Let's hope it's a Friday night game. I can't state how much of a dislike I have for Sunday afternoon games. When we play on a Sunday there is hardly any atmosphere and it just doesn't get going.

On a slightly off topic view I'd argue the town centre pubs suffer with Sunday kick offs. I know a few bars in town get regular trade after a Friday night game and go out of their way to entice people who been to the match.

That puts us even more at the heart of the community imo.

Completely agree. Then a quick drive up to Whitehaven on the weekend for some old-fashioned biff: sod Stains & Whinos.

A good chance to give a few youngsters a crack and a desperately needed pay day for an impoverished part of Wigan. Good stuff.

Charlie is really looking forward to this clash , 90% of my relatives are Wiganers ,i spend a lot of time in Pieland , and on the Friday before the game will be attending a Sportsmans Dinner at St Judes , a good warm up , i may even sit with my Pie relatives and chauve them

That for me is a happy mix of resting players who need it, bringing back the injured guys like Mossop, Hansen, Gelling and to a lesser extent Charnley. Other than that the majority of the above have at some point been injured for at least 2 of the 10 rounds we've seen so far.

They've had plenty of rest.

To promote this game, I will be disappointed if the billboards don't have images of Pies V Lobby instead of the usual player images

I agree Friday night would be best and it is our regular slot for games. You are right about Sunday games too, always never really gets going.

It would be interesting to do survey or gather opinions of a cross section on what they days we should play home games.

The stats might prove otherwise but I feel that we get less Friday night games than we used to.

It's harder times and people pick games more carefully. I certainly think people are more readily willing to skip the smaller games. Why not really half the time they are boring as sin, poorly attended by the away fans which offers little atmosphere. From a financial POV it's crazy you pay the same for Wigan vs Saints as what you do for Wigan vs Wakefield etc as there's a massive difference in quality and on field product.

My original point was that we don't play on a Friday as often as we used to.

There are a couple of reasons for that though. One is tv, if SKY want to show our game on saturday or sunday or monday then it gets moved to accommodate that. The other is the marketing initiatives surrounding some games like the Community Day which involves touch rugby tournaments and such organised by the club so it has to be on a weekend day thus the game is on a sunday that week. Generally if the game can be on friday night it is.

You play Hull the Friday after so I reckon you'll want Friday best crowd option I reckon is Sunday afternoon .

Nethen Pemps there is no train as far as I know, the nearest train station to Leigh that runs services to Wigan is from Atherton. If any of my friends from Leigh ( I have 4 I think ) want me to get them from Leigh to Atherton I will arrange it so they can catch the train and will then return the hospitality they showed to me on my visits to Leigh.
( I am not talking about free ale though).

One was done a few years back, and Friday came out favourite by quite a way.

Sunday may be better as far as Leigh fans attending goes as that is when your games are normally played but we have been playing on friday nights for years. Our support in general don't seem to like sunday games anymore, attendances are often down on sundays and atmosphere is always flat. Friday would generate better crowd and atmosphere from our lot. Hopefully the rarity of this derby will help coax a few of the people who don't normally attend our cup ties into turning up and you lot will travel in good numbers so it will feel and sound like this derby should.

Agreed. Most of them have had a rest already. Those that haven't have two thirds of a league campaign left to get rested in.
