| Didn't seem that bad from what I saw on the big screen - will look at the recording tomorrow for a better look. I always listen to radio commentary at the game and GMR's commentary team were convinced that Child had lost the plot and that it deserved a yellow at worst. Did anyone else listen to GMR at the end of the game - I was talking to the bloke next to me so missed what was being said but apparently they must have spoken to Finchy as he came off the pitch and wondered what he said cos all I heard was Jack Dearden saying 'well he doesn't care as he's going back to Australia' sounded like Finchy wasn;t too happy about Micky Mac being sent off though

This. Really hard to comment when you haven't seen it back.
Based on what I saw at the game; it seemed like a late swinging arm that didn't really connect but was aimed high. Red though? It felt like a sin bin would have been enough.

But simply it wasn't.
It was no worse than Perrys forearm to Lima on the floor.
It ruined the game simple as that. £40 + quid down the drain AGAIN due to the man in the middle

| Quote ="sergeant pepper"It's a late shot in a derby game! I'm sick to death of the over sanitisation of RL. Everyone talks and raves about State of Origin and how it's the pinnacle of our game but the second anyone shows anything remotely physical there's an out cry over it.
Child was shocking tonight and the ovation he got at the end shows I'm not alone in thinking that. He had a very poor judgment when it came to game changing moments like a few forward passes or piggy backing Saints up the pitch.'"
Oh yeah, even disregarding the big decision he was very very poor, don't know how anyone can praise him.
Virtually every tackle was offside (both Wigan and Saints) and he only gave about one penalty for it all game (excluding the one for not square).

It could have ruined someones season or career, we can't allow shots like that to go unpunished mate.
Perry did fall on With arm but did pull out and it was a pen. If you send perry off for that then players will go every week.
Just take it in the chin, it was a sending off without a doubt.

| I not sure if it was him who decided to red card him or not but he got what he deserved. He let all our team down and possibly cost us the match.
He was lucky only a few tackles earlier when he flew out the line and missed with a swinging arm.
Over the last few weeks he has become a liability with his stupid antics and maybe a few weeks on the sidelines will give him time to rethink.
The rest of the team tried their best to cover for a down but it was going to work. You could on several occassions where a man short was obvious in attack.
It may work in our favour in the playoffs as we can move Tommy to hooker.

| He went in to hit him hard and ended up being a slight bit late. The initial contact wasnt with the head so it was a sin bin at most imo.
Another point is that it wouldnt of even been a penalty if the game wasnt televised. Only with Ganson chirping to Child and all the slo mo making it look worse has it resulted in a red card imo.

I'm happy the head coach of WRLFC agrees with me and isn't a soft ar$e like you.
Perry was just as bad but strange how when its a Saints player it suddenly becomes part of the game?
RL needs to seriously evaluate the direction it's heading in.

| Absolutely no doubt it was a red.
Child is a waste of space, and constantly gets decisions wrong to a baffling level of sheer stupidity, but he was right to send him off.

| Whilst I do believe that RL has been over sanitised over the last couple of years, if we look at an other decision this year, it follows logic.
Chris Hill was yellowed for a tackle that was late, not massively but late. At this time loads on RL fans said any late challenge on a kicker that gets pulled up is an auto yellow. I'm not sure of the wording of the rules but I took this as true.
Futher to this, we've had two shoulder charges red carded due to contact to the head. Something I also dont agree with.
With this in mind, Mickey Mac was late, was high, and meant what he did with a clear swing in his arm. If it was me making the decision a yellow, however, lesser fouls have been punnished with yellows and above, so I think the decision is consistent with how the game has been reffed this year.
Maybe not the way I would ref the game, but the sport is trying to rule this stuff out.
And in case it gets raised, the way I like the game wouldn't have seen Wood go in the CC final, but by the rules he should have at least taken a 10 minute break

| Quote ="Geoff"Haven't seen the TV coverage yet, but from the big screen it only looked marginally late, and first contact to the shoulder. From the timing, I suspect it was a Ganson decision, though, not a Child one.'"
That is how it looked at the ground and watching back on the big screen. I was sat there thinking it would probably go on report but he'd probably be OK given the replay.
I was shocked when the red card came out.
Whether it was worthy of a sending off or not I doubt he would have walked without Gansons intervention.
What is certainly true is whether he was guilty or not it ruined the game. I had a hell of journey from Chester (just got back) and regardless of the result I basically did that for 16 minutes of a contest. The fact we stuck it to Saints despite the inevitability of the result was pleasing but when he went I was sat there thinking, great, a round trip like that for this to happen! What is more it looked to shaping up to be a real cracker of a game and that just changed the complexion of it completely.

| Wane and some |Wigan fans on here are embarrassing themselves.
It was high and late but the worst thing from my point of view was that it was done to a player who was facing away so could do nothing to protect himself. Mc Ilorum is lucky he did not cause a serious injury.
Absolutely the right decison by Ganson !

Embarrassing reaction, and every Wigan fan I talk to on twitter agrees with me.
How anyone can say that wasn't a sending off clearly needs to sleep on it and watch it again in the morning: clear red card.
Perry was lucky to stay on I have to admit.

If Radlinski reckons it was wrong, it was wrong. I haven't seen it back myself yet having been not long back but that is one man's opinion I respect compared to Ganson's.
The funny thing about sending offs generally though is most are technically correct but those doing all the moralising and sitting themselves on a pedestal of virtue know full well there is a huge level of inconsistency about decisions. And of course they always agree with every sending off of one of their own players
There was at least one incident in the game tonight more dangerous than what MM did. If people are so convinced MM was a red, why isn't the focus on the fact they were let go?

You can have your opinion, but it's definitely not a cut and dry thing just because people don't see it your way. The guys on the radio were saying it was a yellow at most, so it's not just Wigan fans.

The man is a legend. Ganson isn't.
There is another who thought it was wrong and that is Lockers - I am pretty sure it was him. When the red came out Finch had to restrain him from going over to Child when he looked like he would deck him. Given Lockers normally doesn't say boo to a goose I was quite surprised.

Phil Clarke said it was a red card, so it MUST have been
In all honesty though the majority (on here and twitter) seem to be saying it was the correct decision.

| One of the clearest reds I've seen for a while. A high, late swinging arm, caught Laffranchi right in the mush. I'm unsure where the argument is to be fair, and it's all coming from people who were at the game. Obviously didn't get a good enough view of the screen.
