Not what i call a game breaker nor is he a dominant half. He tackles a lot but he doesn't guide the team around like a Luke Gale does for Leeds. As i said, good player yes but not worth paying over the odds for.

| Fair play to IL for sticking to his guns and knowing what GW is worth.
The guys obviously and mercenary. He'll $h!t on Wire, just like he did with us and Canberra.

| The idea he is not a match winner is nonsense.
I'm not saying he is the GOAT/Andrew Johns, but he is a bloody good player. Best half back to come out of our academy in the SL era.

Clearly it's not the 75K allowance that would count against Williams is it not ?
Clearly it's his asking value that's paid into his bank account before choosing his UK club to return to and irrespective if it was a figure that would be at full value on that clubs salary cap?
I'd hazard a guess that you would pay far more on your cap and also in salary over 3 seasons If Wigan sign an Aussie Half Back rather than should you sign Williams for 10 seasons'"
I’m not sure why you’re fixed on the £75k? Wigan have to pay him his wage and if they offered good money then it negates your comments about Wigan’s financial position. If Warrington want to pay him above market value just to get him then it’s their business but Mr Lenegan is more astute than that.

It baffles me why people focus so much on cap space. It’s a number you’re allowed to spend up to but if you don’t have the physical funds, you don’t have it. Somebody could tell me I’m only allowed to spend £10,000 a month but it would be pointless them doing that as I don’t have it.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!
The likes of Salford and Wakey probably have loads of room on the cap but they can't afford him either.
We usually work up to the cap, but with players wages not counting in full the cap becomes irrelevant and it becomes about the budget. We can probably afford the 75k on the cap but if our wagw bill then becomes 2.5m say then perhaps we can't afford that.

Only if he becomes one of our marquee players, in which case we would potentially be counting more than George's wage on the cap because we are now counting that third player in full.
I would like him back, but trust that IL will have made the correct financial decision for the club.

| I’d love George back but blow our whole wage structure out the window for him isn’t the way forward.
Warrington have got a great player but when will they learn long term sustained success in rugby league comes from investment and trust in academy prospects?

This is my argument aswell, we just throw money about all the time and it's never paid off winning us the Title. I'd be happy with Williams but i know we'll be paying him well over the odds. I'm excited for next year with Powell Coming in as he seems to get the best out of the players he's got rather than throwing money around on big named players.
And i hope he gets our youngsters game time and can develop the Academy further.

I'm not sure Lenegan is a wealthy man any more - it's certainly not how he's run the club the last few years and certainly not in comparison to the backers in Warrington.
What we pay Williams on the Salary Cap is irrelevant - and yes I believe this would be £75k a year due to his home-grown dispensation.
If we can't afford to pay him £300k+ a year (or whatever Warrington have offered him) then we can't afford it.
Any 'Aussie Half Back' signings we do make will be freebies I'm sure.

Hypothetical:
Our top 2 earner are Hastings on 300k and French on 250k, Williams comes in on 350k, yes he will only count 75k on the cap but you will lose 100k marquee dispensation on French so the signing will cost the club 175k against the cap not 75k.'"
I thought Bateman came back as a marquee?

Those were just hypothetical figures but if Hastings is a marquee player and we replace with Williams, yea we’d be 75k better off on the cap but that’s next year.

I was just making a hypothetical point, but you can replace French with Bateman, my point is our second highest earner would go from counting 75/150k against the cap to their full wage counting against the cap if we made GW our top earner.

| If its a case of simply not being able to fit his salary into the cap for next year (with other players already having agreed contracts etc...) then thats fair enough. If its a case of not paying him because we cant afford it/dont want to spend the cash then it is quite worrying
