I kinda get what you're saying, but I can't disagree enough.
GW has two values. One that he's worth and one that Wire want to pay. If they've paid over the odds for him, then why should we be stupid enough to go to that?

I agree, but there's also a third one, the one that Wigan think he's worth. I saw one person quote that Williams had been offered £100K per season more from Wire than Wigan.
If that's the case than I wouldn't blame him at all for taking the offer, and I certainly won't blame Wigan for failing to match it.

As a Warrington fan I can’t disagree with the above.
I would love to see Williams sign for us, and if that happens I do expect us to pay significantly more than he’s actually worth. But then there is a shortage of quality half-backs and he’s both British and young enough. That means he won’t jump at the first chance because he doesn’t settle in the UK like some NRL players do, and also we’ll get the best years of his career. So if we have to pay a bit more than we would have done 5 years ago so be it.
The key to all this is whether Powell can get all the key players performing to their best each week, something that no Warrington coach has done since 2013.

It would be interesting to know which value was higher i.e did Wire go above what GW expected?
This won't be a popular opinion, but I can't disagree more with the point about GW taking Wires offer. Imo GW is the lowest of the low for this move. He's $h!t on a club that's done right by him, all to chase £££. Loyalty and legacy are dead in RL and people wonder why players get stick.
I can name you loads of players who turned down more lucrative offers to stay at their original club and became legends. SOL had opportunities to move, but stayed. Cam Smith turned down big pay options to finish his career in QLD, but didn't want to play against the Storm.
GW is an absolute grub imo.

| The other point is that allegedly in this move Austin will go to Leeds, so 2 of our rivals (although Leeds are more mid-table) are strengthened whilst we have an injury crisis.

Don't necessarily agree here. You're talking as a fan where you have a loyalty for life (as I have). For players its employment and a short career at that.
Let's try and take the emotion out of it with an alternative scenario:
You have a good career in Tech, you were employed by Microsoft in the UK and came through their apprenticeship programme giving them five good years. You then decide to have a career gap by going over to Australia for two years with the GF
After 18 months you head back to the UK as the GF is pregnant.
Once back in the UK you receive an offer back at Microsoft for £200k per year which allows you to work locally so you can be close to family and friends. The salary is a little higher than what you previously had. However you also receive a counter offer from Apple UK for £300k per year, same deal.
New start, new baby. What do you do?

It isn't the same tho.
My hypothetical career at Microsoft isn't going to cement my place in history books of tech. I'm not going to create a legacy in a regular job. That's the opportunity for these guys. Do it correctly and be the best and you'll be a Boston, Hanley, Radders etc. Which is better than "remember that GW guy who went to Wire for a bit of cash". As a son, I'd also be more proud of my old man to say "he's a Wigan all time great", than I've got a bit of bob because my old man had a decent job.
There's some things that money can't buy. Listen to Wane talk about going to Leeds (I know he was released by Wigan) and see what actually being passionate about your home town club can do.

He doesn't deserve that stick at all. It's a short career that could end the next time he is tackled. God knows what career prospects he has once he retires, and he may have a wife/kids to provide for as well. No issue at all with him signing for whoever offered the best contract, especially if the difference in offers was large.

In this instance, the company you've left is arguably not as well run as it was when you were there previously, after having been industry leaders shortly before you left

| I am bitterly disappointed it looks like he isn’t coming back to Wigan but we move on as a club. Someone else gets the opportunity to prove their worth. He’s a cracking player undoubtedly but it’s not the end of the world him not signing for us again.
If it is for money then fair play to him, it’s a short career and he should be looking to earn as much as he can. I’d do the exact same in all honesty.

No, not at all.
I'd say they went for opportunities too. All went to the dominant side of the era. The chance to really make a statement in a side the likes of which, no one had ever seen before. I have no issues with guys doing that. It's the equivalent of going to Australia and I support it and understand it when they do.
Let's also go back to your original situation...
If I worked for Microsoft and had opportunity to go to Apple in California I'd have gone. I'd have also told my misses to stick it out, especially if I was getting huge recognition for what I was doing there.
IF I had to move back and had to pick between Microsoft and a new place, lets say Facebook, I'd look at the bigger picture and not just cash. Which organisation promotes from within? Is the CEO a company life man (Radders). What about the managers above me? Have they been headhunted from other places, or given opportunities based off the good work they've done with the business? Do I have a good existing relationship with the chairman? Did he help me pursue my dreams of moving to Apple?

Or maybe it is being well run, they've looked at what they can afford to pay in the current climate, let's not forget Wigan alongside most if not all the clubs asked their playing staff to take a pay cut.
Upsetting the rest of the squad by offering someone mega money may not be the smartest move, especially when every man and his dog realises our front row is what needs strengthening before anything else.

Also...
Where has this notion somehow come about that Wire is some kind of superior club? If we've regressed since GW left then wtf has happened to Wire? We almost won a GF last year and we've lost one game in the league this year.
If he was going to Saints, I'd understand the argument but he's going to Warrington FFS.

and that is what i was referring to (in part)
That post wasn't me as an opposition fan stirring, that was based off me reading the vibe on here the last 6 -18 months, complaints about management, coaching and recruitment, you can't say i'm wrong in this instance.
