Personally I'd put him a level down from those two - two of the most gifted players in rugby history - but a level up from Sculthorpe.
In terms though of one man's contribution to a club over an extended period of time I don't think Farrell's will ever be matched, he stands alone for me. What he did in breaking into the great Wigan side at such a young age for a forward and then in the latter part of his career carrying a mediocre side, will never be equalled.
A true legend. Best of luck to him in whatever he goes on to do.

Now where have I said anything apart from I do not believe he is Wigan through and through? Would it satisfy you if I said I thought he was 95% Wigan?

Nope - It was the handling of The Faz situation that put us over the cap. Read my post again.

| Faz was also at an academy match last season, I was talking to him.
Find this news quite interesting, I was told only yesterday morning that he is coming back to offer a coaching partnership with denis betts. The rumour mill in my head is in overdrive now,
Is this gonna be a reality or just something to fill the gap in gossip of Gleeson now its been made official

Farrell's 6 year contract (which was £1m over 6 years or £166K a season) was agreed long before we broke the salary cap that year. So the club knew well before that season what his wages were going to be so should have factored them into the equation before agreeing contracts with other players. Clearly it's the wages of other players signed [iafter[/i Farrell agreed his contract that took us over the cap.
To suggest we broke the salary cap that year because we paid a contracted player his wages on a contract agreed a few years beforehand is ridiculous. It was the clubs fault not his.

| Pure and simple, Andy farrell is the best captain I have ever seen in rugby league or any other sport. I rate him even higher than Hanley as a captain. Roy Keane was passionate at Man U but but didn't have the influence of Faz. I true legend and I'd love him to bring his pride back to Wigan.

Yes and he left in 2005 (seems much longer ago ). If the club hadn't worked out how much it was paying him by then they were worse than we all thought re the salary cap.

| A great club man and servant to Wigan RL.
The way he carried Wigan for several years can only be measured by the fact that when he left, Wigan deteriorated rapidly and to this day they still lack direction and inspiration on the pitch.

| I won't say he carried the team in 2004, but nearly all his performances when he switched to prop were absolutely awesome - hard running, hard working & just relentless for the team as was shown by the broken nose incident!

| Should go down as one of the wigan greats.
Top player, immense, if not unequalled, contribution to wigan over his career.
Hope to see him back at wigan at some point - along with his son !!

| A true Wigan legend, never failed to give 100% when wearing the Cherry and White of his beloved hometown club. Will go down in the history of Wigan and indeed rugby league as an all time great.
Had the honour of meeting him several times and he is one of the most sincere, genuine men I have ever met.
Good Luck Andy whatever you do.
Would love to see him back at Wigan though.

Not only teach Fielden and the other props but show the other players within the team how to lead a team. (Take note xiii).
I for one would love to see him back at the club in some capacity but feel that RU wages would dwarf what we would probably offer him.
Got to be my favourite player of all time just for trying to take on the whole of the saints team that year, (I think it is still on You Tube) Quality. Wish he was lining up for us on Thur, just to bang Graham.

| Great player.
You cannot blame him for taking the money at 30 and going to try out RU.
He carried the Wigan team for a long time.
When he left (injured) he freed up lots of CC space.
How any Wigan fan can say he was a "traitor" is beyond me.
Still each to their own.
