| Wane got it right - but I still feel it is worth trying Rocky on the bench instead of Powell.

| Woeful from Hull. Average from Wigan. Williams and Smith offered very little again.
First half Hull were playing a semi opposed training run. Second half they had a bit if a dig but once again we dropped off to below average.
Only positives for me was Locky showing a bit of form, Tomkins improving and out outside backs, but again you have to put it in context of the terrible Hull display.

| Doing us a disservice there Jonh I think. We've been dire most of this season but that was much better and I actually thought Hull threw plenty at us especially in the first half. The desire in defence was much improved and there was far more vigour carrying the ball round the middle.
Gellings return to form was great, Bowen continued to pay back his Saints performance, Bateman, Williams, Joel and Lockers were excellent I thought but the biggest plus point above all was Ben Flower. He had his best game of the year running with purpose and throwing himself in to tackles like the old Ben Flower.
We can still improve in many areas but that was much better.

| If you thought they threw it at us in the first half you were watching a different game to me.
Seriously thought they were pathetic in the first 40, they had a dig at the start of the second and towards the end other than that they were terrible.

But he did that the other week against Salford and it was a complete mess and didn't work, swapping half backs round mid game and moving people between 2 or 3 different positions. I'm not Powell's biggest fan but he does a job in games like tonight and means we can spell McIlorum. I'd be happy if we go with McIlorum playing the full 80 against Saints, Wire and Leeds with Powell getting half an hour against the others.
Williams and Smith did a lot better tonight, mostly due to a woeful Hull performance but also down to a much improved performance from the pack. Not the sort of game to judge them on because it was too easy but all of the props at least showed some willingness to roll their sleeves up and get through some work - struggling to see Mossop getting back in now tbh. They need to show they can do it against the top sides who actually put up some resistance now.
The faux hysteria because Hampshire wasn't selected tonight is a bit OTT. FWIW I would've played him at 6 tonight but in all honesty this stage of the season isn't the time to be experimenting with different combinations. If there's one criticism of how Wane has dealt with Hampshire it's that he should've had more game time at 6 earlier in the season, but even then he's played 15 times this year, which isn't bad for a 20 year old whether it's in his "preferred" position or not. It's also worth remembering that Hampshire was only in last week because Bowen was rested, not dropped, and was in great form prior to that.

| Hull were bad, but thought we played a big part in completely stifling them. Some great defence.
We usually start the season well for the first half, then drop off for the second, before picking it back up for the playoffs. Looks like we might well be about to pick it up again.

I thought they did. They had us troubled a few times down our right side with Minichello causing us problems along with Talanoa and Sneyd nearly broke us in the middle a few times. I thought second half a bit if over playing from Wigan got them some field position but I felt in little danger.
Either way and not taking in to account the Hull display I thought we were better then 'average' as you described. We've been 'average' for months but that was a far more rounded display then many we've put in this year.

| Powell needed a full 80 this week just for the game time. Hampshire really needed some game time but then again I do not expect to see him again in a Wigan shirt as next season he really needs to be playing the majority of games. I cannot understand those fans who have dismissed him because they have seen him get 20 minutes behind a defeated pack.

I think we have been garbage for a good few weeks, tonight we improved without doubt but at best we we average. A Madge team would have put 60 or 70 on that shower.

| I personally was very happy with that. Much improved, much more solid (a 15 minute spell in the 2nd half aside). Hull were poor but we did OK there and its a good step forward, particularly in relation to previous away performances.

I think we'd have put 60 on them had we eased off on the knock-ons and forward passes that gifted them so much undeserved possession and territory. A better all-round show from Wigan, but individually we are still putting in some inept performances. Really amateurish stuff, a lot of those errors.

| Play poorly and it's all Wane's fault. Play well and it's only because the opposition were poor. Some people need to let the vendetta against the coach go. It's embarrassing. As for a Madge team scoring 60 or 70, he had a squad with a lot more talent than this one. I am not sure how much more he could get from them. I remember the end to the 2011 season. Getting hammered by Saints twice and going out without a whimper.

| I thought we were much better too. Improved effort from the pack, Williams and Smith went OK (Smith even running the ball at least once, to good effect!), and our outside backs again looked an attacking threat. Our two "centres who aren't centres" both had excellent games, I thought.
Downside was still way too many penalties conceded. Like that stupid one in the first half for pushing an opponent over the sideline after the tackle was complete. Just no need to do that. And even though he had an improved showing last night, it seems to me that Powell has at least one penalty in him every time he steps onto the pitch.

| Think you are being a bit harsh, we weren't great but a lot of that was down to your intensity in attack and defence. Very clinical in attack and aggressive in defence, you played the ball so much quicker than us.
Thought your forwards bullied ours (which hasn't happened much this year) and you had too much speed and skill out wide.
Gelling was great and your halfs intelligent as they played in wide early to identify our weakness out wide.
I seem some if your away performances thus year and you have been really poor, unfortunately last night wasn't one if them.

I think that's a fair assessment.
There was an improvement over previous weeks, some individuals stepped up (Joel, Lockers). But people who are happy with the result should remember Hull split us a few times and the scoreline might have looked different if not for a couple of forward passes.

That seems a fair assessment, it definitely was one of our better away performances this year.
Just out of interest, why wasn't Shaul playing at fullback for you last night? I thought he was pretty impressive whenever I saw him last year.

| Whilst it wasn't a complete perfect performance, I was very, very happy on the way home from Hull last night. Without doubt, it's a step in the right direction regarding our performances on the road in 2015. Hull have made the second most metres in the league this year and I think our pack finally stood up away from home and gave us the intensity in defence we've been missing. Attacking wise I thought we were more clinical, and some decent moves in there as well, such as Bowen's first. And I still cannot believe the amount of criticism George Williams receives from some. He's 20 years old, playing in a pivotal position in a team chasing trophies, I think he doesn't deserve half the stuff he gets thrown at him. Think him and Smith are forming a solid partnership now.
Yes, I know it's only one game, and I'm not getting carried away as I know how we've been away from home all year, but is it just me that wouldn't be surprised to suddenly see us turn it on away from home in the Super 8's? Still think we're a year or two short from a great team.

| Agreed. Williams is fine, and Smith has looked a lot more like his old self in the last couple of matches.
Discipline, though; there's plenty of room for improvement there. I kept thinking how a better side than Hull would punish us for all those penalties we conceded, many of them quite needlessly.

| I thought Hampshire at least deserved a bench spot last night after his performance v Widnes.
Onto the game itself, Wigan played well and at a high tempo, credit to the referee, against a Hull team that was poor on the night. However, you can only play what's in front of you. A few poor (forward) passes let us down a little but the rugby was entertaining at least. Win the home games and a minimum top 4 place is assured.

| Just on Powell's try: I've watched it umpteen times now, and listened to commentary on Sky and the Beeb, but surely he was a mile offside. Cummins came out with some guff about the first kick being "a kick into space" (whatever that means), but, at the end of the day, he was in front of the kicker at the first kick. Surely, notwithstanding that there was a second kick, he can't be played onside. Can he? I was amazed when the VR passed it.
What did you guys think?
