| I honestly believe we've signed Hoffman. I’m not sure about either Finch or Lima but Hoffman on a two year deal sounds spot on imo.
I think we’ll be waiting a lot longer for official confirmation from IL as he moves to the beat of his own drum and is never rushed by anything (look at how long it took him to announce Madge or confirm Amos had signed)
I’d much prefer him to just announce the signings he’s made much in the same way Wire did with Hodgson. That hasn’t ruined their teams moral/performances and if anything it’s benefited them as Mathers had to step his game up to get a deal elsewhere. This speculation is far worse.

It appears that you're missing the point that simply applying the same logic to your own squad list - of which he's done a partial list, with your values, would apparently make yourselves massively over the cap.
At the end of the day, it's a completely stupid argument as each team's declared first tier liability MUST be within the £1.6 million for their contracts to be registered. The only people who know a player's wages for sure are their Club, the Player, the Taxman, the RFL.
Seriously why do you even care? What is it about some Wigan fans on a Wigan board being optimistic and excited about potential signings (whether they are realistic or not, whether they happen or not) that makes you feel a prolonged need to explain how we can't possibly afford them (and to be honest by your maths we wouldn't be able to afford the current tier 1 liability within the cap, so is there a hidden dig going on?)

now I don't want to get into a pi$$in contest mate, but again be realistic. Delaney is/was a young defensive centre from the nrl. Solid whilst been unspectacular. Whilst he has one city rep cap he was not an origin player or anywhere near it, pulling on the green and gold was even further away. the top players at Leeds(sinfield, webb, buderus, peacock) will be on between 130 and 175k probably around 150 mark. unlike andy from leeds I think you don't need the balance sheet to have an idea about what players earn. Brett delaney will have been in the bottom tear of the pay scale at the titans. at Leeds whilst he will not be in the bottom tear of gh's pay scale it will be nowt like 150 grand. If he was a current origin/test star or nrl Starting half back then I would think you were nearer the mark.

I assure you I'm not mate. Leeds have the squad they have and it's within the cap. I just think Wigan adding 2 current origin/test stars with a current kiwi test player and an nrl starting half back is a bit unrealistic. Even with the outgoing players and reduced terms of fielden.
I'm not saying it's not gonna happen I just can't see it.
no doubt Wigan will be even better next season with a few of those players. Good times ahead for you pies

| Let's not get all hot under the collar about whether we'll make signings that will take us over the salary cap. It's not going to happen with Lenegan in charge. We'll sign who we can afford and no more.

Some people have been trying to point out though that we're not simply looking to add some players to an existing roster. There are plenty of players who's contract expires at the end of this season, some of which are not likely to be retained, others of which you'd imagine the club will be looking to renegotiate more favourable contracts.
Every man and his dog has been trying to tell us for years that Fielden for example is on massive money - people have mentioned 250k+, his current contract is due to expire. Feka is reportedly on tasty money, his contract is due to expire, and it's looking likely he'll be released. Phil Bailey's contract is due to expire, again a probable release. Riddell is leaving at the end of the season on compassionate grounds. Phelp's contract is due to expire, again a probable release.
If you accept that we're currently within the cap, and we've got a bunch of players who are either leaving or likely to be retained on far less money if they are retained, how is it so hard to see that we can afford some signings?
I think it's very unlikely that we'll sign all of Hoffman, Finch, Lima, White, Quinn, any other names we're linked with - for as much reason as not needing them all. I do however fully expect that'll we'll make a few top quality signings, and the way the cap operates, we will have to have the space for them to be registered by the RFL next season.

The person just did what you did with our squad list, the figures you gave were BS.
i don't see why it should concern you so much, fans are just gettign exiting at the prospect of having some great new players possibly coming over.

Suppose that Fuart Stielden is on £250K, Paleta Iafea'aesina is on £150K, Bil Phailey is on £100K, Riggy Piddell is on £80K and Phameron Celps is on £50K that's £630K, a lot of availability.
Pure conjecture of course.

Not far out I'd imagine (although swap Piddell and Phailey).
Problem now is current exchange rates. Quinn's contract at Melbourne is reportedly Aus$300,000 per year. This equates to about £175k per year.
You get a lot less NRL player for your £ than you did three years ago.

www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... 10b4a.html
Wigan coach Michael Maguire has played down reports linking the Super League leaders with moves for Melbourne forwards Jeff Lima and Ryan Hoffman.
Maguire, a former Storm assistant coach, knows the pair well but on Wednesday had little comment to make on suggestions they could join him at the DW Stadium next year. ''At the moment I am looking at everyone available and we haven't made any moves,'' he said.

I think it was a deliberate attempt to avoid anything libellous, discussing some purely fictional SL players. Check out the rest of the names.

I agree. You don't need a balance sheet when you pluck figures out of thin air, based on nothing but your own need to convince yourself Wigan can't strengthen for next season.
Having done the same myself we've got enough cap space next season to sign four Melbourne players, not three. They are:
Cameron Smith
Greg Inglis
Billy Slater
Cooper Cronk

I think it's a case of watch this space. See tomorrow's Oz papers like:-
www.couriermail.com.au/sport/nrl ... 5891808340
Nothing settled yet. But exchange rates could muck things up for us. Storm have obviously been very, very naughty.
