should act and sack any player found to be guilty

65% is a ridiculous figure. 40% is a top heavy figure but is more about right.......A frightning number itself....but 65% out round town are not doing coke..... that suggestion is absolute bollox IMO and I go out regulary round town.

this has been the rumour for ages that hock has been on coke, and now it is confirmed. I like others hope the club start doing more internal testing to sort out this problem.

How utterly parochial insular and selfish. To lessen the embarrassment of Wigan you wouldn't care if many more were tested positive, then the whole games into disrepute and the image is knocked back years. Get a grip.

2 year ban if convicted, maybe he can come back having learned his lesson. Hopefully for his career he can, but it will not be an easy ask.

What message would be sending out to the kids of Wigan should we keep his registration? No player is bigger than any club..!!

Testing on all players (including Reserve & Academy) at all clubs every week (on random days).
No space in our sport for drugs - performance or recreational.

Cost to be split 3 ways between Sport England(UK) / RFL / Club.

The game needs to be seen to be taking action.

The club also reacted angry to reports of players being rat legged around Wigan if i remember rightly didnt Mr Leneghan kind of made out he wasnt interested unless the players were causing a problem.

Its time these so called pro sportsmen actually became pro's. There is no reason they can not have a few drinks after a game but to be smashed every weekend is unacceptable IMO. They have made the choice to be pro sportsmen,if they dont like the fact that they need to conduct themselves off the field like pro's then they need to get an ordinary job like the rest of us where on a Friday night we can forget work until Monday morning.

As mentioned previously, it's unlikely that Hock will be allowed to dabble in Union (due to an agreement with Sport UK).

Is there anything to stop Hock going to the NRL ?

a) Is there an agreement between RFL / NRL preventing this?
b) Would he be granted an Australian Visa? No crime has been comitted.
c) Vice Versa - SL clubs have not been slow in signing / attempting to sign up the dregs from Australia.

I feel quite shocked and embarassed that anyone who supports Wigan can if Hock is gulty can even think of keeping him on or want him in the future.

Our name is and has been tarnished and Wigan is better and bigger than any player. If we lose the ability to do the right and only moral thing we then loose too much.

Anybody who tarnishes or insults our name whilst employed by Wigan should and must go never to return. Once you allow standards of behaviour to slip you can never go back to the standards we want and accept we should have.
