Well its interesting as 2 of the coaches i used to work with are now both at Hull and they stated that he had 3 offers on the table, all from Yorkshire based clubs, he chose Hull because he felt there was more chance of success with them.

| Now Saints have offloaded Long they will be after a quality scrum half.
No doubt Potter will use all his influence to bring Dobson to Stains
Saints will use all their powers and financial know how to give him the best deal in SL. I doubt very much if any club would be able to match Saints buying power for an overseas player.
If he goes to Saints then that will be a very good signing for them.

Wheeler is as you say playing out of position, he is a natural 6, but so was Gidley until a young lad called Kimmorley turned up so he could be a long term centre. We also still have Smith under contract so next year him and eastmond could compete for No7 jersey. With Roby and Wilkin also able to do a job at 7 if needed, we have enough cover.

| Quote ="cadoo"But the question has to be asked lets say we get Matt Orford - where does he fit into the squad?
Riddell is here for three years and Leuluai has had an extension. Michael McIlorum and Sam Tomkins you would hope wont be going anywhere so someone will have to be dropped every week. One of either Tomkins, Leuluai, McIlorum or Riddell because you wouldn't sign a player to then immediantly drop him would you?
One of those players will have to leave and I get the awful feeling it will be McIlorum.'"
Easy to say in hindsight but the signing of Riddell was a disaster. Not because he hasn't hit top form yet but because we already had a potentially lethal hooker partnership is Leuluai and McIlorum.
For Noble not to have realised Leuluai is most suited at hooker in 2 years when Wayne Bennett spotted it in a matter of weeks has been catastrophic to our chances of having a balanced squad.
As you say, we have Riddell, Leuluai, Tomkins and McIlorum already at the club, and we need a 6/7 to come in still. If Riddell's form does not improve, and he is still being consistently outplayed by McIlorum, then I firmly believe he is the one who has to be dropped. We couldn't justify letting McIlorum go if he is out playing an experienced Aussie. That said, I expect Riddell to improve as he settles and as the weather picks up, so decisions will need to be made.
The other area of recruitment where I think the club messed up massively last season was keeping on Phelps and then signing Roberts. It had to be one or the other. And as we've got Robert's services long term, I feel we'll have to let Phelps go at the end of the season regardless of how good he has been because we cannot afford to have two quota spots taken up when most likely they won't both be involved in first team rugby next season.

| When i've watched Brent Kite i just get the feeling he'd get battered over here. I reckon people would target him and with him having a very upright running style i believe he'd take his fair share of hammerings.
I'd rather have somebody like Luke Bailey who is far more compact.

I thought the same.
Personally, I think Nathan Cayless would do well.
Also, I watched Fui Fui Moi Moi at the weekend. Fantastic player but I think with Feka in the squad it would have to be one or the other.

I think we could carry both Feka and Moi Moi rotating them throughout the game so the opposition does not get a break from the devastating runners, defence may be an issue but i think Moi Moi is more solid in this department than Feka who does have a weakness with mobility.
Cayless would go very well i agree, no nonsense forward great leader.
Regards Kite i cannot agree. If he does not get smashed about in the NRL by far more defence orientated and technically superior teams then i cannot see it over here. He does run upright but he is a very big unit and much in the way Perto does when he takes a tackle he gets his upper body forward over the impact on the opponents shoulder which means he generally finishes up on his front and winning the collision.
I had the same fears when we were linked with Petro and how wrong was, i never really appreciated just how players like them use there body to dominate the impact. They are technically so superior to us I do not think he would have any problem making the yards and generating the quick PTB's that we sometimes lack.

| We know Saints are cashed up.
They've never had any financial difficulties, ever, we all know that!
They only have to circumvent or cheat the salary cap of £1.65m
That they have done more successfully than another club in the SL era.
Hence they have won more in the SL era.
Dobson to Stains. BTW why didn't Pryce go to Union some months ago when the offer for him came in? Still reckon Stains will offload.
Long term Stains will go for Wheeler at 6, Dobson 7, Eastmond 1.
An awful lot less expensive than Pryce, Long & Wellens I'll bet!

Interesting signing for them.
I don't know too much about him bar that he had a great season for Manly last year.
I hope we'll start making a move or 2 before long. We've been the last club to make signings for the past 2 off seasons and have been left with the scraps.
We can't afford for that to be the case again although to be fair we've not really missed out on anybody we'd desperatley want just yet.

Bailey wants a new deal-
www.wigantoday.net/warriors/Bail ... 5324318.jp
He sounds like a guy thats desperate to stay.
He does a good job for the team and he's an experienced head but you just feel we need to get the likes of Mossop a chance in the first team.
Baileys cap space to go on a prop forward imo.

I would take him with a substantial pay cut to the wage he is currently allegedly on.

| I have no problems with Bailey's efforts or solid performances
But we're not short of second rows, and as has been said we can use his wages on a prop.

We have to move the careers on of Mossop/Farrell/Flanagan etc and by re-signing Bailey that would old them back.

a real team player. always gives %100 and from what i am lead to belive he takes not poop from anyone in the squad, a real tough fella.
we do have a plethora of 2nd rowers at the moment, not to mention the overseas spot he takes up.
i would like to see Mossop get a run next year, i would also like to see (when O'carroll is fit) Prescott given a game or two in the 2nd row, for me he just aint got the size to domminate in the props. he has a bit of pace so i feel he would be more suited to this position. give a few years he could bulk up more and when his body is more battle hardened he could move back up. but for now i think he is a back rower.

Yeah but lets not forget Bailey can cover centre. He could prove a good utility player should the above players not come through as they should. As I said though on a much much smaller wage.
To put another slant on it I heard from a good source that Farrell is not happy and is considering a move away from the club due to lack of first team opportunities. He was not happy with the fact Hansen dropped down did not impress at reserve level and then got called striaght back into the first team at next available opportunity.
The club need to sort this out if it is true.

Farrell is a guy who i really want to see in the first team before long.
When i've seen him in the reserves he's been superb and looks a real handful and seems to have a great attitude.
If Bailey does stay i'd be willing to allow Hansen to move on either on loan or fulltime if needs be.

| Getting a deja vu to last year right at the moment.
Lots of clubs announcing major signings whilst Wigan fans waited and waited with no news. As it turned out we didn't get the players we wanted.
This isn't really a knock at Lenagan, he did deliver with the Gleeson signing - I just hope he can deliver the goods for 2010.
This is around the time when you expect signings to be announced - this myth that Wigan wait till the end of the year isn't really true, it simply means that usually Wigan have missed out on the top off-contract players and are bringing in the dregs from the bottom of the barrell.
Oh and Bailey should leave without question. Great guy, great attitude but simply not worth his place.
