| Quote ="Vicki_g"Whilst sitting here trying to appease my boss by pretending to be working, I've had a look at the ever-terrible Wigan Today website and in particular their poll on who readers will vote for in the election. The results are:
16% Labour
9% Conservative
4% Lib Dem
31% BNP
40% Other
The only 'other' candidate in the constituency is the UKIP candidate and I doubt he'll be winning the seat so suspect people are just a bit...confused...there.
But can it really be true that 31% of Wiganers who have bothered to take the admittedly pointless poll on the admittedly terrible website really plan to vote for the BNP? What the hell is wrong with this town?! Going off this poll, it is entirely possible that we could end up with a BNP MP. I feel a bit sick.'"
Proof that a large number of the Wigan townsfolk are either totally ignorant or thick as pig. Or more likely, both ![Confused icon_confused.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_confused.gif)

| Lib dems? Seems like people are voting for him because he comes across well, it's not the x factor.
From what I gather the Lib Dems will scrap the Trident Nuclear deterent and the eurofighter, why don't we just pull our pants down and wait for China, Russia, Iran, North Korea etc to come and do us over.
Scrap the pound and join the euro, big mistake as wouldn't we not be able to set our own interest rates? just look at Greece, Spain and Portugal all up shi'ite creek because of this.
For me it has to be UKIP.
Not Labour as Peter Mandelson will end up selling the air we breath and then tax us one the air remaining
Not lib Dem - See above
Not Tory - Would never vote Tory
BNP - Don't make me laugh

Don't know about anyone else's but here are mine:
Out of Europe: Yep
Keep the pound: yep
Keep Grammar schools & build more: yep
scrap OFSTED: yep
support nuclear energy: yep
More council houses: yep
"no home, no visa" for immigrants: yep
oppose ID cards: yep
raise income tax threshold: yep
end multiculturalism: yep
freeze permanent immigration: yep
more beat policing: yep
no NHS cuts: yep
There are some policies I disagree with, admittedly, but there are far more that I agree with.

Under labour we have sold the family silver and also our gold reserves at a low price and not long after gold prices shoot through the roof losing 2 billion in doing so.
I don't want to join the euro, scrap the eurofighter or trident nuclear deterent either.

Wouldn't vote Tory ever after what happened last time.
If it were a local election I would vote Labour as they have done a great job in Haydock (new Tesco creating loads of jobs, refurbishing the local youth club, gates in between allways to stop antisocial behaviour, the bypass to cut down on traffic on West End Road) but it's a general election and I like the sound of UKIP.'"
You have read through [iall[/i the manifestos?
The problem with UKIP, as has been pointed out by many political analysists, is that they have no way of funding their plans. They would have to borrow from left, right and centre to get anywhere near the budget they'd require to fulfil their manifesto. Maybe I'm wrong, but the last thing we need at the moment is to be asking the IMF for handouts. For those in doubt I direct you to Greece.
Greece is royally knackered, but in my opinion it isn't the biggest problem - it's the rest of the Mediterranean economies. Then there's us, Britain, which has a similar problem with its public debt, and will have to implement heavy economical measures as well.
Yes a plan has been put forward to 'rescue' Greece but this now has to be voted upon by both cabinets and Parliaments in several nations, Germany included.
Some will have to sell more debt to fund this and they're already up the swanny.
Oh, and this does nothing about Spain and Portugal, which are next, while the cash pile that can be assembled for these sorts of things is already being raided. So by the time someone like UKIP got in and started to put their plans into practice there probably won't be much of the pie left for anyone wanting a bit extra.

| I wouldn't be that bothered if Labour stayed in or the Tories got in but I won't be voting for them, I would be gutted if the Lib Dems got in as they would want us to join the euro.
If we did our interest rates wouldn't be set by the Bank of Englands monetary policy comitee they would be set by the EU so we wouldn't have control. That's why Greece, Spain and Portugal are all up shi'ite creek now as their interest rates are set the same a France and Germanys and they can't keep up with them. Whereas the Bank of England have slashes interest rates down to 0.5% to get us spending and buying houses etc we wouldn't be able to do that if we were in the euro and the lib dems want us to join the euro so just for that reason alone, I'm out.
I know what you mean about funding the said policies as Nigel Farage was on Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 ![Embarassed icon_surprised.gifops:](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_redface.gif) and was questioned on this. He said he would create 1 million manufacturing jobs by cutting out the 'quangos' but it would taker a good few years to do so.
Some of their policies are good, some aren't but the same can be said about all the parties, even the Tories manifesto isn't so bad but I couldn't bring myself to vote for them.

They propose to fund it with huge cuts in public sector spending reducing spending levels to those of 1997. They reckon they would get rid of 2 million public sector workers. This on top of the obvious leaving the EU and scrapping a lot of quangos. Maybe not popular but at least they're being honest unlike the main three parties.
I'm voting UKIP this time at the general election (not that it makes a difference here as Labour have held Wigan since 191icon_cool.gif. I used to vote Tory but Cameron isn't one. I'll also be voting for the Independent Conservative Gareth Fairhurst in the local election as I feel he has done a good job in making the voices of Wigan central heard.

| How much would making two million under contract public sector workers redundant cost?
How would leaving the EU raise funds? How much money do we receive annually from 'Brussels'?

Last year we made a net contribution to the EU of just over £6 billion (would have been less if Blair didn't give our rebate away). Not much given the size of the debt but it's a start.
The manifesto doesn't specify how much money we would save making so many people redundant but it doesn't take a great mathmetician to calculate it would be billions even taking into account the cost of making them redundant and in a worst case scenario they all ended up claiming benefits. Better to pay someone unemployment benefit than an annual salary of say £20k for a job that isn't required.

You'd be staggered how much redundancies actually cost, and you're neglecting the massive knock on effect to the overall economy of 2 MILLION additional people on benefits, no tax income, no spending power........
We quite simply could not as a nation either afford the cost of the initial spend (redundancy payouts etc) or the effect on the economy (it would kill it stone dead). The headline grabbers of 'but we'll create 1 million manufacturing jobs' are quite simply hot air imo, as companies like mine will STILL do all their manufacturing overseas.
